Thanks. I’ve never had a problem with global shipping.
Thanks Sharyn
I’m like you I really don’t want to do consignments that much but as we go along I’ve been asked to do some. I usually tell them I’m too busy with my own stuff but was curious what you charged. I know what you mean about people being attached to their stuff so when you tell them what you think you can get they’re sometimes insulted. I probably won’t end up doing any consignments other than for my niece. She’s mid 30s and finally decided she could part with some of her lego kits. So I told her to put them together one last time and take a picture so I could use that in the listing. She’s being deployed for 4 months so hopefully I’ll have some money for her by the time she gets back. Thanks so much for the info. Good luck on your sales.
Donna
Hi Sharyn
I’ve been away over the last couple of years. I’m starting to get back into selling and was wondering what you charge for your consignment listings? I’m going to do a few Lego sets for my niece and I’m not charging her anything. But I figured if I wanted to sell for others I would need to charge something. Thanks, Donna
04/17/2020 at 1:19 pm in reply to: GE Wildcat Record player, Vintage eyeglasses, Military aircraft litho, Pioneer #76353Well sales have been going pretty well for me during the virus lockdown. I only wish I had more cotton fabric to sell!!
I purchased a MaxSold auction back in December that had a bunch of UVA fabric and other stuff. I like college fabric since there’s usually Mom’s and others that make things for the kids when they graduate. So that’s why I bought the lot. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I’d be selling fabric for face masks.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/324132925147I had a couple of pieces of fabric for Virginia Tech as well that sold.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/323598189329Others have mentioned puzzles selling and I’ve sold several as well. We like to work them at the beach so I get them, work them, take a picture and then sell them if they’re something people are looking for.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/223696292467I hope the sales stay relatively high. I’m not very motivated to list but I’m trying to tell myself I’ll be ready to restock once things open back up.
Stay safe
Donna04/04/2020 at 2:14 pm in reply to: Hockey Pin, Stereo, Auto parts, Zenith Record player 8-Track Stereo, Vacuum bags #75841Thanks Sharyn. That sounds good to me. I may reach out to some of the people that’ve asked in the past.
I still have a fair amount of my own stuff that I need to list but with the way things are going I’m trying to think of how to source more stuff. The last few days I’m really having trouble getting motivated to do anything. BUT I hope to get out of the funk and start getting back into a regular listing rhythm.
04/04/2020 at 1:05 pm in reply to: Hockey Pin, Stereo, Auto parts, Zenith Record player 8-Track Stereo, Vacuum bags #75834Hey Sharon
I’ve seen you post about selling on consignment for friends and family. How much to you charge for doing the consignments? I’ve had friends ask about selling stuff for them but I usually just tell them I have too much stuff to list. Now that yard sale season is shut down I was thinking I might do some consignments but I’m never sure how much to charge or how to work it.
Thanks for the info
DonnaIt’s down here too. It’ll come up enough so that I can do a little then the next time I try to go to the seller hub a get a message saying We ran into a problem, but we’re working on it. Please try later. This is in northern VA. Hopefully they get it fixed soon!
Virginia just received a ‘Stay at home’ order. No unnecessary travel allowed and beaches closed.
01/24/2020 at 3:54 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Snoopy WWI Flying Ace figure, Reel tapes #73258Great job Sharon. I love flatware. I usually stay away from the silver plate but have done pretty well with it in some of the patterns. I find that the stainless does better and is usually cheaper to buy. Seems like people think if the set isn’t complete then they mark it low
You hit on another of my favorite items. CDs & DVDs. If you find large lots of a specific genre and then group them, I’ve done really well doing that. I purchased a MaxSold lot of CDs (mostly classical) and 90% were sealed. I grouped them by label and one person bought 5 sets that added up to $256 (free shipping). The entire lot of CDs only cost about $10 including fees and tax. So I was thrilled. So needless to say I’m always looking at CDs/DVDs.
I have another outlet for the CDs as well. There’s a great used book store in Knoxville TN (McKays used books). Knoxville is where most of my family lives so we go there pretty often. McKays take CDs, DVDs, Video Games, Video systems and Board Games plus other stuff. Over Christmas I had a large number of CDs (mostly from a heavy metal lot) that I sold for over $200. They give you more if you take trade but I have so much trade that I took the cash. So if there’s any used books/CD/DVD stores in your area you might be able to get even more money out of those kinds of auction lots. There’s McKays in several cities in TN and I think maybe NC but the one in Knoxville is the best I’ve found. They’re close to the Univ of TN so I don’t know if that’s what makes them so good but the throughput on their stuff is amazing.
