Number of items listed this week: 4 Ebay, 6 MercariSlow week on Ebay. Listing our old costumes on Mercari to move. Trying out Mercari Local, where a delivery person will make the run between buyer and seller. Cost $7 and up to the buyer.
I lost my TRS status I think because of my low sales volume during my sort of break. Hoping to get it back again soon. Had a nonsensical message from a buyer who maybe has dementia. I avoided an out of stock with a generous partial refund sending a similar item she agreed to, then she got it and is like “where’s my original item?”. I offered to refund but she’s gone quiet so hopefully no bad feedback will appear.
Miss the podcast. 🙂
Only listed two items last week. Hoping for better this week. I have some Halloween stuff I really need to get up.

Number of items listed this week: 2Good sales this week but not the weekend. I was hoping to get some more items listed but had a cold or reaction to my flu shot then spent an entire day looking with my daughter for a homecoming dress (not fun) in our city where a lot of retail has closed. I also got off work early and had some fun thrifting on my birthday instead of listing. Oops.
Our city moved up to the 4th highest cost of living on some survey. Good reason to keep reselling on Ebay and supplement the income.
Looking forward to 4th quarter. Really hope to have more opportunities to list this week. Have a great week everyone.
Thanks! It’s kinda cool because I did take photos for a couple of years of my death piles and they are a lot better than they once were. I also have a number of empty and half empty bins. Still plenty left, mind you but I’ve made a dent anyway. Hopefully we can put our heads down this fall and list away.
I’m also working on the tail end of catching up on all of my medical screenings from the pandemic. As a PSA I encourage everyone to do this. Had a friend get some serious news and had to have major surgery.
Hello! Congratulations to Vintage Lacy on getting married!
I’m back from basically a big Ebay break. I didn’t shut my store down but basically didn’t list for months and months. My son was applying to selective colleges in the worst year ever to do so and I was serving as his counselor and took a deep dive into that world. All of the uncertainty about whether he would have a fairly normal college experience plus the arbitrary nature of 2021 test optional admissions last year was all consuming. Happily, he is at a pretty good school this fall and thriving. I won’t say it went completely perfectly but I’m happy he is in person, residential and able to socialize at a vaccine mandate school. Since we dropped him off I felt enormous relief. I haven’t even cried I was just so glad it worked out ok. Just when I started getting back into Ebay the podcast was canceled! Boo.
So I just glanced through the thread and noticed you were talking about the time it takes to get a listing up. When I started 4-5 years ago I was kind of trying to be fancy about it – not quite to the level of an Etsy shop – but being particular about photos and writing some brief descriptions. I also struggled a bit to price vintage items. With the awesome addition of Terapeak I have a year’s worth of sales and tend to price on the high side of that and take offers. Also the app is better than it used to be, but I still start on the desktop and then add photos on the phone. My strength is finding good items in my location I think so it’s just a matter of getting more things listed. During my break I continued to watch a couple of youtubers who barely describe the items and list simply.
Sourcing has become more competitive here during the pandemic but it’s still not to the level of other cities. I still have loads of death piles, about half of which I would not buy now but some cool stuff too. These days I am in and out of a thrift store almost as fast as the record hounds. I have made a dent in my original death piles for sure but there is a lot more to get through. So I’m getting on board again. My day job is busy and I still have my high maintence kid at home, but I’m not a person who sits around watching Netflix. I prefer treasure hunting and flipping.
Amatino, no need to track my numbers really. I’m just looking for a group to help motivate.

Number of items listed this week: 13Another fun week for me getting back into Ebay and looking for Halloween decor. Still didn’t find much Halloween as I feel it was really picked over except for costumes. My own Pottery Barn Halloween stuff is doing well on Ebay so I have a search out on Mercari and Ebay for similar underpriced. My daughter and her friend asked to go thrifting today so Gen Z is getting in on the action. She got a couple of clothing and accessory things for herself. That was fun.
Also went to an estate sale around the corner from my house. The dealer had good taste and I went late but went back second day and bought a couple of midcentry Ikebana Japanese art pottery vases and steel frogs at half price. There was a really cool third one but a dealer got there before me on day 2.
Getting into it with Ebay again feels good. I’m straight up getting kind of loose with the photos and just want to get stuff listed. I love having Terapeak, as it makes it so much easier to price. I wish I could just list on my phone but really I need to work on the computer still. It does help to use a similar listing on Terapeak with a lot of the item specifics filled out. Then I add photos on my phone.

