Hi All
Just a few sales from the last few weeks.
I love when I find unopened craft kits. I found this kit for $2.50 at a thrift shop and knew it would be a good one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/223522051074 There weren’t any others listed like this.
Another find at that same thrift was a huge lot of Washington Forge flatware. I love flatware sets when I can find them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323828510004 It cost $10.50 for the whole lot.
This is a small sale but I love selling patches. This came in an online auction lot. I paid about .50 for each patch in the lot. There were 2 like this one. I hope someone else would like this patch!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/223420158024
Thanks for all your videos Steve. And a big thanks to Jay and Ryanne for posting their podcast every week. You guys keep me motivated!

It’s funny how some weeks are up and some down. I had a few interesting sales. The following all came from my MaxSold buys. MaxSold is my favorite way of acquiring inventory. It can be a pain to drive to some of the locations but I end up getting stuff that I never would have looked at at yard sales or thrifts.
My big sale was a vintage lot of Ready Set Grow book in their original box. The maxsold lot where I got these books was a huge lot of vintage (70s-80s) kids books. I really didn’t look at the rest of the lot but I knew this set would sell well. I don’t think these books had even been looked at.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/223477026749Another good sale was this Scala Mesh Hat. It was in a huge lot of hats in a MaxSold auction. Paid about $1
https://www.ebay.com/itm/323762281337Here’s an example of what I end up doing with some of the games and stuff I get in the maxSold lots. The games are usually incomplete or something. That was the case for this Electronic Kit. I couldn’t get it to work (I don’t have Steve’s skills!) so I just sold the Instruction Manual that came with it. Not a big sale but I only had about .50 into each game.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/323585900328Thanks to everyone that shows us their sales each week. Especially Steve!
Yard sales can be a pain. You really have to just look at it as a business deal. I go to so many where I walk up skim through what’s there (usually piles & piles of infant stuff) and walk away. I try to be friendly even if I know there’s probably nothing I’m interested in.
I did this just the other day though. As I drove up to a yard sale everything looked like tiny kids clothes and broken toys BUT as I walked to the back there was a ton of heavy metal CDs. I know nothing about heavy metal but I do like to buy large lots of things that I can list. So I asked how much for the entire lot and he said $40. There must have been 300-400 CDs so I said sure. So now I’m working my way through the lot so that my heavy metal pipeline is turned on! The first day I sold 2 groups of CDs that paid for the whole thing. I still know nothing about heavy metal and don’t listen myself but I’m glad to list them on ebay. If I had done a drive-by on this one I would have missed a nice pipeline!
So in most cases I’ll at least do a walk-by since I’ve made the effort to actually find the sale. Most of the times it’s just duds but you never know until you look a little closer. Plus I’m addicted to yard sales.

03/25/2019 at 1:53 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Ray Bans, Long Haul jeans, McIntosh preamp, Florsheim shoes, Zippo #59223Yeah I usually don’t go very high on my bids with MaxSold. You usually can’t tell exactly what you’re getting. I’ve had one sale where one of the travel bags that was shown in the picture wasn’t there when I went to pick up the lot. It wasn’t what I was really buying the lot for but still it makes you wary when you’re bidding. There was a couple of women talking at one of the auctions while we were waiting and they said someone had taken the dolls from their lot. I’ve noticed they’re more security conscious at the last few sales. The first auction I won was a little over 3 years ago and I didn’t even show them my invoice or anything. I really like the way they work but there can be drawbacks.

I don’t usually take the time to share my solds but I had a flatware sale last week that made my week. I love to buy/sell flatware because most people don’t bother to price it very high at yards sales. The set that sold I picked up last May at a yard sale for $5.

