If I ever sell something for eleven hundred dollars on ebay I will probably pass out. XD That’s an amazing sale on that preamp. Thanks for the clip of the falls at the end! I used to live in Vermillion and then later in Brookings. I always loved visiting the falls in Sioux Falls & going biking on the trails. Good times.
Moving into my third week of making What Sold videos – having fun doing it!

03/14/2019 at 10:14 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Restored record player, Hats, Mountain bike shoes, Fishing vest, Wall sconce, Trav L Bar #58662I always like picking up and selling the early Betty Crocker cookbooks. 🙂 Those Ray Bans are pretty sweet too! Thanks for the video!
Still really new at this, but here are a couple What Sold videos I made this week:

Number of items listed this week: 61 (at $998.63)Trying to get back in the habit of posting my numbers every week. 🙂 Also working on making youtube videos. Trying that out for the month. It has been keeping me on task (ironically?) so far.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the podcast yet… but I can only remember having one repeat buyer on ebay. Etsy is a different story however, I frequently have repeat buyers there. I feel like the Etsy experience is quite different for buyers compared to ebay and is more shop-centric.
Those are some amazing vintage electronics – what a great niche! Do you enjoy the repair part of it?
I tried my hand this week at making some What Sold videos – I’ve never done it before but thought it might be fun. I have learned a lot from the generosity of many other people who share what has sold for them online – I’m glad to try and give back a little or pay it forward.
(Is it ok if I post links?)

Number of items listed this week: 11 (at $192)I went to visit my parents the weekend of Feb 23-24 and a blizzard closed the I-35 highway and all other major roads to get home on Sunday and all day Monday. Couldn’t get home until Tuesday.
I haven’t posted my numbers here for about a year, but I’m still going. 🙂 January marked my third year of going full time. I say full time but honestly it is probably a part time thing – I take care of a lot of household things for our family. I still work at it to try and make it more successful every month though. I saw a downturn compared to last year starting in October of 2018 and have not quite recovered yet. This March I am setting a goal of listing $4K worth of inventory. My average last year was about $2.5K/month of inventory listed. Hopefully listing more = selling more!
I would really like to make enough money to pay off a car loan and a loan we took out to do some major work on our basement.
Posting a bit late.

Number of items listed this week: 27 (at $365)Well January 2018 has started out not so great, I got back from my holiday trip last Tuesday and have been sick since Wednesday. :/ I was so excited to get back from the trip and get back into listing on eBay and getting things rolling again. Instead this week has been filled with trying to recuperate from sickness, Dr. appointment, Dentist appointment, catching up on the usual house chores, and a snow day (= no childcare) so it has been very frustrating. I should look at things from a different perspective and say “hey, at least you can be flexible with your time and take care of yourself and your family.” But it is hard when on the flipside I want to make my business more successful and it always seems to be the lowest priority.

Number of items listed this week: 0Finally back from visiting family (yesterday), and glad to be home. I love visiting family and making good memories, but it also nice to be at my own home with my own bed and my own space.
Anyway, I am feeling quite an accomplishment at completing my first year as a full time reseller. It didn’t turn out as fantastic as I had hoped (didn’t make as much money as I had hoped), but I think it went pretty well. I love what I do and I look forward to my work every day! The head of the biology department at the local college called me today to ask if I would consider teaching a class again (because the person who replaced me when I left has also decided to quit) – and I very gladly said ‘no, but thank you for the offer.’ My life and outlook on ‘work’ has improved so much in the past year I would never consider going back! Thanks Jay and Ryanne for helping me realize that full-time reselling was possible. Looking forward to year #2.

Returns: 0 (Though one buyer messaged me AFTER I mailed their package and marked it as shipped, asking to cancel because they gave me the wrong address.. yah. And another said she did not receive an item though tracking listed as ‘delivered’ and my post master confirmed that the GPS location at the last scan was at her house. Good times. I did not refund, and am expecting negative feedback – 3 out of 6 feedback this buyer has left other sellers has been negative.)
Number of items listed this week: 29 (listed at $587)I am visiting family for the holidays and decided this year to just change my Ebay handling time to 10 business days and leave it going. I was really set on closing up shop (and I did put my Etsy store on vacation), but the longer handling time worked for two other shorter trips I have taken this year, so I feel ready to take the plunge. I know 10 days isn’t crazy extreme, but it feels like a lot to me! I gave myself a little extra cushion in case bad weather comes up, so the actual handling time will probably be less. Under promise and over deliver! I would really like to sell some things while I am away. Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays to everyone!

Number of items listed this week: 33 (listed at $506)Sounds like there is a lot of interest in Etsy all of a sudden. Wishing everyone success in their new ventures! I have sold on Etsy since 2011 and from my experience Q4 has the highest sales that tapers off in the following Q1 with a noticeable slow down in late spring / early summer. I sell toys and kids books so this doesn’t really surprise me and it seems like a common trend for retail. I had one year that didn’t follow that trend, but I started a new job in the middle so I neglected my shop for the rest of the year.
12/06/2017 at 9:51 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 337: If You Build It, You Will Have Storage #28299T-Satt: My Etsy store hasn’t grown much this year in size much (around 300 items grown to 500 items). My focus has been on starting eBay this year (0 listings to 600). For Etsy though, the number of items in my store has increased this year, but there have been ups and downs. Same story with my sales, a general upward trend across the year, but ups and downs. I plotted “total items in Etsy store” and “total etsy sales” on a bar graph with my weekly data. Both increase with a similar slope. This slope however is a better fit for the “Total items” than “Sales”. (R2 value of 0.69 vs 0.46, which neither is great, so a line probably isn’t even the best fit for either.
Exponential trend lines show similar fit. Neither is great.
Maybe I just haven’t hit any plateau points, or I need more than one year’s worth of data. I have sales data for the last 6 years, but I have only been keeping track of # of items in my store this year.
I also plotted weekly ‘Sales’ vs ‘# Items in store’ in a scatter plot. No relationship.
Finally I plotted weekly ‘Sales’ vs ‘New Items Listed’ in a scatter plot. No relationship there either.
I am guessing that the increase in sales over the course of this year is just a function of increased overall shopping in Q4. (Especially since I sell almost exclusively vintage toys and kids books in my Etsy shop).
