Money Spent on New Inventory: $ 47Gut Sales Report for the week: Felt like I had a lot of sales (and there were for my store), however I had a very low ASP. But, for this time of year and my lack of listing, this was a good week.
Challenge of the week: One of my vintage trophies that I listed last week sold for $50. That felt good because I was assuming very long tail on those.
Strategy of the week\month: Rummage sale season is here. I usually find good items at these sales.
One of those Guys: I am one of those guys with a full time job, kids, and ebay on the side. Plus, both my girls are in competitive gymnastics. It is off to Kentucky this weekend for the Regional Championship.

Money Spent on New Inventory: $ 4Gut Sales Report for the week: Just an average week, which actually felt good after a few slow weeks in a row.
Challenge of the week: I got the vintage trophies listed this week. They are long tail, but will be good money when they sell.
Strategy of the week\month: Still looking to cut back on buying items and try to get the stereo equipment and some other items listed.

Someone had mounted a push mower on to the front of a bike so that you could ride the bike and mow the lawn! I thought that was genius. But it was super big and bulky and really rusted so I passed on it.

04/17/2019 at 1:47 pm in reply to: My ebay Income is about 50% less YOY from 2018 than expected #60411Actually, clothes are more like about 1\3 of my inventory once I back out shoes.
Of course since I have 25% more items, I will not automatically make 25% more. But in my forecast by month, I take the STR from the prior year\month and the ASP from the prior year\month and mulitple by the number of items I have. Of course there is going to be a degradation in STR and maybe ASP. I know T-Satt takes that STR degradation into account.
But my point is that my sales should not drop by 17% if I am basically doing the same thing and even better this year. Or, is this just normal? Thing is I have forecasted like this every year and this is the first year that the results for a long period of time actually degradated this much.
January 2018 vs. Jan 2019 had the biggest difference. The actual numbers were Jan 2018 $4514 and Jan 2019 $2646. So, I think that is the bulk of my difference. If Jan. 2019 were the same as Jan 2018, then my gross sales would have been roughly the same and I wouldn’t be posting this. So, I guess that is my take away that January 2019 sales were down and just live with that. Also, shy away from clothes and keep on keeping on.

04/17/2019 at 12:13 pm in reply to: My ebay Income is about 50% less YOY from 2018 than expected #60398I had about the same new listings during this timeframe for bith years. Maybe a Little more in 2019.
Jan is where I am seeing the biggest change. About $4300 I. Jan 2018 vs about $2500 in Jan 2019.
It is just discoursging when you are working harder and a Little starter, yet sales Go down.
My take away right now is staying away from clothes unless it is a very good Quality at a Great price.

I would think my sales would be at least a little more in 2019, but you have to take into account some degragation of STR. But even with that, it doesn’t explain why I actually went down so much. If it wasn’t that 50% I wouldn’t be so concerned. I knew my sales were down, but when I see the hard numbers and how far apart they are, it is concerning to me.
As I explained to simplicio, my items quality and picture quality from 2018 to 2019 dreastically improved. That is why I am perplexed here.
I think as you have explained, there are so many factors, it is hard to nail down the reason. ebay ebbs and flows with high times and low times. I guess if everyone was seeing a similar thing, then I wouldn’t be so concerned. But if I am way out of the ordinary at 50% then I would like to know why.
The one thing I can also point to is that I am heavily into clothes (maybe 50%) and those have not been selling great lately.

No big outliers in 2018, I actually had more in 2019.
My quality of items has been getting a LOT better and so has my pictures, that is why this is really hard to understand.

Do you know how many items you had listed at that time in 2018 versus 2019?

04/15/2019 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 406: Disposable Income, WTF is that? #60247JamesC,
I had said in another post that sometimes we have to change our tactics in finding items.
I think J&R are evolving their business in their own way in their own region. Each region is going to be a little different. I do go to garage sales and can find real quality items there. But I don’t think that works where J&R live. So, you have to do what works for you where you live and that does change over time. It may have worked for them at one time, but now it isn’t working.
Personally, I don’t like Goodwill one bit. I like a local independent thrift store that is working great for me. I also do well at garage sales, Estate Sales, and Rummage sales. Will that work for you where you live? Maybe. Maybe not. You just have to get out there and see what works for you. When it stops working, change it up and find what does work.
That is my two cents on the topic.

Total Items In Store: 2916
Items Sold: 10
Cost of Items Sold: $ 70
Total Sales: $ 706.00
Highest Price Sold: $ 400.00 (MCM Furniture)
Average Price Sold: $ 70.60
# Items Listed: 20
Money Spent on New Inventory: $ 160.00Gut Sales Report for the week: Another week of slow sales. The MCM Furniture sale saved me this week.
Challenge of the week: Another good thing was that I got a lot of my stereo equipment listed this week. One of them sold in 1 day to someone in Israel. It was under $30, but still.
Scavenge of the week: Now I know I had planned not to go to any estate sales, but this one was too enticing. I bought a bunch of large vintage trophies that will sell for some good money.
Strategy of the week\month: Still looking to cut back on buying items and concentrate on getting the stereo equipment and trophies listed.

Thanks Retro.
What does your 4″ foam look like? Could you post a picture of that?

Total Items In Store: 2897
Items Sold: 16 (15 ebay, 1 Bonanza)
Cost of Items Sold: $ 50
Total Sales: $ 543.00
Highest Price Sold: $ 100.00 (Boots)
Average Price Sold: $ 33.94
# Items Listed: 72
Money Spent on New Inventory: $ 20.67Gut Sales Report for the week: This was a frustrating week. Sales were very slow, had serveral returns, and three shipping issues (not my fault) with the carriers. At least Bonanza has been good lately.
Challenge of the week: I was proud of myself this week. I have been stashing away stereo equipment to test at a later date and then list. Well, here we are 5 years later and here I am doing it. So I have been setting up to test and started testing. Hopefully the stereo equipment will pay off here in the Spring and Summer.
Scavenge of the week: Stopped at my first garage sale of the season. I think these people were in a time warp from 1969. I got 3 ties all from around 1969. I also picked up a lot of travel brocheres all from right around 1969. Must have been a significant year for them. There is one brochere that I really liked (there are 2 of them): Schwinn takes a trip to Disneyland 1966. All of the latest Schwinn bikes from 1966 being shown off at Disneyland. It doesn’t get much cooler than that! I like the Schwinn Fastback String-Ray with the Banana seat. This was another scrat scavenge: I just saw the vintage travel maps and brocheres and bought the whole bag for $4. Turns out this brochere alone can go for some good money.
Strategy of the week\month: Looking at my forecast, I can see this is going to be a very lean month for sales (and I have already started to see that this week). So, I am putting a hold on buying except my local thrift store and garage sales when they finally open. The only other thing I can do is list my way through this and that is what I have been doing this week. I have at least 500 items all set to be listed, so I will have no shortage of items to list. I am going to focus on getting all of my stereo equipment listed and as many other items as I can during this “slow” time.

Sams Club’s regular price for these is either $7 or $8, I can’t remember which it is.
