Its a lot of work for sure. Someday I would love to come and pick your brains for awhile. You guys are still getting crazy profit margins and like you said at the end of the day, like you said it only matters what goes in the bank.
02/27/2017 at 7:57 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 299: What Control Do We Have as eBay Sellers? #13411We had a good week also. We hit $5000.00 total sales plus shipping (clothing seller so lots of $15 sales). I wondered if the increase in sales had to do with tax refund checks starting to roll in?
02/23/2017 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 298: The Scavengers and The Collectors, A Love Story #13206Hey guys hoping you will see this. I don’t know where else to put it.
If you go to ebaymainstreet.com there is a petition to sign in regards to USPS increasing prices. This is the eBay government relations site and is by no means anti-USPS.
Just thought you might be interested. Hope you are having a great week!
Thank you all for sharing. I am still fighting warehouse space and employees. The fact is it may to come to that eventually and I appreciate you all sharing your processes
02/23/2017 at 7:48 pm in reply to: Daily Listings or Listing One Lump Sum Weekly- Does it Matter? #13204Some days I list a lot anddome days I don’t list any, both days I sell stuff. I agree with Jay it isn’t worth the time trying to figure out the algorithm. List what you can when you can and let the buyers find you.
02/21/2017 at 8:11 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 298: The Scavengers and The Collectors, A Love Story #12975Oh one more show note, we do numbered bins. While occasionally we do get items stuck in the wrong bin and it sucks we have a process for that. If I am listing into bin A1 today and it is full then I will move to the bin adjacent to it. That way if I do make a mistake and put the wrong bin number in the listing at least I know I won’t have to go through every item listed to find it. I would guess that when you guys go to an inventory system you are going to find lots of items that have fallen off of ebay and are no longer even listed. It is going to be a long arduous process but one that will find lots of items that could be making you money. So in the end it will be profitable.
02/21/2017 at 8:06 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 298: The Scavengers and The Collectors, A Love Story #12974Good morning! We had a good weekend in sales that has us shipping out 110 packages this morning. Just like you, I still ship items one at a time. I have mixed up too many items to do it any other way. I hate that by doing it this way I can’t give my mail carrier a scan sheet and he will have to scan 110 items today, but the mixed up packages is too big of a risk.
On a side note I love that you guys continue to share the ups and downs of this life. I continue to point everyone I can to this podcast and forum. It is in my opinion the best place for honest advice/talk with so many people now joining in to share their expertise. Thank you for continuing to do it!

I thought it might be PC only. You guys could create some basic templates directly within Ebay. That could help some but I don’t think that works with the app. So the way you are currently doing it is probably the fastest. With 3 of you listing though how much more would you want to list in a day? I bet you guys hit 1000 items in a month long before I do!
Mike –
Thanks for the tip! I’ll watch out for that.
02/06/2017 at 1:55 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 296: Are You Keeping Up With Your Inventory System? #11883Hey guys! Good week here after a lot of listing. I have set the goal of 1000 completely brand new listings in the month of February. I’m not sure we will get it done but we are certainly going to try. The hardest part is finding 1000 items to list. Sometimes I wish I had death piles.
Anyhow I use Sixbit and absolutely love it. You can do inventory management from it although like I am sure you guys know the idea of going through old inventory and assigning it an inventory number seems like a huge job and we only have 1500 items! So, I am still doing inventory the way I always have. The benefit for me with Sixbit is speed of listing. There is no spinning blue circle, no issues with Ebay being down, it also has one of the best photo editors around. You can also access old listings that have already sold, so say you found those same knives a year from now you could grab your old listing and just relist it. There is a definite learning curve to it though and I don’t know if it is available for Mac. If you guys have any questions feel free to send me an email and I can show you screenshots of my process.
Hope you guys have a great week!
01/18/2017 at 8:06 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 293: How To Hire Your First Employee #10613I think if you have someone send a question you can add pictures to the response and then save it to the listing. You might try that.
01/17/2017 at 12:59 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 293: How To Hire Your First Employee #10529Hey guys! Always enjoy listening to Jay create a visual picture of things, loved hearing what you think Ebay customer service is like!
Couple of things that might be of interest to the people here.
1. Ebay is going to offer an authentication program on designer items. While this probably doesn’t effect you guys it does help to build more buyer trust in the site which I think will help us all. http://pages.ebay.com/authentication/
2. Have you guys looked into the Ebay Partner Network? It is like the amazon affiliate program but for ebay. The thing I like about it is I can tell from it which social media outlet is driving traffic by using an affiliate link on one site but not another for a day. It has been interesting to see what is really driving traffic. Plus a couple extra dollars here or there never hurt anyone!
Have a great week!!

Good morning!
So funny to hear you guys are trying free shipping again. As soon as I said on here that I hate free shipping (still stand by that) somethings happened that got us thinking maybe we should try it again. So, we turned back on the free shipping. I am back to yelling I hate free shipping! The issue we have found is that when you have BO on your items you get so many more offers that you just can’t take because of the free shipping.
Anyhow ended up being a solid week here. It has been a roller coaster though. We had a day where we didn’t even break $200 and the very next day we were over $1000. Just goes to show that you can’t get discouraged about one bad day.
We are working on 2017 goals here. Would love to hear you guy’s goals for 2017!
Have a great one!

12/12/2016 at 3:35 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 288: The War Of Attrition Will Not Grind Us Down #7902Hey guys!
Solid week. Working like crazy people!
Couple of points –
Love our white board! If it doesn’t get on the board it doesn’t get done!
Hate free shipping! I will try anything once. We tried free shipping for six months to give it a solid try. I think it works if you don’t have best offer. We found that people submitting offers would offer the same amount whether it had free shipping or not. At the end of the day, the profit margins went down with free shipping. I realize that we may be missing out on the people that are clicking “free shipping”, but profit margins have to trump all.
Sold listings are not always accurate! Remember that ebay does not show best offers. On the PC it will at least show “best offer accepted” but the app doesn’t even show that. You have to use a third party to see what it actually sold for and those third parties are usually 48-72 hours behind. Just an FYI.
Lastly the best thing we can all do to help each other is to become more frequent buyers. If every seller would become a buyer we would all be more successful. The problem we are seeing is that there has been an influx of sellers but those sellers aren’t also buyers. If you are an ebay seller the first place you should shop is ebay in my opinion.
Have a great week!

12/06/2016 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7357I don’t know how it is sustainable either, but I fear we haven’t seen the bottom yet. If I was a betting girl I would say clothing at least is going to get worse before it gets better. The race to bottom is in full swing.
12/06/2016 at 12:34 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7334Yes, net profits on similar items that we were selling as recently as this past spring are down. We have to sell twice as many of those same items for the same bottom line profit. A shift out of clothing may be in order. I am not 100% positive how we will move forward. The market is just so saturated that unless you have a warehouse with employees, or are happy making $1-2 per item I’m not sure how exactly it works.
