LOL. We have the same thing! Google Maps always sends folks to the top of the mountain to get to our house*. Now, technically, they’re not wrong, as we own the top of the mountain (or a portion of it) but the road to get there has a different name to ours. Our road is maintained, by us, but that road is not maintained at all. Nobody really uses it, so we don’t bother to take the blade up there, and it blows us away when we see people going up there. If you’re in a standard sedan on a bad road, climbing the side of a mountain, WTF are you THINKING? But they do…
*We ALWAYS tell folks to turn off their map service when they turn off the highway and to follow our directions. We also tell them there is NO cell signal anywhere in an eight mile radius. For some reason, a lot of people tend to think we’re lying. Go figure!
Good point, Jay. I’m not originally from the States, so I didn’t think of that. She’s in the U.K., which has a lot of similar perspectives, rather than the Philippines where their lives are completely different. As her research would only be to create drafts, I figured that First World is First World, no matter what side of the Pond you’re on. I get to check the drafts, so could make adjustments as necessary. Of course, some items would need to be left to me.
No, my inventory is very eclectic, and research is one of my most fun areas (after sourcing) but I figured she might be able to take the boring off my hands. For example, I have Christmas ornaments that I swear are copulating every time I turn the lights off. I’m fairly certain they’re all the same, but on the off chance one is a winner. I have to look each one up. I’ve scored a couple winners, out of a couple dozen boxes. And if I hit on a hat haul, like mprw77 did, for sure I’d make her do the work! 😀
Zero for me, last week of zeroes as I was working on taxes. They’re all done now, woot!
And I sewed some placemats. Anyone who has ever picked up some hand made, quilted placemats and said “They want how much?” please know they’re probably underpriced. The fabric alone (pieced top, batting, backing, binding) came to about $40. Then there’s the cost of a new cutter blade, a full spool of thread (I used a new spool and I’m almost out), the electricity and cost of the machine and servicing, and about 14 hours of labor for a set of four mats. It might be more hours, I’m guesstimating, as I’ve only finished three. I suddenly understand those prices!
Wow, that’s just fabulous. Very nice.
Thanks for the update, Joe, and it sounds like you’re doing so well! Huge congrats on your new life.
You forgot to tell us what you ended up doing about storage/inventory. You mentioned working out of the garage, and having a container, and maybe building something. What was the end result?
$99.99 sold Dec 2017.
Cool find!
Spreadsheet updated.
07/08/2020 at 9:44 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 470: How Would You Start Your Business Today? #79242@Lukastreasuretrove What are your favorite online auction sites? And do you use those close enough to drive to for pick up, or do you have your wins shipped to you?
Whoop y’all! Hope it was a rockin’ 4th for you! I neither listed, nor turned my store back on as I am still working on my quarterly taxes. It’s one thing doing the annual, it’s a whole ‘nuther animal working out quarterlies. Don’t like it.
“Dear IRS. I received your request for a tax form. I’d like to request you unsubscribe me from this service. I don’t know who signed me up, but I don’t want to be part of your group!” 😉Well done, Julie B and… you win the week! \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/
Spreadsheet updated. Christmas in July Challenge on the go.
Does anyone want to take the August Challenge?
I’ve successfully sold compression socks, so that’s really odd. Check to see if you’re using the wrong category?
Otherwise, this is another new change in eBay. Sigh…Easy Auction Tracker is only $50 per year and worth every penny. It’s easy to use and you can log all your expenses. In my opinion, grab it and start using it from now, if only to keep a track for your own benefit. I started using it when I got to 250 items and wished I had started sooner
Thanks VL. Good catch.
I blame the meds! 😀
Okay, only 3 participants in the draw for the June Challenge. Numbering in alphabetical order
1. ChristineR
2. Sharyn
3. Vintage LacyI used Random.org’s Roll Dice feature, selected 1 die, and rolled a four, then a six, then a one
https://www.random.org/dice/?num=1ChristineR wins the June Challenge!
Then I rolled a five, and a one again, and a two!
Sharyn gets second place, VL gets third. Have updated the spreadsheet with the results.
I cover pictures with tissue, then bubble wrap, couple layers. Then thick box sheets front and back that are marginally bigger than the frame, then wrap with packing cling film. Then bubble wrap, more bubble wrap, and then box surrounded by peanuts. I layer the box with the “egg” side of egg cartons and fill with peanuts, lay the art down, fill with peanuts until the sides are covered, layer with egg cartons and fill with peanuts. I’ve shipped glass-framed art successfully. It’s not as heavy as double boxing, but effective. If you layer two or three sheets of boxes, they’re almost impossible to bend. I save all my big boxes and cut them down for this.
So sorry you’re unwell, VT. After six months off, I totally empathise. Sending you best wishes for healing fast and not feeling awful until you do.
Thanks for posting the July Challenge. It will be a good one for me to start on now that I”m getting back to work.
