MyCottage,
That’s very interesting to hear. My problem in the past is that I became a bit obsessive over calculating profit margins on individual items and things, when in reality I should have just kept it simpler to keeping track of “money spent on products” and “money made by selling products” and then deducting the fees/memberships/costs of running the business as expenses. Once they made the switch, I found it far easier to separate the two and not worry about the individual items as much as long as the overall numbers were trending up and looking good overall in the right direction. I’m sure I’m not alone on that :).
For shipping, you can still use third party software (I use Endicia personally) and earn your Credit Card points and rewards and all that. I’m not sure if you can do it directly with eBay shipping, but there are still options if that is a significant part of your business. I do several thousand dollars of shipping a month as well, so the points definitely do add up and I’d miss not having them. I hear you about the slight delay in the payments transferring to your bank, though I personally like having it all deposited as a net and having all the fees and things taken out which makes my accounting a lot easier.
Just curious what it is you don’t like about Managed Payments? I was hesitant at first and to be honest I love the new system. It’s just so streamlined and easy now and I almost never have to deal with Paypal anymore. You may like it more than you think you will.
1000% yes. Usually when I’m doing it on my phone or on an item that I’m more than happy to have sold, so you’re not alone there.
I have, however, been on the receiving end though where a seller accidentally accepted at a price much lower than they meant to (and they still shipped the item), or where a seller sent me the wrong item…realized their mistake and told me to keep both items.
Happy selling! ^_^
This is fantastic news! This has always been one of my biggest misgivings about using the eBay app directly and have instead relied on third party software or migration type things to list. I’ll have to give them a second chance :). Maybe with the coming eBay Managed Payments we’ll continue to see more seller-friendly policies in place. We can only hope. Thanks for the heads up!
Hi Ryanne (love the podcast!),
I also have had this happen very recently so I’m glad you found a fix. In general I find that listing on the phone is a much more efficient method, even though the computer is easier for me to type and has some extra options. At the moment I’m doing most of my listing in Shopify then porting over to eBay which works 99% of the time :). Best of luck with everything!
Fantastic tip! I actually had no idea this was possible and had a customer request this only a week ago. Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know :). I could swear this wasn’t available in the past.
I have had this happen to me when they went to the inventory system where items stay in your list of available items (and sometimes have a QTY: 0). For some reason some of my quantities were increased to one or more and I ended up selling items I no longer had. I believe this was because I was using third party software to manage my items across multiple websites which can lead to issues. The only way I do this now is with Shopify but I only do it for items I know that I’ll be restocking every week. Best of luck to you. Just cancel the order. It stinks but it happens. Just part of doing business on eBay.
07/01/2020 at 3:25 pm in reply to: eBay international standard delivery VS Global Shipping Program #78974I used to ship entirely on my own internationally but was burned on several high cost items when the tracking didn’t work out properly. After switching to GSP I have had zero problems. I’m told by buyers that the fees are higher (eBay charges them more for international shipping) but that’s on their end and I find any buyer willing to pay those high GSP fees is more than likely more reliable than simply opening the flood gates and having to be responsible for a package lost in Chile or something.
Just my two cents. I love my international customers and ship to them regularly. I just use GSP to do so.

This is such a great question. I’m super OCD about using every last character available to me but I try to describe the item as best I can rather than just stuffing words into the title. This is actually my one thing I don’t like about Mercari (only 40 characters max for titles!) but in hindsight, maybe it’s actually not such a bad thing since sales are steady there and don’t seem affected in the slightest. Your question is making me second guess my tactics now ^_^.
This is a legitimate concern for anything that’s stored too long. Were they exposed to sunlight or some sort of higher temperature perhaps? I can see that having an effect on plastics in particular. You have the right idea to keep them stored in containers anyhow I think, as I made the mistake of leaving items on a rack without containers and we had our basement flood. Luckily a lot of the items were above the water and were perfectly fine, but our media collection in particular had all of the packaging damaged due to the increased moisture and such.
Hope you solve your issue though. Be sure to keep us posted as nobody wants to have their storage spoiled!
06/14/2020 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Is it Possible to Have Listing End When One Variation Sells? #78410@sonia GREAT use of custom SKU’s! I knew I was asking the right sort of people 🙂 Thanks guys (and girls)!
06/14/2020 at 11:26 am in reply to: Is it Possible to Have Listing End When One Variation Sells? #78403Amatino, that’s a very good point :). My only concern is that I have a random orders at like 3am and with my luck I’d end up selling both variations haha. A lot of my items sell rather quickly. I appreciate the suggestion, I may very well try this!
Buying the famous eBay tape for the first time ever thanks to your recommendations. I usually buy the Scotch Heavy Duty Shipping Tape from Costco/BJ’s but it’s quite pricey so free or almost free sounds good to me. The eBay shipping jackets/bubble mailers are also quite nice as is the tissue paper. Really happy to get double shipping supplies this time around, thanks for the heads up!
06/12/2020 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Is it Possible to Have Listing End When One Variation Sells? #78377Thanks guys! You’re right, it’s probably way too complicated doing it that way anyhow. I’m just going to go ahead and list them separately and offer combined shipping options :). That’s probably the better way to go about it anyhow. Appreciate the input!
