I sold a Polar Care unit like that about a year ago. Then a month later I got an email from eBay saying I wasn’t allowed to sell it. LOL ok, thanks eBay!
I received a large box of old dolls as part of an auction lot a while ago. I was just wanting the box of hats that came with the lot, but got these as well. I’m glad I did, though. I recently listed them as “haunted” dolls for some crazy high prices just to see what happens. Here’s the first doll item to sell from that box. Just a group of old doll parts. Dirty, but in decent condition. I took a best offer of $53. Each listing that came from this lot cost me .43 cents.
Antique Doll PartsHere’s my large sale of the week, and unfortunately my highest COGS ever. I made the rookie mistake a couple years ago of getting into a bidding war for this Pelican gun case. I didn’t do thorough enough research. Brand new ones go for a lot of money, but used ones not so much. Ended up paying $150 for it. It sat listed for a long time, well over a year. Finally took a best offer for $100. So I lost money, but gained some insight. Lessons aren’t always cheap.
Pelican Rifle Hardshell CaseI acquired this huge bunch of road maps for a couple bucks at an auction. I didn’t know a thing about them, but I liked some of the other stuff that came with the lot and it was cheap enough. I’ve since learned that really old road maps, especially with old gas station advertising, can fetch some good money. But mine were all from the 60s though 80s which isn’t old enough apparently. So I sold them as a lot for $60.
Lot of Old Road MapsHere was an interesting sale. This metal spinning instrument came out of a box lot of random junk. Each sellable item cost me $2. I had no idea what it was, so I consulted Reddit. Go an answer within minutes. It’s an old centrifuge for making dental impressions. I thought it was unique enough to warrant a high price, so I listed it for $100 and it sold after a few weeks for full price.
Antique Dental CentrifugeFinally, I’d like to share an item that I probably would never buy again. I found this new in box game How to Host a Murder in a thrift store when I was first getting started. It was only $3. I’ve since spotted these things all over the place. I tried like hell to sell this thing. Had it on Amazon when I was still doing that. Kept lowering the price. I was sooo relieved when it finally sold last week for $20.

I had a very good week for sales. It’s crazy how it seems like something happens on the backend of eBay and it feels like the flow of sales can just turn off and on, week by week.
My COGS is really high this week mainly for the Pelican rifle case I sold. It was a rookie mistake on my part. I got caught up in a bidding war at an auction a couple summers ago and ended up spending over $150 on this case thinking I could flip it for double my money. Well I found out that people don’t want to spend a lot of money on a case that already had the foam cut out to fit a specific gun. After about 2 years of it being listed, I finally took a $100 offer just to get it out of my storage. I’ve since learned to be able to let things go at auctions if they’re not dirt cheap.
Speaking of auctions, I went to one on Saturday. They advertised all these old toys from the 80s and 90s. A lot of Kenner type stuff still in original packaging and so forth. When I got there, none of that was to be found. Apparently, the family was notified of it’s worth and pulled it all at the last moment. Ugh! I probably wouldn’t have been able to touch any of it anyways because all the nerds came out of the woodwork for this one. LOL!
Thanks for the tip on the Filson shirt! I’ll have to keep my eyes open for those.
I never pass up on old retro glasses as long as they’re not junk. These Sure-Guard safety glasses came from an estate sale and cost me a couple bucks. They were in almost perfect condition. I priced them high and was surprised when I sold them for full price of $50.
Sure-Guard Safety GlassesI went to an auction of a local pottery maker who got himself in some legal trouble and abandoned his store. There wasn’t much that I was interested in, but I did manage to get some pottery pieces for relatively cheap. I got this little jar with lid for $2.50. I listed it a while ago and forgot about it. Finally sold for $35. I kind of regret selling it now cause I really liked the piece. But oh well.
Hand-Thrown Pottery JarThis is my big sale from last week. I acquired a big box full of drafting and drawing tools and such at an auction for $20. There were a lot of sellable items in it, so each piece came to .60 cents. I knew nothing about this kind of stuff, so it required a lot of research. These K&E lettering pen tips go into specially designed pens. I didn’t have a lot of comps to go by, so I priced them way higher than I expected to sell them for. I ended up taking a best offer of $65.
K&E Lettering Pen TipsThis Minute Man metal letter opener almost went to the .25 cent yard sale pile. But I had second thoughts and listed it for $15 free shipping. It took a few months, but it did finally sell. I have no idea where I acquired it from, so I’m going to say I got it for nothing.
The Minute Man Metal Letter OpenerI had asked the SL forum for more information about this Sylvania tool kit (thanks MyCottage for your assistance!) While there weren’t very many comps, and the ones that did come up were lower than I expected, I still thought it was unique and desirable enough to be worth more. So I priced it high and it sold within a couple months for $60.
Vintage Sylvania TV Repair Kit08/21/2018 at 10:39 am in reply to: Could anyone with a Worthpoint account help me out for a moment? #47797Since this thread became active again, I just wanted to stop by and say that I sold that little Sylvania tool kit for the full price of $60! It goes to show that it doesn’t always matter what past sold prices were. It’s all about the supply and demand. But I am grateful for the info. That way I knew I wouldn’t have left money on the table if others have sold for like $2000 or something.

But then I noticed the size. Was that one solid piece or a bunch of individual pieces inside a big wrapper?

Number of New Items Listed this Week: 63Ugh, bad week for me! I had a couple of days where I didn’t sell a single thing. Things quickened up on Saturday, but too little too late really. I also went to an auction on Saturday and only bought one thing to resell. Lame! It was an estate auction, but I think the family members picked out everything that had any value for themselves before the auction.
I did manage to have an awesome week of listing. 63 new items…not bad! At this rate, I’ll definitely be at 2K listings by the end of the year.
Here it is, only because I just used it this morning.
http://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/BulkPhotoScanner.htmWow! That’s the worst. You would think someone with at least a little common sense would see that and not think twice about allowing it. Maybe “reported” items are reviewed by eBay employees who, like the customer support staff, have varying degrees of empowerment. Some view infractions as cut and dry while others are able to see where things fall in a more gray area and can weigh whether something should or shouldn’t be allowed.
Eventually, I’ll explore other morketplaces. I’m curious about Etsy especially given the type of items I sell. Are they as strict with item restrictions as eBay?
I’ve been thinking about getting on the Facebook marketplace recently. Is it set up for easy payment (like is Paypal integrated into it) or is it all Craigslist style where you have to figure out the payment method yourself for each sale?
Tiki, I also had a trench art item removed. Last year, I had listed a really unique carved artillery shell. I had it priced really high too with a bunch of watchers right out of the gate. A few days later I got the email about not allowing explosives or grenades to be listed on eBay. lol! I probably should have fought it, but I decided to keep the piece for display on my fireplace.
I just went through a bunch of my most recent GTC relisted items and they all seem okay. No missing pictures. My next group of items that are due to be “relisted” end in 3 days so I’ll check again then.
Maybe I will call. If anything, I can ask how it affects my record, i.e. how many strikes I’m allowed in a given time period. They’ve got to account for honest mistakes.
Also, I’m concerned about this being on my record. This is the forth time that I had listings removed due to some policy that I was unaware of or wouldn’t have even guessed would be an issue. How many more times can I get caught unknowingly breaking a listing policy before harsher consequences occur? Has anyone else had this happen to them?
I thought about that but I don’t want to risk it. If I get banned, I’m screwed. I’m mostly just peeved that I spent a lot of time researching railroad keys and found that there’s a huge collector base for these things, just to be denied a day after listing them. And yeah, you would think that because of the age of these keys that it wouldn’t be a problem.
