As Jay said, you need to state your case without emotion. Do not interject your belief that they rep and seller are sexist, and that is why your case is being declined. Frankly, it just makes you sound crazy, and people tune out the rest of your words. (And for the record, I am female).
When you talk to ebay again, calmly state that you acknowledge the scanner was removed from the box for photographs, BUT the item is stained and has signs of use, and that you can furnish proof of the prior use, which is contrary to how the item was advertised.
It doesn’t matter if they seller made you mad, and is a total jerk, or how you feel about the previous rep and seller. What will decide the case is whether or not you can demonstrate proof that the seller misrepresented the item.
If you do not get satisfaction via ebay, you can try contacting Paypal, or your credit card company as a last resort.
Good luck.

Items Sold: 33
Cost of Items Sold: $53.00
Total Sales: $471.10
Highest Price Sold: $69.99 (brass and glass miniature curio cabinet)
Returns: 0 (I had one started late last week, and got it closed the week)
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $50
Number of items listed this week: I lost countI have had a lot of sales lately, and I have lost track of how many listings I did, or even how many items are in my store on a given day. I seem to hover around 350. I inch closer to 400, and then a bunch of things sell, and I’m back down to 350. It’s a good problem to have. 🙂
If she messaged you via ebay, you now have proof the delay was at buyer’s request. Just call ebay and ask them to remove the defect once it appears. It should be no problem.
If I had an item that was complicated to pack and limited time to do so, I would probably have it semi-packed and ready to go, right after listing. I do that for complicated items or things that require odd shaped boxes, so I don’t have a last-minute scramble.
I have this one: Brother HLL6200DW
I can’t say how easy or difficult it is to set up to an existing network, (mine was a gift, and my hubby set it up for me). As far as printing from my phone, that is easy. I had to download an app to my phone (android), so ebay, the phone, and the printer could all get along. Five minutes later, I was printing.
I’m still using the “starter” toner cartridge that came with the printer, so I haven’t had to refill it yet. I’ve probably printed 200 labels since I received the printer. If I had an inkjet, I would have needed to buy another cartridge by now.
02/02/2017 at 8:19 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 295: The Challenges of Changing Your Strategy #11665Paul, see if your grocery store has products made by Gluten Free Nation. Mine has them in the frozen section. They make these carrot cake cupcakes that are stupidly good!
I also like Udi’s pizzas. The unbaked crust was kind of bleh, but the pre-made, frozen pizzas are decent.
I do NOT recommend Schar products, however. They changed the recipe, and now the bread tastes weird. The last time I ate it, I got very sick. :p
02/02/2017 at 7:45 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 295: The Challenges of Changing Your Strategy #11663Woohoo, got the return closed and I voided the return label the buyer insisted I email to her.
I just started doing this in December. My gross profits were the same in December 2016 as 2015, but I had fewer transactions. So, I sold better quality, higher priced items, which is good. But I did not experience the “feeding frenzy” of sales that was December 2015. It felt like sales were slow in December. Not scientific, just a gut feeling. Hearing that growth was weaker than expected mirrors what I felt in December.
For January 2017, I have doubled my gross profits compared to January 2016. I am really pleased about that, obviously. I have put more time into my store this January, and ran a lot of auctions to blow out old inventory. The auctions accounted for 15% of my gross profits this month.
Honestly, I block buyers like this immediately. Anyone that starts a conversation with a negative, insulting, or harrassing tone is blocked right away.
Messages that complain about “outrageous shipping charges” ? Blocked. (I use calculated shipping, and no handling fees)
Insults about the quality of the item? Blocked. (If my stuff is so crappy, why do you want it?)
Repeated low-ball offers with lots of “come on, dude, come on, bro” messages? (I am talking to you, denim-snapback-hat-dude. I am not your “bro”, and I am not selling you my hat for $5 with free shipping). Blocked.
High-maintenance people who send a list of expectations on how they want an item shipped BEFORE they even commit to buying? Blocked.
My store is neither Neimann Marcus nor a 3rd world market. I am not dealing with this crap.
01/30/2017 at 10:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 295: The Challenges of Changing Your Strategy #11460Once I have ebay close the return out, can the buyer then open a case for INAD? Just curious. The buyer is grumpy, and I have a feeling they will pitch a fit once the return is closed.
01/30/2017 at 8:29 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 295: The Challenges of Changing Your Strategy #11443Week of Jan 22 – 28
* Total Items in Store: 375
* Items Sold: 24
* Cost of Items Sold: $25.50
* Total Sales: $309.14
* Highest Price Sold: $44.95 (brass candlesticks)
* Returns: 1, maybe? I sold a book to a lady, but it’s not the version she wants. She said she would be glad to keep it if I gave her a 70% discount (off a $25 book). HA! No. I approved the return, but she has yet to put it in the mail, despite me sending her a label (at her request).
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $2.50
* Number of items listed this week: I lost count. About 60?I have been listing, listing, listing. I did a total re-org of my storage room, and have all my death piles in bins, stacked up. I’m glad I did it, because it’s really motivated me to get this stuff photographed and listed, which is generating a lot of sales. I had almost $200 in sales yesterday! Woohoo!
I’ve given myself a deadline of February 25 (next auction date) to have all my death piles photographed and listed, (or at least put in draft format).
I cheated this week, and stopped by the thrift store. BUT!!! I already have the 3 items I bought listed. I spent less than $3, and my $3 should bring me $75.
And it could have been much worse: I decided not to go to an auction tomorrow. I did a total re-org of my storage room, and once I had a clear picture of what I still had left to list? Yeah, I have plenty to work on here. I don’t need to spend any more money on inventory right now.
Finally got my kitchen counters cleared off today, too!
I just have the free Bonanza account, so I don’t pay for anything until an item sells. In 2015, I sold 11 items all year. I went on vacation in 2016, and forgot to turn my Bonanza store back on until 9 months later, (oops). For 2016, I sold 1 item in November, and 2 in December.
I’ll keep Bonanza going as long as my account stays free. If they ever start charging me to sync up my ebay store, I’ll ditch it.
01/27/2017 at 2:01 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Stereo Antenna, Coleman cooler, Carhartt jacket, Snuff tin lid, Gooseneck lamp, Pioneer speakers #11274Most of my sales this week are pretty boring. Here are some other sales that were more interesting this month:
I bought a box lot of random sewing-related items for $10. The lot included these hoops, the rug braiding tools, a few other sewing implements, and a big box of serger thread. When all is done, I should make around $250 off the box.
Along the idea of a “cache”, I bought a box of these glass chandelier panels for $4 at Goodwill. There were 20 in the box, and I have them listed for $9 each, plus shipping. I’ll gross $180, selling them one at a time. I’ve sold 2 so far.
I find these brass candlesticks all.the.time. at Goodwill. I pick them up for a buck a piece, and when I have enough to make a 7 piece set, I shine them up, and sell for $45.
This was from a box of fabric that came with something else at an auction. I was going to throw it away, because it smelled musty. I aired it out for about a week, declared it “good enough”, and sold for $30.
Yeah, definitely something screwy happening with the Sale Event tool. I tried to create a sale, and it wouldn’t add any items to the sale. Then when I tried to save a draft of the promotion, it kicked me out of the screen, and failed to save the draft. It happened twice. :/
