Thrilled to have you join us Vintage Lucy. You’re now twinned with Sharyn.
In answer to your question, Sharyn, I use the DP percentage as part of the points system. For example, one week you were the only one with 100% DP listings, so you got one point for that week, although ChristineR had the highest numbers for the week. So she won the week’s challenge, but you got a point for the YTD challenge. But for the YTD, to do a running %age is becoming a bit of a math headache. Running the points system is easier.
For those of you who are interested, try this site: http://translate.naver.com/#/zh-CN/en
When you click on the little pen icon on the bottom left, you can actually draw the Asian symbol/letter that you’re wanting translated. Obviously your drawing is not brilliant using a mouse instead of a pen, but I found it surprisingly accurate at “guessing” what I was after.
YTD Running Totals after Week 4
Winner this week: Amatino.
YTD:
ChristineR Listed 100
Sharyn Listed 119
Amatino Listed 73YTD Winner: Sharyn
You’ll note I dropped the DP %ages. It was turning into a math nightmare. Hope that’s okay.
I’ve been consistently listing (thanks to the Twins Challenge) and have never gone through a consistent listing period without sales…until now. I’m about to hit 500 in my store and have had only one sale in the last 10 days.
Thanks for posting ice_queen. I was beginning to think it was only me. I’ll keep listing and wait it out.
Week #4.
#items listed: 37
#items from Death Piles: 7
%age DP: 19%
New Inventory purchases $48Best listing week so far, but very few from DP. I got a lucky break on Monday and scored a bunch of RA items for only $1 each, and listed them all to avoid any carrying forward to a new Death Pile. So my entire inventory purchase for the week has been listed, as well as a few DPs. I’m happy.

LOL. It does if you strip the computers and sell the parts! 😀 That’s what I did with my donated PC’s. I was given about 8 of them, and they took up two shelves, just sitting there, like giant dust bunnies, sniggering at me. I kept putting off listing them, daunted by the amount of info I would need to list the accurately and the idea of the entire shipping process and cost. Eventually, it dawned on me that they could be parted out. Mother boards, sound cards, modem cards (they were that old), DVD drives, floppy drives, RAM cards, power supplies, and case fans, all listed in lots. The sound cards went the same day, the mother boards went next. The scrap metal from the cases went to recycling. Cleared my shelves, got some new sales, and added to my DP for last week. WIN! Woot woot!
You got a teenager and a screwdriver handy?
Sharyn, what are you doing with the stuff you buy at the Auctions? Are you going to put it aside and only work on your DPs?
Perhaps I should have explained that DPs are anything you had in stock at the end of last year. New items purchased this year are new stock and won’t be Death Piles until next year.
I’m trying to list my items purchased this year within a month of purchase so that I never add to any Death Pile. So far, so good. Only have about six items that I bought this month that I haven’t listed yet. Woot woot!
Wait… if I wipe out my DPs this year, I won’t be able to participate in a Challenge next year! 🙁
Oh well. I’ll think of a new challenge then! Yay!

Well done, ladies, great going! You’re setting the bar high for me. 🙂
Hmm…. The Edit Goblin gobbled again, it seems!
Week #3.
#items listed: 21
#items from Death Piles: 21
%age DP: 100%
New Inventory purchases $0Those ^ are mine. Slowly getting my listing numbers up!
An update on the square photograph option with my new camera. LOVING it! For some reason, I’m able to “fill the square” much more efficiently so that my close ups look very close and detailed. A huge plus with those teeny tiny thumbnails they have in search.
Also, I’m able to center the photos much more efficiently and can see the “end result” while I’m actually taking the photographs. I’ve found that my photo editing is going a lot faster now.
My final step is upping my light to get better exposures. I’ve done the white balance and exposure adjustment, but I’ve noticed that if I add a lot more light, I don’t need to edit those at all. Unfortunately my current set up doesn’t allow for a lot more light, so I’ll be adding some new sunlight LED to my fluorescent stands and putting a short LED light bar directly above my photo station for downlight. Final step will be light boxes. 😀
If anyone wants to join in, please feel free. You’ll be paired up on an First In First Paired basis. It’s not about sales, or how many items you have in your store, it’s about listing and Death Piles. How many items did you list this week? What percentage of them are DP items?
I personally find it very motivating! Every week it’s in the back of my head that I’ve got to keep listing and hitting those DPs. I’m loving this Challenge!
You can get diamond testers really cheaply on eBay
This week I had a $5 offer on an $8 item, a vintage set of plastic salt & pepper shakers. I accepted it bc I was, frankly, just eager to get rid of the item.
To my surprise and amusement, the buyer wrote to me to advise that he thought this had free shipping and was somewhat taken aback that eBay expected him to pay for shipping. Honestly, he made a $5 offer on an $8 item and expected both to be free shipping?
I replied with a brief outline of how calculated shipping works, explained that the Chinese have a special agreement, but as I’m American I don’t get the discount, and that he was welcome to cancel the sale if he wished. I was very polite. He paid immediately.
Sometimes I think buyers just don’t understand how shipping works. Amazon has spoiled them.
Love these, Sigilini. Can almost hear my Jewish friend saying them! Oy vey! 😀
