Maryland has shut down schools. I am thankful because my 16 year old had Lyme disease and she is very vulnerable to respiratory infection. We saw this coming and are prepared. As far as business goes, I just need to make 1/3 of my normal sales to be ok. So far, so good.
I’m afraid if we tighten up return policies it will affect sales.
I’m starting to think that people on eBay think differently than the rest of the population. My sales have been slower, but not really that bad. It makes me wonder if people who have no problems with purchasing second hand goods have less qualms shopping for the same goods during times like these. Maybe they just know that the odds of a germ surviving on a package are slim. I really thought my sales would stop during this crisis, but they are only down by about 20%.

One of them currently pending is a $150 skirt that went to China. I have very little hope of seeing that back within the next four weeks or more depending on the coronavirus. Besides that, I’d say maybe four or five times a month people wait until the last moment to facilitate a return. I sell a lot of clothing.

It gives my buyer 6 weeks to rent my clothing. I think a collectibles customer knows if they want to keep something the moment they see it, but clothing is different. The customer can take it on a cruise, wear it to a wedding, or whatever and then return it 6 weeks later.

Am I the only one who thinks this is nuts?
02/27/2020 at 9:37 am in reply to: ebay Spring Seller Update is this Wed Feb 26, Town Hall Feb 25 #74488So I’m confused. If the buyer opens a return on the 30th day, how long do they have to actually return it?

My sales have been SO sluggish. October I was nailed with the item specifics debacle like everyone else. After I fixed 3,000 or so listings, my sales improved a bit. November and December were ok, but not spectacular. January 2020 was pretty good, but February? Awful. My inventory is good and I have BIN on everything. So in a last ditch effort to wake up my store I switched my PLs from 2% to 4% and finally things are selling again. I don’t think this is a coincidence. eBay is forcing pay to play and I am wondering what the magic percentage is to make them happy and my budget happy. It’s a mystery.

This doesn’t surprise me at all, but I don’t think it’s a true representation of eBay’s future. The dip this past quarter I think is because of the issue in October with the search fiasco. Many many sellers lots a ton of revenue during that time. It affected sellers for weeks which in turn affected eBay’s bottom line.
Welcome to our addiction. 🙂 And a nice high sale to start. Just wait until yard sale season. That’s when the fun starts.
Ok, so that brings me back to my original question. I can’t figure out what packaging is required for the 1-10 pound packages? That’s where I’m lost.
Super helpful. Thank you so much! Yes, it’s just the rates that have changed. And they have done so substantially. It’s very much worth it now for me to drop packages off at Fedex. It’s a bit of a drive for me.
I’m way up, 30%, but that’s because I stumbled across some valuable pottery that inflated my Q4 numbers to the tune of $3,250 over normal. That said, my sales have been strong and steady except Christmas week when it was all over the place.
Knowledge is your gateway to success in this business. It has taken me years to learn all the different places to look in a thrift store or a garage sale. I’ve watched countless bolo videos and have spent many hours in high end department stores familiarizing myself with brands. Devote time to learning what to look for. It will pay off in spades.