Number of items listed this week: 3People are in the mood for Halloween this year. Sadly the one store with Halloween out had clearly been picked when I got there. Had some nice sales. Also flipped that Strawberry Shortcake vintage stationery (almost free) from the dregs of the estate sale for $65. My husband jokes it’s elder abuse. 🙂 Remembering why I love Ebay. Happy Fall.
Agree. Half of the job listings seem to be hotel housekeeping. Certainly reselling is more appealing. My son made great money bussing tables last summer but he picked a really busy restaurant during peak season. It will be interesting to see how many of the newer pickers stick with it.
@MyCottage yes young adults. I do also know and see affluent teens who like to thrift for their own clothes and saw some college girl social media profiles listing thrifting as a hobby. But also seeing obvious resellers. The big university is just starting so it may even get worse before it gets better.
On the flip side, bought a few items to wear on Poshmark and sellers seemed very willing to deal.
Hi! Got my coffee and trying the Cameroon – it’s nice.
Well I listed a few Halloween items this week and I’m determined to pare down our old costumes etc. I’m still kind of needing a solid Ebay day. Day job is brisk at the moment. Thrifting a bit and I love to hit it when the Halloween gets put out. Definitely, definitely more scavengers out in my neck of the woods than there used to be. We are in a college and tourist city that is super short on hotel and food service staff. One wonders if some of those prospective employees have figured out selling online is better.
I discovered a reselling Podcast called Pure Hustle, and they have annoying promotions but they seem pretty sharp. Had a recent episode truly mourning the departure of Jay and Ryanne. They had some experimenting going on and decided that sales beget sales > listing. I think he ran a sale and accepted a bunch of decent offers to fire up his sales after trying listing first and restarting listings. They acknowledge it could be other factors of course, but still interesting.
Happy Fall. Retro keep healing.
Take care of yourselves folks. @Retro especially you. Sending healing thoughts.
Just popping in to say that I missed the podcast. I started out on a couple of listings but I’m not in hard core effort mode for sure. Both kids – college freshman and high school in person – are going through major transitions but I do have more time if not mental energy. It’s a bit rough but I look forward to doing what Ebay I can. Sales are a little better.
I’m glad you posted here to let us know how you are doing! 🙂 Sales improvement probably is tied to listing, let’s face it.
I drove by an estate sale and decided to go in (way past opening). It was picked but I still found an overlooked vintage cartoon stationery box that has sold for $60 and some envelopes for shipping.
As far as content goes, I wanted to give a quick plug to Lavender Clothesline on Youtube. I like to watch the videos where she decides to pass on things and she talks about hard goods a lot and decision making. Honorable mention to The Niche Lady. She picks a lot of stuff I wouldn’t but also knows and shows some brands I’m not familiar with. She also shows pictures of the comps she looked up on the screen. I don’t watch much television but I enjoy some of the videos.
After reading the responses I feel like mine was totally inadequate. I’m just a voice in the internet universe but I suggest that you consider at least a quarterly podcast. In the meantime I’ll be supporting your podcast and the coffee biz. You are uniquely intelligent but slumming it. Luv u guys.
Nooooo! 🙂
Aw I hope you decide to keep the forum but I get it. Thanks for all of the info and sharing yourselves and your journey with us. You guys are too cool in my book.

Well I dropped my oldest off at college and feel enormous relief. His college has a serious vax mandate for everyone, though the students are taking some liberties with the initial mask mandate. They caught 10 cases on the initial arrival testing, half are staff, 3 are international students. School population is 4200 in NY. I guess I kind of get fixated on something and obsess a bit so I’m glad my son seems to be settled where he is supposed to be. Now I have some time to get back to Ebay and my younger is vaxxed and back in person. I’m finding it hard to dive in on listing so please use this space to yell at me! Lol. I’ve done a terrible job being productive during the pandemic but I think a lot of it was due to anxiety that my son’s future college life would be disrupted and the insanity of US selective college admissions.
New England was great and people were really friendly and have great manners compared to California. It seemed a bit strange how little of the land is populated and looks the same (from the freeway anyway). We checked out Boston and Mystic – had to scrape Cape Cod because of Henri.
I have about 300 items left in the store and did very little shopping during the pandemic. There is definitely more competition when I do go. I like the Youtuber videos where they show you what they are passing on. I feel like I’ve graduated to the thrift quick and walk out empty handed group now.
R&J glad your sales picked up a bit!
