Thank you for all the great advice everyone! I spent last night and early this morning sorting and made 3 piles; shelter donation, ebay and Savers (community thrift).
I put together a box of super cute jewelry and have already dropped them off at the homeless shelter so they can be given out for the holidays. BTW… I always ask at estate sales for items that I can donate to local shelters for the children. There is one near me that always has about 70 kids housed at any given time. People with sell you stuff very cheap or give you items for this purpose.
I organized a large bin to sell on ebay and have already dropped off surplus at Savers.
I love the idea of variety lots! and by the pound too! great ideas. Thank you everyone!
Thanks Jay! Great advice! Happy Holidays to you and Ryanne!
Thanks everyone for sharing. I enjoy the podcast and comments every week.
Brian’s Treasures… your sales always make me laugh. My ex husband and I were total music fanatics and audiophiles. We spent our weekends scouring east village record shops for rare and collectable alternative, industrial, alt-country, punk etc. artists. When we got divorced in 2001 we sold our 3,000+ collection of vinyl for 50 CENTS a record to a dealer. When I see your sold prices I realize if I had held onto to em…. prob. would have been at least 50k today… more even! LOL
Oh well… such is life. Happy Holidays everyone! CAT MOM (Liz) =^..^=
WOW! Thank you for all of your thoughtful and informative responses!
I will def. put a call in to my accountant tomorrow. I sort of freaked out with Paypal asking for my tax ID number to file a 1099 because I kept thinking I didn’t need to report especially if I am selling junk from my house at a loss.
I will just have to go back to all my sales over the past year and try to create some sort of records for them to the best of my ability. I make such a small amount selling junk it hardly seems worth all of this hassle! 😛
Thank you all! liz
Thank you for the responses. I did see that paypal only reports over 20k and sends 1099 for over 200 transactions. I am very clearly under 20k but must have sold 100 items along with transactions for shipping so that is what flagged my account.
I am going to call my accountant to see if i need to file a 1099.
I just need to figure out the records for the past year. thanks liz
Those are REALLY nice! How about pricing them really high and enjoying them until if and when they sell? What a great find! I would keep them for myself if I found them 🙂 – Liz
My husband and I are avid cyclists. On the weekends we go out for rides between 30-60 miles. We are always trying different routes and back roads on our rides and now we stop at yard sales and curb junk piles! We also do combined trail/road routes on our gravel bikes. This past Sunday we went off road and came across a large pile of kitchen items that looked like garage sale leftovers tossed out in preserved parkland.:-(
There were 2 Nordic cake pans that I couldn’t figure out how to bring home on my bike so yesterday I returned to grab the pans and see what else I could salvage to donate to the local church thrift store. So I’m going through this pile of stuff and I see “Made in France” on a pan. Turns out these items were from a serious baker’s home! I got 4 Le Creuset Pots and Pans, several Nordic holiday baking sheets, Wilton baking items, cast aluminum 3-D Professional holiday baking molds and filled 2 bins with more stuff I need to go through! These items were in NEW condition!
My husband and I were trying to figure out why these things were tossed? This is hundreds of dollars worth of cookware tossed in the woods. So strange!
Another hobby of ours is cleaning up our local woods. We have special carrier bags to haul out trash on foot but there was so much broken glass that i’ve contacted the town to pick up what I couldn’t take. There is a lot of wildlife here. I don’t want them getting cut up!
Cool scavenge! BTW we come across ALL SORTS of curbed stuff riding our bikes! Liz
Thanks guys! I ALWAYS obsess about my pricing and second guess myself! Thanks for the positive comments! Have a super weekend! Liz
SOLD! $1,400!
There were several that sold in the $1,000 range since the one for $2,000 sold. Mine also had a broken piece. Maybe should’ve listed it for more but after looking at the more recent SOLDS…priced mine at $1,400. Sold in about a week! Thanks for all of the input. Liz
Inglewood… Great idea about stuffing them with catnip!!!!!
gfd_622 … there actually was a “Nuts the Squirrel” still in the pkg. in the tub of beanie babies i got… but i LOVE squirrels and I immediately took him out of the pkg. He is SO cute sitting on my shelf!
I think I will list the whole lot. There are about 30 in their cardboard pkgs. Not sure about pricing yet, but I don’t want anyone to get ripped off either.
Thanks for all of the responses! Liz
Thanks for the responses! I picked up a large container of these things today in perfect condition! Will test the waters with one set priced high! Thanks again! Have a great holiday weekend! liz
Hello all! I am a fairly new very part time Ebay seller. It has taken me some time to figure out shipping and I’m still trying to get the hang of correctly pricing items. Still learning all the time from all of you. Thank you!
Here are some interesting items that I’ve sold recently:
“Liberace Cooks, Recipes From His Seven Dining Rooms”
I got this book from the discard bin at work. I looked at past sales and condition before I decided on $55 due to the fact that my copy was price clipped and had a really long gift inscription on the inside page. I wouldn’t want all that writing in a collectible book… but it sold quickly. In hindsight, I could’ve gotten more. In the future I will pay more attention to condition issues when doing comparisons. Sold $55
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3627018111361974 Schrade Knife Pamphlet
I had no idea how much this tiny pamphlet advertising the new Old Timer and Sharp Finger knives was worth. I really couldn’t find one like it so I priced it at $14.99 but unfortunately left “Make an Offer” on. I had listed it quickly late at night and was going to fine tune all of my listings in the morning. I woke up to a $10 offer and I countered halfway. Sold $12.49. Item found on floor next to discard bin at work.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/362728229964JR Ewing Dallas Southfork Ranch Signature Bourbon Whiskey Empty Glass Decanter
I never would have known that people buy these empty bottles unless I saw that Steve S. mentioned selling one in one of his videos (thanks Steve)! Anyway, my husband bought this for $2 nearly full at an estate sale and we enjoyed the contents. The bottle sold for $21.99. Sold to someone in Manhattan so shipped in a Regional rate box for about $7!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/362693158377I learn a lot from seeing what others have sold and their comments about their sales… it is very helpful. Thank you! Liz
Temudgin! Thank you so much! Info much appreciated! I will do more research and let you know what it sells for!
Wishing everyone a peaceful day! Liz
Jay, I thank you for your responses!
I answered hastily before because I needed to run out.
Anyway, there were no SOLDS on ebay but I did see sales on Worthpoint and an old auction estimate $700-$1,000. The item sold in 2013 for $350. That is what is making me wonder about correct pricing. Thanks again! Liz
Also… No, i haven’t seen any that have sold.
