Wow. Just… wow!
An interesting rabbit hole, and I’m so glad I didn’t invest money going down it!
Thanks guys!
Mike – you piqued my interest and now I’m baffled. I did a search on frames on eBay to see if there was any market there for the impressive collection of old frames I’ve built up and… not really! There are SOME frames that have a good price, usually because they’re interesting and unusual or made of some expensive materials. But generally, frames aren’t really worth much at all.
So, in your comment about how you normally strip a picture for its frame, is it because you still do framing and it’s part of that business, or are you selling the frames on eBay?
No, I didn’t. I did, however, try to inject a teeny bit of humor into a thread that, instead of celebrating change, was becoming rather grim.
Stealing mail is usually prosecuted as larceny and CAN be prosecuted as a federal crime, ranging from a misdemeanor to a felony… The penalty for theft or receipt of stolen mail is imprisonment not more than 5 years or a fine or both in accordance with 18 U.S. Code Β§ 1708.
The Texas law now makes it a straight up felony and ups the imprisonment to ten years. If the other laws did any good, we would not have the massive increase in package theft.
And if you don’t live in Texas, keep your opinions buttoned, mister. I happen to know that EVERY state has its weird ones! π
Yay! Just passed my Death Pile listing goal for this week, so now I can go list new stuff.
Interesting side effect on tidying up my space – it still feels odd to have it all so neat and tidy next to me, but… (humans are never satisfied!) … I’m now looking at the new, neat shelves and thinking
“Do I really need that? Could I get rid of some things?”All I have is a basket of miscellaneous, like tape, highlighters, staple remover, a mug of pens, my gold testing kit, a box of business cards for the hubby’s business, a ruler, some staples, a box of tissues, and my acrylic photo aids. Unless I whittle down the miscellaneous, like only having one roll of tape, no, not really, I’m stuck with what I have! But it feels so gooood to have it all clear!
Do you think I’ve contracted minimalitis?
LOL. My sense of humor comes from my Dad. He had a brief stint selling odd items from the back of a truck, back in the day where getting rid of a load of some odd item was a bit more difficult than lotting it up on eBay. One afternoon, he had a load of toilet paper. His spiel was:
“Toilet paper – today only in four sizes: large, medium, small, and eeeeugghhhh!”
π
Hey Mike, thanks for the input. Yes, I knew they were prints, but I didn’t know the dreadful output of these things. 20,000! Sheesh!
Normally I don’t do art. I just don’t have a large enough art background or enough knowledge. I’ve only listed a few art pieces that I was given and this is another set that was just dumped in my lap as part of an enormous box lot. If the art is boring, framing is crappy, or both, I just pass it on to good old Goodwill. If it’s not really crappy, per se, but still doesn’t make me happy, I pass it on to the local thrift store, where they’re more discerning about the quality of crap they accept. These two are beautifully framed, really lovely job, and I thought the prints were very attractive. I was wondering who the artist was for keywords, not for any expectation of value, to be honest. I’ve unpacked a few prints where the prints were awful but the frames were magic. However, when they’re framed as well as these two, I like to leave them as is. These frames are heavy and feel like good quality. It would break my heart to take them apart! π But now I’ll consider it.

Spreadsheet updated. Vintage Treasures slides in with a well deserved win.
Sharyn, wanna join this nuthouse and chuck in a gauntlet too? We may as well ALL be running around without a glove! π
If you scroll through the album (hover mouse over it, the > will appear to let you move to the next pic) you will see two prints and two signatures, same artist. I thought perhaps one of the sigs would be easier to read, so included both.
*small voice* You win, VT!
*evil cackle* but now I haz goooooooooals! π
Vintage Treasures, I’m going to send you a pair of pom poms – you are my most amazing Cheerleader. Honestly, you always make me feel like I’ve climbed Everest. You’re such a boost to my ego! I truly appreciate you!
I spent this weekend clearing my desk and two shelves of my bookshelf next to my desk. I went though everything and either did the research and created a draft for the item/s, or decided it wasn’t worth listing and it went to a donate pile – outside in the garage in a box ready to go. I didn’t want it to just sit there waiting to be donated, I’m being proactive! My desk is now holding only those items that I created drafts for, and they will be photographed and moved out on Monday. With 17 drafts and everything cleaned and ready for photographs, I should make my goal this week.
The two shelves have been allocated and packed correctly; one is for stationery and business cards, the other holds paper racks on which the paperwork for each particular business is neatly put away. For example, I have reference works for eBay on one rack, dance information on another rack, the sewing machine invoices on another, and so on. It feels rather Stepford Wives-ish at the moment, but I’m loving it and keep stealing admiring glances! LOL.
While on this tidy-up mojo, I also tidied up and put away a huge pile of fabric. I have a loveseat again! The hubs walked in, looked around for a beat, and asked “are you going on a Minimalist kick?”
No, but I do have my own Personal Cheerleader keeping me motivated!Well, then, color me corrected! π Number of listings, it will be then, not number of items listed.
Sharyn, I will put that in the new thread.
For last week, I listed 14. Barely squeaked in enough for my Death Pile challenge. So I spent this weekend clearing my desk and 2 shelves and creating drafts of the items ready to photograph on Monday and list next week. I have 17 drafts, so if I can get it all listed, I will not only make my DP Challenge, but beat this week’s number. Woot woot! (Nudge and wink for Vintage Treasures to get a move on!) π
In honor of Father’s Day tomorrow, here are some awful Dad jokes!
Why don’t you hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom?
The P is silentSee that farmer?
A man outstanding in his fieldDid you see that documentary about beavers?
What a great dam showTermite walks into a bar and asks
“Is the bar tender here?”Did you get a hair cut?
No, I got them all cut. That graveyard is so popular, people are dying to get in!
You know, I was named after Shakespeare?
Yes, my name is Scott, but I was named after Shakespeare.Happy Father’s Day to all Dads!
Moving over to this thread to discuss this and not cluttering up the Listing Challenge:
Not remembering the steps and then realizing I can’t even work on Step #1 was a bit of a downer!
I think I’m going to stay with my 10-a-week goal for now, but I’m going to work at making the items I’m listing those that surround my desk space. I have a full set of shelves next to my desk which are supposed to be for my office supplies and stuff. Instead, they’re packed full of death piles. My desk itself can only be partially used because it’s loaded with death pile items. Under my desk are boxes and boxes and boxes. Okay… one of those boxes is all my tax paperwork, which also needs my attention… but only ONE of those boxes!
In front of my desk on the floor are more Death Piles. On the opposite side of this side of the room is my sewing area and it’s piled up the walls with…. projects! Ha! Gotcha. π It has some partially completed projects and a whole lot of I-need-to-get-to=this projects that are mostly piles of fabric with costumes or clothes in mind. I’ve tried to keep DP items out of there. That being said, I have decided that I’m going to sell some fabrics that no longer have my approval, so it’s possible that it could be considered a partial DP.
So… it’s mid-June now. My new goal is to list a minimum of 10 Death Pile items per week, and to concentrate on clearing my office space of DP items. I must either have them listed or donated by the end of July. Then I shall have Step #1 of the 8 Easy Steps ready to go:
1. Remove all items from your listing area except for the one item youβre listing. Have a dedicated listing space.
I made my goal of 10 items for this week, stayed up until 10PM to get it done!
