I had this situation happen during the pandemic. I called ebay and told them that I shipped on time and that USPS was just slow. ebay said to refund the buyer, which I did. They said to ask the buyer to pay for the item when it arrived (which they didn’t). I called ebay back and ebay refunded my money and the buyer got to keep the item.

Here is my idea. I am plan to rent a 10′ X 30′ storage unit in the fall. These shelving units are 3 foot long. So, I should be able to put 10 of them on each side of the unit and 10 down the middle. That will leave 3 feet on each side. I will stack them 8 high on each shelving unit. I will have to have chair\stable ladder to get the containers up high. So, 240 containers in a 10′ X 30′ storage unit. If I can average 16.67 items per container, the storage unit will hold 4000 items.

The specs say 150 pounds per shelf – See photos below on the shelving unit and tough box. They do seem a little wobbly though if you put heavier containers too far up. I try to put the heavier containers toward the bottom.

Gut Sales Report for the week: Yes, another a very slow week. I am still focusing on where I am going instead of what sales currently are.

Focus for the week (and rest of the summer): Starting this week till the end of August, I am trying to get 100 items a week listed because my summer help goes back to school in September. I have been buying like crazy and buying containers to store all of the new mechandise.

Scavenge of the week: I found a 1960’s Marx Johnny West Thunderbolt Horse in the Original Box. The rest was just great bread & butter items.

Storage: A caller asked about storage. For me, the best storage solution I have found is the tough box ($8.48) and tough box shelving unit ($39.98) at Sams club. The shelving unit comes with 5 shelves, but the great thing about these is that you can build it as high or as short as you want. Also, these tough boxes are very strong. You can stack them 8 high by themselves and they will not cave in. For clothes, I like the double clothing rack. See my pictures below.

Scavenge of the week: With all this buying, I found some really good items. Got several $50+ shoes for under $5. Got a handmade Backgammon game for $10 that I think will sell for close to $300. Picked up a new
Croquet Set for $22 that I think will sell for $200. Also, I hit a mega sale that had some really good brands – Carhartt, Patagonia, Merrell, Keen, Cabella’s, etc. I picked up 67 items for $126.

Then, click “Bulk Actions” → “Listing Actions” → “Assign eBay account” to tell inkFrog that you’d like to associate the selected listings with a new eBay account. Select the listings to move, then use “Assign eBay account” to move them.

“Scavenging this week was dead” – It is sometimes like that for me also. There are times that you can’t find anything. Then, there are times that everywhere you look there is a huge great deal ready to be had.

This time of year in my area, garage sales are great from around Memorial Day till about Father’s Day. I have been loading up lately. And of course there are times when buying opportunities are dead.

Buying opportunities seem to come and go. I just keep out there and always “be buying” I just go to my favorite thrift store 1-4 times a week to catch the new items. I check out the estate sales for the best ones. In the end overall, there is always more supply than I need. I am sure most of us have had the same experience.

I had thought about doing this, but then didn’t do it. But now with your post and numbers, I think I may consider it again. Here are my questions for you:

1. What types of items are you listing on Etsy? What is about your average price?

2. Do you now if clothing is still doing well on Etsty?

3. How much time do you think it took to get Six Bit working and for you to understand how to cross list with it?

4. I also have old electronics, is that doing well? I have things like VCR’s, Stereo equipment, CD changers, etc.

5. What categories or types of items are you seeing that sell well on Etsy? My ebay store has a lot of the same type of items that you mentioned above. Would be nice to know which ones are good sellers on Etsy,

6. Any tips you can give for other people thinking of using Six Bit to start cross-listing to Etsy.

Your question is a hard one to answer without knowing the specifics.

I think you are asking how much should you pay someone to do your shipping while you are on the road. I think there are 2 main ways to do this:

1. Pay a set price per item, say $3 for each item shipped.

2. Pay by the hour.

The first option has some drawbacks if your inventory is very diverse. For example, one item may take 5 minutes to ship, another may take 30 minutes. The more similar your items are, the better that would work. Or, you could just say $3 an item, sometimes they don’t have much work to ship, other times they do. Then there is also the question of accessibility. How easily can they access your inventory (how far do they have to drive). Also, how easy\hard is it to get to your items once they are in your “Warehouse” area? Are you supplying all of the packing materials? Do you pay them to drive to the post office or will they do all USPS pickup? Or will they just do the same thing they do for their own items?

The second option has a major drawback. If you pay by the hour, you don’t know how fast they are going to work. Also, you can’t observe their speed because you will probably never see them packing your items.

For me, I would pick option 1. Set a per item price and you both take the easy with the hard.  Pay them 1099 as a contract worker. I would make your inventory as accessible as possible and easy to find items. I would also ask how they pack and see if their process meets your expectations.  Maybe do a trial run before you hit the road.

Hi ChristineR,

I live in Michigan.

I would say you would like to have:

1. Waterproof boots and\or shoes.

2. Warm jacket like a Columbia Ski Jacket. 3 in 1 Jackets are nice because you can take out the liner if it is not that cold.

3. Warm gloves – I prefer the black leather driving gloves with insulation.

4. If your ears get cold easily, then get a stocking hat or headband.

5. I would recommend long john underwear or fleece lined jeans.

6. Warm socks – wool or wool blend work well.

7. If they are going to be outside for an extended period of time, then you should consider

– a face mask

– Ski pants that go over your pants

– Ski gloves. Get the kind that go up far enough to cover the cuff of the jacket so that snow doesn’t creep in.

That should do it.

Does anyone know what happened with ghalys.com?

At the beginning of 2021 I bought  this bubble wrap and paid $17.72 – a great deal:

BUBBLE WRAP® 100 ft x 24″- Large Bubble 1/2″- perforated every 12″ Core included

Today I went to buy the exact same bubble wrap and now they want $25.90. What? That is not a deal.  I can get it for about the same price locally. Plus locally, they will divide it up into smaller pieces for me which is a great help. I think I am done with ghalys.com. Does anyone know of a supplier with a price for this bubble wrap closer to $17.72?
