https://www.ebay.com/itm/235282237730 Found this at the flea market, paid $10. Was not careful and did not notice the small chip. This is a hard to find piece in a desirable pattern, so not really sure the value. I put the high price on and will probably lower later.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335102535015 There’s something I love about the art on this little pan. Not sure exactly what it was meant for.
@Ebaymom one is just bulk sell similar that people are talking about, which I have done. Apparently, some are saying you can also call Ebay and they can “flip your switch” or something if you complain about slow sales. I assume the theory is that there is some sort of rotation cycle and Ebay can move your store up on request. Someone I listen to is supposed to dig in on this and report back. We’ll see…

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $30ish thrift and flea market
Number of items listed this week: 21Ran a 20% off sale and it seemed to pay off. I had run a 15% off sale previously that did not. The sale expired and I’m going to 15% until Wednesday and will see how that goes. I did not do well with listing daily this week, since I was in bed this weekend not feeling well, so I guess it may have been the sale and approaching holidays. A majority of the items selling are new items and my experiment Target RA Christmas items so could be finally the 4th quarter sales are showing up.
R&J it was sketchy times last time and the coffee shop has done so well. So I’m sure the cafe will do well too. Thinking good thoughts for you. I have been reading that consumers at all levels are spending but feeling tight and some are running up credit cards. It does feel like the party might get spoiled soon. I’d like to make as much as I can on Ebay before that happens. Will consider running a 20% off sale again this weekend.
There is a lot of chatter on Youtube about people calling in to Ebay to “reset their stores”. Some people seem to just be talking about sell similar with some tweaks, or that in addition to scheduling the sell similars to drop daily. I’m going to focus on listing more items for now. In the new year have some plans to go over old listings and pricing on them. It is wise of @Ebaymom to do this daily. I’m such a boom and bust kind of person.
I almost finished listing all of the recent hauls except the needlepoint kits which are handy for my 3 daily listing goal. I am really having an aversion to listing large – mostly breakable – items and running out of space where I want to put them. Need to think on that in 2024. The linens are selling well so even though I avoid listing those they have better sell through. Some of the larger kitchen items, dishes, no name pottery maybe not so much.
Still some organizing to do but I did get some things out of my living space and started a new row of bankers boxes in the garage…
Highs and lows on the posts today. Hope it’s a good week for everyone.
I listed 21 items and got sick and was in bed most of the weekend unfortuately.
@Craig since Terapeak has become available, for an item without any condition issues I price at or around the highest sold in 24 months, then generally I’m allowing and auto accepting 10-15% off that price, usually at a round number someone would offer.
However, I do take a look at actives and the range of solds when making a decision. The auto decline I decided on after finding that most buyers don’t come up too much or go back and forth with counters, plus it annoys me a bit. It also keeps people from double dipping if I’m running a sale.I’ve been thinking of looking a little harder at the item sell through rate and setting the offer % lower. I have new RA items in my store though and the margins are thinner there and I would need / want to exclude those probably. Other items I paid very little for and some things I’m more willing to hold out longer on than others because I think they are special. I also factor in that sometimes a person is just looking for an item because they broke it that day so it has to wait in my store at whatever price until that happened or someone finds it on Pinterest.
The 20% sale I ran this week seemed to help. I ran it in the whole store. Sold more new items than used.
🤣 google lens is so awesome, until it isn’t.
.
@AntiqueFrog TY! We thought the first letter was a L and got stuck. As you know I love German pottery.
I almost forgot that I had a rare customer issue this week. An experienced Ebayer bought this expensive but obscure brand chocolate brown bedskirt from me. It was new in the open package with all of the labeling. She wrote and claimed it was not the size stated on the packaging in a lecture type way and said she might be able to use it anyway. I asked what partial refund she though was fair and gave her half the price back (I only paid $6, so I was ok). She made a hint at wanting an additional break on the shipping but I reminded her it was calculated. Long story but I knew she was being manipulative and familiar with Ebay backing the buyer. I avoided the INAD, was polite, and promptly blocked her.

Number of items listed this week: 46Slow week for me and it felt discouraging. I listed most of the items at the end of the week, rather than daily which probably didn’t help things. I ran into a fellow seller this week with an antique booth and he said he’s having to work harder for the same money, and that seems to be a consensus with sellers these days. I feel like consumers are feeling progressively poorer. I know this is true for our family, though for us it’s more from having extra big kid expenses than economy related.
I started running a 20% off sale yesterday and got to make some more offers, which is cutting a little bit further down from my usual bottom on things. I’d like to get something going before the slow downs in December and February. I did have good sales yesterday so perhaps it helped. Last time I ran a 10-15% off sale it didn’t seem to help at all.
This week I discovered a guy on Youtube called the bearded picker. He doesn’t have anything new to say – it’s similar to practical SL advice – but it’s funny to hear things about selling on Ebay given in his country style delivery. He constantly has animals interrupting him and such. He describes Ebay promoting other sellers’ items as a physical violation that I won’t repeat. LOL.
There is a lot of talk about sell through rate. I’m kind of focused on getting items up right now but I think during the slow times I will start tweaking some old listings and checking on prices and sell through rate. Some Youtubers are saying you need to tweak the listings and not just sell similar. I like to keep picking and it’s plentiful here so gotta move out more of this inventory. I don’t have a warehouse or basement and definitely could use the money. I’m doing a gradual organization of my inventory and it’s clear that it’s growing.
I’m happy to say that I should finish the photos on the final estate sale items today. I’m not sure I can handle that volume picking on a regular basis but it was fun. I’m still backed up here looking at maybe 20-25 items to be listed in my work space.
@Sharon nice find!
@Craig sales were definitely not great for me either. According to Youtube we are not alone in this.
I had two sales of about 6 items from my parents’ set of china. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335095724486 sold for $35 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/235276361817 well used plates sold for $30. I’m proud of myself for getting this listed, as I brought it over to my house last year about this time and did not get it up.
I am still catching up from the two estate sales. I only went to the flea market last week. At one of the estate sales I found a rare antique plate similar to this one by this British artist. https://www.carters.com.au/index.cfm/item/1296491-royal-doulton-plate-dog-and-pipe-titanian-glaze-ware-cecil-aldin/ There are not a lot of comps where I can see the sold price but one sold on Ebay for $275.
I listed 46 items this week. @Amatino way to go with the regular listings. I don’t have my day job anymore, so my numbers are not like my old part-time numbers.
@Julie one of our local thrift chains went bananas a while back. They hire college kids who research everything online. They do markdowns but it’s annoying to shop there. No fun when there aren’t treasures lurking that nobody knows about. We only have one Goodwill and it’s heavy volume, with certain categories just removed and sent to the online center. The manager changes quite frequently but I like the current one and the hard goods vintage prices are actually ok there. I believe most clothes are fairly high for resale, but that’s true around town on clothes.@VT Congrats. Two boxes is great progress!
@Craig thanks. Yes, Ebay has the flexibility I need.
I really wish Ebay would put Terapeak on the app.
