Crafting Challenge! We shall see!07/30/2018 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 371: T-Satt (Troy) Reports on eBay Open #46432Yes, nice to hear your sales are up as well over there. Eager to see what’s happening. I should state that my increase comes with no sales or promos, and no significant change in what I’m listing. And only now some normally eBay bound higher priced items are going to go up on there.
Been gut listing on Etsy for sometime now, keeping the kettle warm so to speak, waiting for them to make some tea. And admittedly I do enjoy the shift in gears at Etsy regardless of the more modest profits.07/30/2018 at 9:33 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 371: T-Satt (Troy) Reports on eBay Open #464047/22 – 7/28/18

Number of items listed this week: 29Something seems to be happening with my etsy store. All manner of stuff has been selling these past two weeks. Sales are about 4X better than previous 2 1/2 months, still small numbers but much better small numbers. Etsy get more of my lower end stuff, and stuff that does a bit better over there than on eBay.
Etsy will air its first ever television ads tomorrow night on NBC’s 10/9c premiere of ‘Making It’. It’s like a craft challenge show of some sort, supposed to be light hearted enough. What else could it be?! Amy Poehler is one of the two hosts so that alone should make it interesting. I’m beginning to list some of my better things on Etsy. Might as well load $torpedoes$ in high hopes this cool little platform will finally bump up something noticeable.7/22 – 7/28/18

Number of items listed this week: 2Etsy sales were much healthier than usual, especially since I feel the sold prices were slightly higher than what I believe I could get on eBay. Some of the sold items I simply would not have listed on eBay at all.
I paid $25 on the sold set of vintage Gerber knives. Research showed the knives topping out around $50 sold on eBay, yet I picked up $60 on Etsy Shortly after listing. $25 was too much to pay for resale, but being a Gerber guy from waaaay back, I could not resist the buy and happy for the fast flip to recoup the $25 spent, and grab some profit.Main Street!
This is amazing truly exciting news!

Number of items listed this week: 14Interestingly, although perhaps this has happened year to year and I just never knew it, my fancy Diecast model car sales have fallen hard flat.
Also, shocking to see how low sales were this week, although I do recall sloooow times during deep summer other years back. I just did not do the weekly numbers during those ignorant days to really see it.
The big news is what’s happening down on Main Street…The funny thing is, I always thought I was just a mainstream eBay seller with my toys, junks and weirds! Well it’s always best to be elite with good company watching each other’s backs!
Numbers first, then right over to another great podcast and thanks again!

One good thing about consignment is it forces you to learn about other areas and categories. I’ve dropped all but one consignment relationship, and the one I still have is now very specialized.
Because of consignment, when I go scavenging, there is much more out there I am knowledgable enough about to purchase for profit now. It was a stepping stone, and a practical one for a scavenger with a full time job. I’m thankful for the sales, but no more except for the one! I have Jay to thank. When you see your numbers you wake up and see that it just does not make good money sense.6/24 – 6/30/18

I like the, “We’re now doing it because we’re just good students in class”, comment!!
I enjoy the adrenaline pump of getting up early and shipping before my regular job, it has to get done, no procrastination! It’s also a hoot to hole up in the garage with an excuse to listen to Misfits, Bad Brains, and others while packing several boxes for shipment the next day, crazy prosperity! Even on Etsy, I have 1-2 day handling yet 90% of my stuff goes out 1 day. It’s just good customer service unless your melting down, so then, what’s the sense if you’re toast! So, we shall see what the Holidays bring as I’m beefing up both stores and still work at least 40 at the regular job.
As for free returns, nope, just isn’t right, something fundamentally wrong there, perhaps when the whole big thing completes its turn I’ll jump on board but not now.
My feeling currently is, more buyers will look for and shop the Guaranteed 3 day, the TRS badge does matter, even without the plus. And I agree, 10% is a weak incentive, although I am watching and listening to others. The kind of buyers who shop for Free returns are not necessarily the ideal buyers I want to sell to, not with my bric a brac, old toys and yesterday items.
