Hi Daniel, good luck with your exercise. I’ve got the same rule: don’t buy until the Death Piles are gone! Only… some days it’s hard to resist! LOL. My DPs number in the 1,000s, can’t wait to get down to only 300 items!
My inventory system started out as a number in a box on a shelf, e.g. R1B1#123 (item #123 in box 1 on rack 1) but it got unwieldy fast! So now I changed to an alphanumeric system that has proven extremely simple, easy, fast, and failsafe (touch wood!) I created categories that were assigned letter. So A=Auto, B=Books/puzzles/board games, C=Caps and hats, etc. Then I bought some Avery 8160 labels and created a page in each category: A001; A002; A003; A004, etc. I have one of those books made of clear plastic pockets and slipped the pages into a pocket. The book stays in my listing area.
Once I’ve done listing photos, I place the item into a plastic bag for storage, slap a label onto it and then cover the label with a quick strip of packing tape (so that the label doesn’t fall off if it stays in storage for a while) and snap a photo of the label and the weight of the item for the listing.
On the outside of my storage totes, I put the numbers of a category. So the first box is labeled A1-…. and I wait until the box is full and put the last number in (e.g. A1-A43). The next box is then labeled with the first number of the next set (per last e.g. A44-…)
Wow, it’s a lot longer to type this out than actually do it! Takes seconds to do!
For storage purposes, it’s easy to combine boxes. I just combine two boxes and change the numbering on the outside label. Every item is individually numbered, and I just put the totes in order on the shelves. Finding my item takes mere seconds.
Perfect system for my goldfish-sized attention span!
Ok, zero for me again this week. However, I’m done with all the stuff that took me away from eBay (for now) and will have some numbers to put up next week. Hope y’all had a better listing week than I did!
Vintage Lacy, report! How did your show fare?
Another idea proposed by Suzanne A. Wells is to use Scheduled Listings. There’s no limit on how many you have, and you can change the scheduled date if you run out of time.
I use canned food as pattern weights, but I’ve had my eyes peeled for some of these monsters for quite a while! I’m such a scavenger, to actually pay full dollar seems… wrong! 😀
Add in the keywords “pattern weight” or “sewing pattern weight”. These large nuts are very popular as pattern weights, esp. in the DIY crowd.
LOL. I was just thinking the same thing about my listing forecast. I’m due to slow down on the non-eBay stuff in June. June! Well, at least we’ll be loaded and ready for the Fall and Winter sales run! 😀
Good luck, Vintage Lacy. Wish I could be there!
Congrats on the week, everyone. We’re slogging along slowly. Inch by inch, we win the race. Yard by yard, it’s very hard! 😉
ChristineR, check out our points! I’m down 0 for 2 so far this week in terms of listing days, and have to go to work tomorrow, then have medical on Thursday, so it’s 0 for 4 unless I start sleeping for a hobby. But I gotta get the next point!!! LOL
Just waiting for ice_queen and Vintage Lacy. KatieScott hasn’t posted in 3 weeks now, so I guess she has dropped out. That means ice_queen is a twin again, moving to join Marjean.
Marjean, there’s no penalty for not listing DP. The idea is to clear the DPs, so listing current means you’re not adding more to the DP, which is kinda clearing it, right? LOL. You’re still pounding us in terms of numbers!
Will put up the YTD this evening, giving ice_queen and Vintage Lacy a chance to update.
Nice job, aperture!
My stands are very similar. My husband built them for me over a year ago and I use them constantly. The only change I would make, if I could, would be to get fixtures with covers over them, like the covers in ceiling fluorescents, you know? The lights tend to show up as lines on reflective surfaces and covers would act like diffusers. The one change I did make was to switch to LED tubes. Game changer! 🙂
I don’t have castors on mine though. The hubs thought that it would make it too easy to tip over. Seeing as I’m a Grade A Klutz some days, I figured he might be right! LOL
+1
LOL. Don’t feel lonely, Sharyn, I join you in the Zero bucket! This past week I was swamped with my classes and prep and homework, as well as the leg problem mentioned before, so the only eBaying I did was sending out orders!
It’s going to be very difficult for me to make any kind of listing dent until June. I am loaded with classes, start a new part-time position on Wednesday, and have a Student Showcase coming up that takes hours of planning, prep work, and herding of people (much harder than herding cats!) Thank fates it’s all over on June 2nd, which is a Saturday. I can rest on Sunday and then really get stuck into eBay on the Monday. (She says, fingers crossed!) 🙂
In my opinion, you have 10 days to apply for an extension. There’s no penalty and you do not “set yourself up for an audit” if you do. Then you have until October to find someone to help you with your taxes. Take a deep breath, and go find some help.
On Facebook, there is the Accounting for Online Sellers group. AARP also offers free Tax Assistance.
04/07/2018 at 8:01 pm in reply to: Do you have a source for replacement photo tent backdrops? #37288I use faux suede. It’s an awesome backdrop and only needs to be brushed clean when necessary. You can find it cheaply online or at thrift stores. Comes in a variety of colors. Lasts for years!
My listings state “All items are stored in a climate controlled smoke free environment.” And I agree entirely with your position. I would play the J&R card: state that you take returns for any reason, that you will happily accept her return and offer a full refund on the intact return of the garment, then go silent. Seeing as you have already made the offer, go dark. Do not respond. Do not engage. Either she uses the eBay mechanism to trigger a return/refund/claim, or she eats it.
Stand your ground. I’d be annoyed too, in your position, but I’d just let it go and let her stew, not get involved in anything. Thank goodness for this forum! It’s my sanity, some days! 🙂
