Thanks retro! I have quickly learned that molds are big money and there is not really a “cheap” way to do it if you want to produce a large volume of items.
My plans is to get the 3D modeling and design complete and patented. After that I will do a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the cost of the mold to start production.
The Kickstarter will also allow me to gauge the market to see how much interest there is. If it doesn’t work out it will be much cheaper to walk away from instead of going all in with production.
06/07/2017 at 9:29 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 313: What’s your Backup Plan to eBay? #19126Good idea Linda! I have reached out to one in my area a few weeks ago because the quotes I’m getting to make a mold is like $60k it’s crazy! I understand there is work involved in making this but it seems extremely expensive for a piece of steel that is 12x18in.
06/06/2017 at 6:45 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 313: What’s your Backup Plan to eBay? #19097I have a multi layered back up plan!
My main plan being I can always find a steady job in my field of finance where I work full time now. Although I hope that becomes my last resort one day.
Ebay is my back up plan with a little over 10K listings along with my comc store with 13k listings and amazon with around 1k listings. I make enough to pay all my bills and not touch my regular paycheck.
My back up plan to my back up plan is using some of the money I am making on ebay to develop a product I think will be useful to collector’s and hobbyist. All in all I am going to end up investing around $60K into it which is a lot of money but I think it will pay off and if it does that will become my main source of income. I would like to discuss it further but can’t really until I get the patent finalized.
Lastly if there are any trash elves that know how to make steel molds hit me up because those things are expensive! The steel mold in the context of being used for plastic injection to make a product.
06/01/2017 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 312: Is eBay Removing Old listings? #18876What should I price this at? I put an obnoxiously high price on it or maybe I underpriced it? No idea I can’t really find a lot on it.
Here is the eBay listing

02/25/2017 at 1:23 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13295I did a little but didn’t have a lot of luck. This is actually the 4th time I have sold it. It’s cursed so I just wanted to get rid of it. I sold it once and the person sent it back to me because it didn’t work but I got them to pay for shipping and I clearly say it’s damaged etc. The other two times were non payers one of which was a guy with the last name Singer from NYC. After I got the offer this time the person said they would pay asap so I said get it out of here.
02/24/2017 at 10:51 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 298: The Scavengers and The Collectors, A Love Story #13274I am a borderline collector. I do love baseball cards but I am always willing to sell them for the right price. Some I will price for a I don’t want to sell it price and if it sells I am usually pretty happy with the price. I am not sure if that would classify me as a collector if I am always willing to sell the item. I do not some collector’s that are hard core and won’t part with anything. Those guys are the crazy people that you find all the deals at the estate sales most of whom are probably rolling in their graves.
I am slowly moving all my collection to a warehouse and site the lists them all for me on their site, ebay, and amazon. Now I just need to find a good site that will do that for all my other stuff!
