I make a habit of asking for eBay gift cards come birthday, Father’s day, Christmas. I will then normally buy lots on eBay and sell pieced out on Etsy, or just stock up on shipping supplies and vacation away from the dumpsters. I don’t need much ‘stuff’ for me. It becomes a mission to use the gift cards and use them right to make the most profit. And, a great way to breeze through some of the longer computer slave hours at the regular job. I know I’m not alone here!
Great podcast, and requires another less distracted listen. I know you guys ask that we do eBay related tasks while listening. Yet the shows that really speak to me require a second listen and with a more focused ear to not miss the gems. Not alone again I’m sure!

Etsy nosedive, eBay quiet, some cool little sales however with very minimal COGS, so no doomsday bells. Going to pack some decent sales from yesterday with the podcast keeping company!
Thanks again!eBay store totommyto

Great sales from everyone this week! Learned a couple of things, and wished I had found a few of those items that are buzzing on my radar! A lackluster week of sales for me last week. I’ll share a something sold from eBay and from Etsy.
Nothing unusual about a 1800’s roached out Steamer Trunk, but this one is a bit smaller at 24 inches across, and 23 pounds. After buying and buying just about everything a favorite flea vendor showed me, I said yes to this little beast too and kept things flowing. I paid $10, hoping to just flip it same day for $20. I decided to list it and it sold a few weeks later for Best Offer $75. Only $65 to ship from Fl to CA by FedEx Home Delivery; FedEx my new best friend.

Having sold them before, I knew I was going to make some money for little effort. Paid $1, sold for $30 in a couple of weeks on Etsy.

Temudgin, the shark business card holder is awesome, seems rare.I have had ONE ebay sale all week so far! The last time this happened, I did close to $1,000 the following day with multiple sales. Hope history can repeat itself! Etsy has not lost a beat though, for Etsy. Sometimes its just weird quiet.
Thank you Ryanne for hosting, and thanks again Steve.
It must have been fun rolling that bull amp for taping! I know I received a good workout just dealing with half that weight last week! I love how the way you push those shipping barriers, and learn the little nuances, especially with those !one inch! near misses!
Some interesting sales:Two vintage Lyon Aurora stackable cabinet drawers. I shoulder carried these out of a busy flea market after paying $16. Jay’s NY free books on the shoulder city walk would be a similar picture! When your heart’s pumping over a great find, nothing gets in the way! Took a best offer of $175 after a very nice buyer convinced me to ship, and I convinced myself to make an extra $60 from that shipment.

Nice to note is the learning curve. Two years ago, my son literally found a big cabinet full of these wooden trays on the street. I sold at least 15 on Etsy and eBay, starting at $52 and finding a sweet selling spot at $80. Without the right box and good packing materials, they are a small bear to ship. If you find one with original handle and with all of the little sections intact, you are in business. I sold off additional broken ones to a flea vendor, but not after removing the handles and selling them for around $15 each.
One sold a couple of days ago on Etsy. We have three trays remaining to sell.

These five pairs of Barbie shoes from the 60’s sold for $50 on Etsy. Because I underestimated, and have already long accounted for COGS with this lot, I look at every sale now as a bonus at zero cost.

Sell through rate for the week: 0.6Steve, my knock off Madball footballs are new & deflated in the bags, they were sold that way. not sure about the real Super Madballs.
Well, if Space stuff might gather interest soon, I’m stacked with miniature overpriced one shots on Etsy!A sale I’ll never forget was a worn Zippo EMPTY little box, earliesh mid century, picked out of a ‘junk’ basket for 25 cents, sold for $65 a few years back.
Sharon,
Pretty cool sale on the D&D cards and LOVE the bonus Caddie patch sale. The Pilates chair will make an AWESOME funky plant stand for your buyer come mid March or so!Hi Ryanne, thank you for hosting another one of Steve’s outstanding ‘What Sells”!
Steve, The Super Madballs jumped right out at me, found a cache of them, and have been enjoying sporadic sales! I have the cheap ripoff footballs, even the vintage fake Madballs do well, sometimes better, however there are repops turning up after a Madball resurgence.
Nice Hike with the dogs!!!
I wondered if you ever thought about repairing stereos and other audio as a sideline? Probably more money just buying broke, repairing and selling for yourself however. Better use of time!?Some interesting sales:
eBay:
Weird looking when it is not clamped to a table, this saw blade sharpening clamp sold for $35, part of a bundle purchase of old tools and such:

5 more Laundry coin Boxes sell for $98, paid $20. They are being returned, did not fit buyer’s machines, but no problem, these seem to sell fast and for higher than my sold:

Five pair of tiny 1960’s Barbie shoes $50, basically a bonus sale from a big doll purchase that keeps paying. (a bit of a learning curve required to sell these)

Tiny one inch tall spaceman $20, these are tough to find, know what you got and a handful can bring good money over time:

Ebay (Etsy) is the backbone of my lifestyle. Basically when I am not working, I am out finding or thinking about finding good old stuff to sell, and then all the work involved putting that item in the pipeline. Other then my primary cushy security job and online selling, I take walks, sit outdoors with nature and a cigar, spend time with family (including dogs), eat out more than a little bit, drink good beer, watch Netflix, go to a good movie, and listen to music. (I would like to fish and hang out on the beach more).
So, the biggest chunk of my time is spent at the regular job, yet I am free on the computer with loads of down time, so within reason I can work eBay/etsy and even check in here with all of you. Living in Naples Fl affords a pretty good lifestyle in itself. So it is not so much the extra money earned supporting a lifestyle, it is the intrinsic lifestyle itself that comes about from doing the eBay business, if that makes sense.
On the other hand, as we close in on real ‘retirement’ age, my wife and I are considering changing up the whole show! But for now, this is me.01/21/2019 at 3:22 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 395: What Lifestyle Is eBay Supporting For You? #55529Geoff,