I think I’ve figured it out. I googled paypal free shipping and it seems that PayPal will refund shipping on a limited number of purchases. So I think PayPal actually is refunding the return shipping that she paid to ship it back to me.

I hardly ever post my what sold but thought I would include a few this week
I used to do really well with games but they’re harder to find and don’t sell for as much as they used to. I did have a couple of game sales this week. This one was really nice. Found at a family run estate sale for $1. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323787066929
One of my favorite items to sell is flatware. I love it when I find the Town & Country Washington Forge wooden handle flatware. This one was made in Taiwan but it still sold well. Paid $4 at a thrift. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323966682225
Here’s a sale that was kind of unusual. I love fabric, especially any that’s a little different. I found 2 (1 yard) pieces of Ghastlies fabric for $1 each. One sold during the summer for around $50 and this one sold to someone in France. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323684202920
I like DVDs and CDs since they don’t take up much space. I found these DVDs at an estate sale for $1 each. I wasn’t sure how well they’d do so I left some at the estate sale. Once I got home I wished I had bought all of them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323963190733
Happy Thanksgiving to all and I hope your 4th quarter sales are great
DonnaWelcome Derek
What part of Knoxville do you live in? I’m originally from Halls and my family still lives in Halls/Powell area.
Knoxville is a great scavenger area. There’s great yard sales all through the summer and they start on Thursday!! Up here we get a random one on Friday but Saturday Morning is the only day for yard sales around here
Keep up the good work.
Donna10/18/2019 at 8:50 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Train case, Marantz parts, Channel Master radio, Pinup notepads, EyeClops #69241That’s the same here only it was an early edition of the Wish Book!! Probably 1969/70.
We would look at every item in that catalog and ‘wish’ we’d get it. EVEN the colony house little cakes and things! So funny
I love your ID SandDollarSaver!
My husband and I have a software company called Sand Dollar Software that we started 30 years ago. We’re winding it down now, getting ready for retirement but I love Sand Dollars. When we started the business back in 1989 we couldn’t decide what to call ourselves but dreamed of working/programming from the beach. We ended up doing that (at least part time) for the last 12 years. Our main house is in Northern VA but we have our ‘beach’ house close to Chincoteague VA. I say ‘close’ because we’re still 25 minute drive to the beach BUT it was close enough for us. We still collect anything with sand dollars on it!
Hi Emma
You guys are making great money, you just need to focus on where that money is going. I would recommend reading Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. This is an easy read and gets you started in the right direction. A book I gave my daughter when she graduated college (plus have given to her friends that are graduating) is The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins. Jay did an interview with him a while back that is one of the best interviews you can listen to (episode 250 or 255 somewhere around there). His book is on Amazon and is a great starting point as well. Also there’s tons of financial independent blogs and podcasts to read/listen to but if you’re just starting to learn about finances you don’t want to get overwhelmed.
As far a ebay goes there’s a learning curve but you just have to start listing a few things and see what you like to sell. Check the library and see if there’s not some books one selling on ebay. Our library has a few and this might give you motivation to start selling there.
Good luck and thanks for sharing your story
Donna08/03/2019 at 6:12 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Pink flamingos, Converse Hi Tops, Zippo Wicks, Record Player, Stainer Violin #65825Well July was a slow month but I had a few nice sales.
I still love flatware. This was from a huge lot I got on MaxSold. They didn’t have any pictures of it in the auction listing so I took a little bit of a chance and it paid off big. I paid about $7.50 for this portion of the lot. There was a huge amount of flatware when I picked it up and I’ve already sold a fair amount. I think the total for the entire lot was about $25. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323752894029
Unfortunately the MaxSold auctions this summer have been few an far between.
Another item that I love to find is unopened craft kits. I sold another Dimensions Gold horse cross stitch kit. This sold for $80 and I paid $2.50 for it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323810638541
I’m also working my way through a pipeline of train books. I bought a bunch of train books back in February and paid about .50 for each book. They’ve been selling all along. It’s not a lot of money but one or two sell each week. This is one of the better ones that just sold. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323728057777
I love seeing and hearing about everyone’s sells. We’re fully ebay now so hopefully I can make enough to pay for our health insurance for 2019.
Happy yard saling!
