I’m not a big fan of thrift stores for sourcing since I will often find only one or two things worth buying – or nothing at all – but I keep going back for finds like your motocross armor. Just the kind of thing the little old ladies doing the pricing at the indy thrifts miss. Nice sale.

I like that wool coat. I know that distressed leather sells but it didn’t occur to me that a wool coat would. I guess it can be a grunge look.

I am always impressed by the crusty metal patina decor you sell on Etsy. Good to see you’re getting those prices on eBay, too. Gotta love FedEx Home. It shows $20 less than Parcel Select if you had shipped that Snap On box to my zip! Just out of curiosity, why sell US only on those Jensen earrings?

I remember curling up with that Wish Book as a 10 year old. I didn’t get everything I circled, but everything I did get came from Sears. Sad for me to see the company’s decline.
Thanks! My last issue was a policy violation a week and a half ago (before the 8th) that was summarily resolved by the listing’s removal so I’ve nothing showing on it at the moment but it looks promising. It will be nice to have something in writing to refer to, to avoid those situations where multiple phone calls to resolve an issue would require starting fresh with each call.
PS: I looked at the OptiSeller page and I would say “buyer beware”. Be sure you know what you’re signing up for.
10/15/2019 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Optiseller: 3rd-party tool to help identify listings with missing Item specifics #69094I was going to sign up for it to see, but after looking at it I’ve decided not to. I don’t sign up for “free trials” and I don’t sign up for new apps that eBay says are “helpful” because they usually cause more problems than they solve. Web Interpret comes to mind, for example.
The Optiseller page says:
“eBay require key item specifics in a number of different categories. Without this information, you won’t be able to publish new, manually relisted or revised listings. Our Item Specifics Finder scans your listings to identify which of them are missing required item specifics. You might already have this information stored in other parts of your listing. Our Finder will retrieve it for you to save you time when updating your listings.
Optiseller can process item specifics in any category, on any eBay site, and can summarise this data in a CSV file. You’ll be able to download this file to use with File Exchange, or your third-party integration partner.
The Optiseller Aspect Finder tool improves your item specifics. It enables sellers to meet eBay standards, it doesn’t however set those standards. Not all categories have new mandates from eBay but all categories with new mandates are checked by our tool, if your inventory does not appear here then it does not have a new mandate at this time.”
Obviously from England or India.
Check this discussion out: https://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/optiseller-3rd-party-tool-to-help-identify-listings-with-missing-item-specifics/#post-69075 . Ebay has an app: https://www.optiseller.com/landingpage-aspect-finder-usa
If the tool works and is accurate, at least you can find out in advance before trying to change the handling time, etc.
10/15/2019 at 5:50 pm in reply to: Optiseller: 3rd-party tool to help identify listings with missing Item specifics #69075I could be wrong but I think it would have to work by category and subcategory, not by individual item. A given category will require for example item specifics of style and color. So it tells you when you have not provided style and color; doesn’t care what those entries might be so long as they’re filled in.

This vintage Turner 701 microphone with cable and stand was a family estate item. I had it priced pretty high at $140 and it sat for about a year but I finally brought it down to earth where it sold for $57 plus shipping. It was a very active category so I figured I’d price it high and wait for an offer but one never came. I should have known that buyers in this category would be very price-conscious.
This challenge coin is an example of the more elaborate designs that can be found in Navy coins. It is from the USS Constitution’s First Class Petty Officer’s Association. Although the Constitution is a museum ship, it is a commissioned naval vessel (the oldest one afloat) with an active duty US Navy crew. The coin sold for $50 plus shipping.
This custom made University of Florida embroidered cotton bomber jacket personalized to “Larry” was another item that I unsuccessfully set at a high price for over a year. Lowering the price to $35 plus shipping finally did the trick. It was $7 at an indy thrift.
Although this postcard is postmarked 1972, the marquee of the International Hotel in Las Vegas depicted in this postcard dates the photo from very early after its opening and during Elvis Presley’s first shows of his career comeback in August 1969. This card was $2 at the flea market. It quickly racked up several watchers and sold after a couple months for $28 plus .55 shipping. Usually the large-size postcards are poor sellers but it was the Elvis connection that sold this one, I’m sure.
Tobacciana is bread and butter for me though it typically needs to percolate a bit before it sells. This ceramic ashtray featuring a ‘60’s vintage White cabover tractor trailer in North American Van Lines livery sold at $25 plus shipping after about 6 months despite its worn condition. It was $2.50 at an antique mall.
These little miniature skateboards are Tech Deck brand “fingerboards” and feature popular full size skateboard brands and skaters. My son amassed quite a few of them in his day but has outgrown them so I’m selling off the collection. They can sometimes be picked up in quantity at yard sales for pennies each. They do sell and they’re easy to ship. These two sold as a lot with a little wrench bundled for $9 plus shipping.10/11/2019 at 10:12 am in reply to: Reporting my 72 hr Listing ban on ebay for being a violator… #68907Last week eBay removed my listing for a Persian Ghalam Zani Tinned Copper Repousse Metal Tray specifically for an “Embargoed goods policy” violation. Nowhere was Iran mentioned in the listing so I have to assume that the word “Persian” was the trigger. The eBay policy prohibits all goods from Iran – which used to be called Persia – regardless of age. Ebay took down the listing and then sent an email informing me of the violation and their actions.
10/09/2019 at 5:01 pm in reply to: Reporting my 72 hr Listing ban on ebay for being a violator… #68841I saw some listings using Qajar. My worry is that if they have now made the connection to Iran with Persian (which I have been using for years without a problem – there’s even a Regional Design filter in carpets category for Persian), they might make the connection with Qajar.
EBay has tolerated my occasional transgression over the years with no further punishment other than killing the offending listing but I have never relisted a specific item they told me not to relist. I don’t want to push my luck.
As for Ayatollah’s Paradise, I’d love to use that in a title.
10/09/2019 at 4:59 pm in reply to: Reporting my 72 hr Listing ban on ebay for being a violator… #68840Yes, it’s under the Government, transit, and shipping-related items policy. Not allowed: “Keys, locks, tools, or anything (regardless of how old the item is) that can control transit vehicles. Examples include railway switch keys or switch lock keys.”
10/09/2019 at 12:01 pm in reply to: Reporting my 72 hr Listing ban on ebay for being a violator… #68827I assume you’re SallysUniverse? If so, yes, your ball cap is showing up in search for “USS Nimitz hat cap” for me. In fact, both your sponsored listing and generic listing showed up.
The restriction must be for the future. Interesting that it is so specific regarding a 3 day restriction. I just had a listing with “Persian” in the title removed this week. (I know Iranian goods are prohibited but didn’t think the ‘bots would be smart enough to make the connection, especially in the Antiques category and with many hundreds of “Persian” items listed.)
My notice said: “Be sure that your current and future listings, including any items that are relisted automatically, follow these guidelines. If they don’t, they’ll be removed and your fees may not be refunded. It could also result in additional actions, including loss of buying and selling privileges on eBay.”
