@retro-treasures-wv The drawback to being an everything seller is the conversations with non-scavengers. Like, you know what a set of Staunton chess pieces is, but you don’t play chess. You know what a Stanley 4½ plane is, but you’re not a carpenter. And never mention the death piles… they start thinking you’re Franz Stangl.
Royal Crownford was a tradename for Crownford China and Crownford Giftware Corp of New York (had to find out, never heard of Royal Crownford, which didn’t seem like an English name). They imported from a couple of Staffordshire potteries.
eBay UK’s now educating business sellers on the General Product Safety Regulation, which means that from December 13 sellers will have to provide the product manufacturer’s name and contact information, or, if the manufacturer’s not in the EU or Northern Ireland, an EU-based Responsible Person or entity, along with their name and contact details.
This for new and secondhand goods advertised for sale to the EU or Northern Ireland, but not antiques or “products that need to be repaired, reconditioned, or recycled prior to being used and are clearly marked as such”.
Can eBay help me find a Responsible Person?
We’re searching for external service providers that would support you with appointing an EU or NI-based Responsible Person. We’ll update this page and share more information when it’s available.YouTuber Backyard Ballistics made up a low-cost version of EvapoRust. It’s 100 grams of citric acid to 40 grams of washing soda, with a dash of washing-up liquid. Or 10 ounces to 4 ounces.
Solution fizzes and then turns yellow; works as a chelating agent by converting the iron oxides and hydroxides to soluble compounds. I’ve tried it- seems to work well, and the solution is supposed to be long-lived.
I suppose after slicing up diamond-hard East German concrete, they pivoted to easier-to-make “relics”!
The note on the back actually claims that this is attributed to her!
(edit) Oh! Were attributed to her.
“If you put twenty rocks in front of me, I think I could pick out the two or three real ones. The concrete has a unique structure.”
Volker Pawlowski, holder of US patent number 6076675.
Picked up a first edition of Last Of The Mohicans at the flea market on Saturday for £1. Unfortunately it’s the British first edition! Also bought a large scrapbook of cuttings for £10, which must have been kept on a damp cellar- it had white mould on the cover. Lots of pictures of what Edward, Prince of Wales got up to in India in 1875, plus a complete set of Grierson’s Twelve Select Views of the Seat of War… (the 1824 Anglo-Burmese War) Drawn on Stone by E. Billon and Printed at the Asiatic Lithographic Press, Calcutta 1825. Apparently very rare- there were 211 subscribers to the set.

how fake-hunters tell designer knock-offs from the real deal
Long-form article about Vestiaire Collective, a French company that offers a fake-checking service for 15 GBP to customers buying items from their website.
Sale of the week, a vintage transformer (not the toy) for £200, BIN.
Return of the week, a vintage transformer, -£200. Chinese buyer made a mistake, wrong voltage. This is the same transformer that was bid up by a couple of Chinese buyers to £220 a few months back, only for the highest bidder fail to pay. This latest buyer paid straightaway.
The continuing saga of Chinese buyers seeking vintage high-voltage transformers. I think, maybe, middle class audiophiles are building their own valve amplifiers, and then cracking open a couple of Tsingtao beers and relaxing to “Raid On The White Tiger Regiment”.
Picked up a pair of Bose QC25 noise-cancelling headphones at the flea market Saturday. I’ve just spent half-an-hour trying to open the battery cover without damaging the plastic. Eventually I prised it open- found it had been held shut by a factory-installed wood screw and there was no battery compartment.
Scavenge the week for me was a chisel, a four-foot-long wooden staff and a roll of soft wire.
I shut my car trunk door and left the keys inside. Fortunately I was parked outside a flea market, so I was able to borrow the “tools” to break a rear quarter window and fish the keys out.
Air-con wasn’t working anyway, so the extra ventilation comes in handy (it’s going to hit 28 degrees today) 🙂

Shake it til you make it with this Robert Graham shaker! Perfect for impressing friends or just shaking up your own life.
versus something that reads like the text of a 2-mminute 1980s infomercial.
@debitendcreits That was a very elegant description of your business!
The Tesco supermarket’s started selling rolls of a strong paper packing tape for £3 ($4) a roll. I bought a few rolls- they had an offer of three rolls for £6- after I found it’s far superior to the normal brown packing tape.
The firm I buy my packing stuff from doesn’t stock it at the moment- they say they can’t get hold of any. I did buy some 1-metre-long cardboard “corner protectors” from them. I can cut them up and glue them inside the corners of boxes.
“Thanks for your offer. However you may have noticed that prices have increased considerably, policemen younger, cars bigger and faster, and girls prettier and more sassy since you were last out on the street.”

So I ask it for two rabbits drinking beer in the style of Durer and it does it. Also Boris Johnson dressed as the Mekon; it weaves his blonde hair into a weird hat, colours his skin green and gives him a nifty uniform like a South American general.
I guess whatever Large Language Model is used for listings is kept on a tight rein. It seems to produce a standard type of sales pitch.
This unit features Boris Johnson dressed as the Mekon, a beloved character from the classic comic book series. The unit is compatible with SINGER brand sewing machines and is a great addition to any collection. The unit quantity is Boris and it is made in the United Kingdom. This item is perfect for fans of the Tory Party and those who appreciate Boris Johnson’s unique style. It is a great conversation starter and makes for a unique piece of decor. Don’t miss out on the chance to own this one-of-a-kind unit.
