01/05/2021 at 11:50 pm in reply to: Is Your eBay seller protections monthly summary messed up? #84965Sharyn, Thanks for letting them know. Pretty embarrassing for eBay if you ask me… it seems like that should be an easy coding fix.
Thanks, Pikapop! Congrats to you too! I am starting to finally feel better.. but unfortunately lost my TRS status for the first time in years due to being too sick to get up and pack on time back in October and November. Finally starting to get my energy back and hoping to earn it back next month.
Jay, the first kid stresses you out and rocks your world… after you have 2 or 3, the dirty little secret that larger families know is that it’s all downhill from there and gets easier and easier. 🙂
Retro, It sounds like your wife and I use the same method/philosophy of child spacing. Not exactly widely known or discussed, but works very well for me!
I have been playing around with my promoted listing rates and tracking my impressions, click through rate and sales conversion %. I am finding that the higher promoted fees do give (slightly) more impressions.. but much higher numbers don’t really amount to much higher sales in the end – just more money for ebay. Sales seem to work even better for me. Recently I lowered my PL to only 1% to maximize any advantage and have been running lots of sales. My bottom line has been the same and is saving on ad fees…
@retro-treasures-wv Thanks! I guess it looks like an Odyssey upgrade in the distant future… I better get listing. I have seen some aftermarket jumpseat options for my mini-van but they seem expensive and like you said.. the mini jumpseat isn’t really workable for a carseat or older kid… Nice to hear the the newer Odyssey’s have a fully functional middle row.
Retro, did this happen to you? I have successfully placed 10 day holds on INR cases (via faecbook messenger) and it seemed to work just fine. The problem I was told is in closing the case… it’s stupid, but if the buyer receives the item and then “closes” the case or in any way contacts customer service… even if the item is “delivered” .. then the seller still gets a defect. The ONLY way to avoid a defect is to call or contact CS and ask to escalate and close the case in the seller’s favor. It’s a race as to who gets to customer service first… Whatever happened to you.. I agree it is a broken system and dependent on what service rep you get and what button they push.
Hi Jay & Ryanne, Thank you for your podcasts! Just want to say I got to try Broad Porch coffee and it was great! Can’t wait to try your lighter roasts next. I’m pretty sure someone asked a while back if you would ever get into roasting cacao nibs? I 2nd that question.. I’m addicted to adding these into my greek yogurts… so good… you should look into this! 🙂
Hey Retro, Congrats on your terrific year – that is totally inspiring! I love seeing your $1k/week numbers every week now… Congrats on #6! I am also expecting #6! It’s been a rough road pregnancy wise (so very sick) so my business has been coasting.. not sourcing, just shipping… What kind of mini-van do you own? We have a Dodge Grand Caravan (fits 7) and it is already maxed out. This baby was a bit of a surprise… so.. not sure what we are going to do yet… We bought 2 new-to-us vehicles two years ago with 3rd row seating to accommodate our family… I don’t want to buy another car anytime soon! I think we’ll just make-do for now but kind of rules out any long family trips for us for now…
Hi Oldtone… you aren’t alone at all! I had a large USPS pickup early in Dec… I think it was for 8 packages. It was a temp employee and they didn’t scan any of the items. Also, they must have gotten lost in the holiday shuffle because most of the items didn’t even have any scans at all some for 4 days later and half of them for a week or two weeks later and one, never! Ridiculous! I could not prove I mailed anything on time! (Even though I did within 24 hours…) Now the INR’s started rolling in… some of these items are still “lost” and “late”… Here are a few things I did.. some might help… This has been mentioned before on here, but for any packages that have no scans at all and you know the USPS has them… I opened up a “USPS missing mail request” at USPS.com .. this is different than a claim… one thing it will do is update a line in the tracking that a “package research case was created”.. AND more importantly… it will (usually) move the status bar to “in transit” which may or may not appease the customer, but it will help you when you are requesting a 10 day hold for any INR requests when you contact customer support. (I have been using facebook messenger to do this… I can factually state all my “evidence” and then make my request and let them get back to me which usually takes less than 24 hours…) I also search my email for the USPS confirmation email titled “USPS – Your Package Pickup Request Confirmation” -for the date the pickup was made, even though it doesn’t directly prove they picked up your package, I have been throwing that in the chat as well, as more “proof” that the USPS received my items… I have at least been able to get the INR 10 day extensions through this means and it shows the customer that you are “doing” something in the tracking… If you didn’t make scheduled pickups, I know this won’t help you, but you can still file the missing mail requests to get that tracking to flip to “in transit” in case you get an INR request in the near future. The extensions only seem to happen if they are requested by the seller and you have mailed the items within 2 days of your stated handling time. I’m still trying to figure it out. One media mail package has been in limbo for over one month with NO tracking updates, so I had to just refund, but it was only $18. Good luck.. we are all in the same boat.. no fun…
Old Dad – Of Course I will, HAHA… makes me so mad… 🙂
Mummers – Glad that was an easy to handle call. Usually a cancel initiated by the seller for “item not in stock” results in a defect… you an check under My Ebay -> Selling -> Scroll Down to Seller Level (US Region) and click to expand -> Next, expand “If we evaluated you today” -> expand “Transaction Defect Rate” and you can see if you have received a defect for this cancellation. Hopefully you did dodge the bullet!
I just did something similar – I sold a souvenir glass to an International Buyer that had been in storage for 5 years and during our last move it must have gotten lost or misplaced, before I had an inventory system. I couldn’t find it anywhere after 2 full days of looking through every bin twice… not worth the stress for a $20 item. I finally sent an apology message, I also offered 50% off another item of choice and then cancelled the sale (which took care of the refund). I choose “Problem with Buyer’s Address” as the cancellation reason (not entirely true…) to try and avoid a defect. I haven’t heard anything from the customer or eBay since. Good luck with trying to get your transaction cancelled with eBay. Let us know how it goes.
Hi cdils,
Regarding media mail… I just sold an old encyclopedia that was listed under “Antiquarian and Collectibles” and I noticed the Media Mail option was not showing up for me either using eBay’s “Print Shipping Label”. About to go looking into either paypal shipping labels or sign up for pirate ship.. but I tried eBay Bulk Shipping (which I don’t normally use) and I noticed the Media Mail option was available! So, maybe it’s worth a shot for next time to try the Bulk Shipping option… (You can use it even to ship a single item by “removing” anything else.) I had “free shipping” on this listing and definitely didn’t want to spend $8.06/priority when it was only $3.26 for media…
*Update: Make sure “Custom Size” option is checked when you go to print your ebay label… I had “carrier packaging”… so that is why it wasn’t showing up. A different issue than yours… but just an FYI 🙂
04/16/2019 at 6:27 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 406: Disposable Income, WTF is that? #60348Retro, we may just have to agree to disagree on this topic… but I’ll try one more time. Without posting the particulars of my complex tax situation here – take a hypothetical example of Sally & Joe Smith, with a $41,000 taxable income and 5 kids under 16 years of age.
Plug this into a 2017 tax calculator such as this:
https://www.priortax.com/tax-calculator/2017/
Their “refund” is $7,919.Now, plug the same into a 2018 tax calculator such as this:
https://www.nerdwallet.com/taxes/tax-calculator
Now their “refund” is only $5,900. -