This flatware got an offer several weeks ago for $100 and I got them up to $175 but I didn’t want to take less than $200. When they didn’t take the $200 offer I was kicking myself for not taking the $175 but then late one night this sold for full price. Cha-ching!!
I usually pick up any flatware from Japan but also Oneida (especially cubed) and Towle.
Sharyn (I know you like MaxSold too) I just scored some flatware through a MaxSold auction yesterday. The listing had flatware in the title but there really wasn’t any pictures of it. The description just said “over 100 pieces”. So I figured I’d take a chance and bid $26. Well it turned out to be over 250 pieces from 3 different patterns. I could hardly carry the box to the car. You just never know with the MaxSold auctions. It’s one reason I’m addicted to bidding on them.
Happy scavenging!
DonnaThanks. Yeah most of the booklets aren’t worth that much. That’s why it was sitting in a pile for so long.
Steve, I love seeing your solds video each week. I had a sale earlier this month that I thought I would share. I love craft kits and booklets since they’re so easy to store and ship. I found this Women of the Bible Quilt Pattern booklet and sold it for $110. I paid about $1 for it and had it in a pile for several months before getting around to researching it. I couldn’t believe how much it was going for and quickly listed it once I saw. It’s from Augsberg Fortress so I think it’s a limited number of books printed.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their great finds. It’s really an education seeing Steve’s videos and looking at what everyone posts.

Terri, I was hoping that it was something like that. I wish the paypal message had stayed so that I could look back at it to see if I read it correctly. Thanks, Donna

I love MaxSold auctions too. The nice thing is they don’t really sort through most of the groupings so you can find some hidden treasures.
How far are you willing to drive to pick up the auction stuff in your area? We’re in northern VA and I’ve gone over to Maryland a couple of times but I don’t like driving that far.
The problem I’ve run in to is that I’ll be bidding on a few lots and then get outbid on the things that I really wanted but win the things I’ve bid on but wasn’t sure I really wanted. I’m cheap so I usually drop out if it goes higher than $20. But this is the only on-line auction site I’ve ever bid on. Plus sometimes the pickup time is during the week and since I don’t work a normal job I can usually go pick up stuff that other people may not be able to pick up.

Yeah I’m familiar with the ups and downs with the selling cycle but this month has been particularly down and I don’t feel like I’ve done anything different. I don’t list nearly as much as you (Jay and Ryanne) but I’ve been doing my usual but I don’t seem to be getting the same results. I don’t usually pay that much attention but this has been so extended that it really feels down.
I’ve added the promoted listings to my higher priced items to see if that helps. I was just wondering if most people add this to all items or at what point this option seems to make a difference. It’s weird how they charge a different percentage for different items. I’m not sure why some items charge almost 10% and others only 3%.
This has been the slowest month for me in the last 3 years. Even including the summers. I went all week without a sale last week and only 2-3 low ball offers. I’m not one to really think about slow periods but this is really weird. I had 2 sales on Sunday but there’s been nothing since. This is starting to really worry me.
Does it matter if you put promoted listings on all of your listings? I never really paid attention to the promoted listings until it started showing up within the listing page. Now I’m wondering if I need to add this to all lists? Some listings? If everyone does it then I don’t see how it does anything other than give Ebay more fees.
I usually average about one sale a day. Going a whole week without anything is scaring me. I currently have 1,100 items and I’ve been steadily building my inventory since 2015. I’ve sold on ebay since 2001 but wasn’t all that serious until around 2013/14 and started my store around 2015.

I love seeing your cat and dogs play together. It’s so funny to see you cat playfully attacking your dog! I don’t think he knows what to do with her. She seems like she’s the boss around them
Love your videos and thanks for sharing them

They play so well together it makes me want to get a dog. Then I remember how much work they can be. I love seeing your videos though. We can enjoy your pets from afar.

Great Job on the Trapper Keeper! I love MaxSold. We have those auctions here in Northern VA and I’ve picked up some great box lots on the site. One of my favorites was a box of Johnny West dolls and house for $8. You never know what you’ll find listed.
Thanks for sharing
DonnaWhat I’ve seen some thrift stores that really want to help those who need clothing, shoes, etc is to have a vetting process and if the family really needs the items they get vouchers to use. This makes the items free to the qualified families. Then everyone else pays whatever they want to charge.
There’s several thrift stores I go to down in TN that has signs saying they won’t sell to people who resale. I’m not sure how they can tell but they have the signs posted.
