Follow-up … Just talked to eBay this morning. Item cancelled, no problem. They didn’t say anything about a black mark on my account and I didn’ t ask, so I think I dodged a bullet.
I just selected refund buyer but now I can’t cancel the sale. I guess I’ll call eBay tomorrow. I think the system still expects me to ship it.
Just checked my payouts. It just went through. I guess their IT guys fixed it.
Thanks for the feedback. I talked to a clerk a the local post office and she said you cannot just cover up the “Flat Rate” references on a box and use it for priority mail. She said you are not allowed to use a “Flat Rate” Box for anything but the flat rate.
Does anybody have a good system for making their own boxes to fit specific items? It would be neat if I could just get bulk cardboard and use specialized tools to form a custom box. Lately sales have been good so my box supply is depleted and I hate to pay for boxes.
Thanks @pikapopblog for all the excellent advice and tips. Very helpful.
I’m all signed up with Poshmark, Etsy, and Mecari (and eBay and Craigslist, of course). Now I have to figure out what types of items match up best with which platform. I don’t think I’m interested in doing Amazon right now. That seems like a whole different level.
Thanks for the help.
For example, I noticed this when I looked up Eddie Bauer shirts. I have a few of these and I wanted to see the lowest price they were sold for. The lowest priced sale was for $2.69 with free shipping. Even sending something locally with USPS First Class is a few dollars. Many others were sold for under $10 with free shipping. They couldn’t make any money on that. If you’re just trying to get rid of stuff and not really make money, wouldn’t it be a lot easier to just donate it?
Don’t they cost a fortune to ship?
Good point.
And why doesn’t eBay sell bubble wrap?
I never thought of reselling stuff. eBay must know about that and they don’t care I guess.
I had this question and figured this would be a good place to bring it up instead of starting a new thread. How do you use your quarterly coupon when you don’t really need any supplies. What’s a good thing to stock up on even when you don’t need it right now? I’ve got plenty of packing tape, bubble wrap, poly bags (2 sizes), 6 by 9 air mailers etc. Is there some shipping supply you wish had gotten more of ahead of time?
Agreed. I’m sure eBay has lots of data that shows promoting items is worth it. I hadn’t thought of the back to school lull, but that makes sense.
Yes, I started last November. I found the Scavenger Life podcast and learned a lot, including the need for lots of items in the store to help increase sales. I went from listing stuff around the house to scavenging at thrift stores and on Craigslist. I went from a free store to basis subscription to premium in a few months.
