We are on a rural delivery route, too. Our mail is delivered to a cluster box down the road, like at an apartment. They don’t do package pickup for us. Sometimes the carrier is nice and will drop off a package at my house, rather than make me go to the post office for pickup, since I’m only 1/4 mile from the cluster box.
It looks more like traditional Slovak clothes to me, but I’m not an expert.
Look through some of the pictures on this page. The dresses at the bottom of the page seem similar, though that have much poofier sleeves. 😉

Ebay will remove the late shipping ding, since the buyer asked. Buyers have made this request before, and it’s no big deal. Save the message from the buyer, call ebay in 3 weeks after the item has shipped, and state your case.
Unless you are on the borderline of losing TRS, I wouldn’t worry about one late shipment, though. It won’t impact you negatively.
I’m surprised ebay still allows mystery boxes. I was under the impression ebay put the kabosh on that during the Beanie Baby years.
Boo. 🙁
I’m a big fan of UIA. Mine is set to 2 days. I will send an invoice after one day, and that’s it. I don’t chase after people or try to gently cajole them into paying for their stuff, lol. Don’t be afraid of your buyers!
I don’t really understand people that procrastinate on paying for items on which they made an offer. Do you want it or not? If not, tell me and we’ll move on. Sometimes people do write me and say “I changed my mind, can I cancel this sale?”. I always write back and say “Yes, absolutely! And thank you for letting me know!” Sometimes people write me to say “Can I pay for this next week?”, and I will turn the UIA off for that item. I tell them “Sure! Thanks for letting me know! But please keep in mind I cannot hold the item past that date. I will send you an invoice to remind you. Thanks!” If they don’t pay by the date they requested, then UIA gets turned back on.
So far, no one has ever left me passive-aggressive feedback because of the UIA. Most people pay immediately once they get the UIA message. IMO, daily emails for 4 days are more alienating than using UIA.

Think of all the times you bought something, got it home, unboxed it, and realized there was a problem with the item. How did the merchant treat you when you explained the problem? Did they give you a refund or a hassle?
Ebay sales are not iron-clad, “no-backsies” contracts. His item arrived damaged. Refund his $20, and see about filing an insurance claim for the $20, if that loss is too hard on your wallet.

I have received a few that were a little passive aggressive, but not outright bad.
One buyer said something kind of hair-splitting about how my item could be considered “old” or “retro” but not “vintage”. The item was from the 60s or 70s, so…*shrug*. She then came back and bought more items from me, and left positive feedback on all of them. I guess she was just feeling cranky that day.
I would not charge labor or try to make profit off of the shipping. Buyers are very sensitive to shipping costs and get sniffy about any perception of padding shipping charges to snag a few more bucks.
I apply a handling charge if the item requires more packing material than normal. I also will add a handling charge for insurance on very expensive items.
The rest of the things you listed are simply the cost of doing business.
I love reading ads like that. It’s a tiny little self-esteem boost. Like, no matter how off-the-rails my life may go, at least I don’t have THAT mess to deal with, lol.
I have had that happen twice recently, on different games I was trying to buy. Different sellers, both listed their games for $25/Make Offer. I offered $20. One let the offer expire, the other declined it the next day, (and then ended the listing, and relisted it for the same price).
What the heck? I didn’t think $20 was an unreasonable offer on a $25 item.
If I wait a week or two, I’m usually over whatever crush I had on the stuff I bought. I’ve become very “Meh” about stuff.
You can sell military medals on ebay. I’d sell mine if they were worth anything! 😉
They will approve it. They wait awhile to refund, to make sure no one tries to scam them by voiding a label and using it anyway. I’ve never had them decline a refund.
06/26/2017 at 3:15 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 316: Craigslist Road Trips- We Live For A Deal #19811Brian, sure thing! I listed this one for $1000, and accepted a $750 offer. This one has some damage on it, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. $750 Meissen Figurine
Here is the other, smaller figurine. I listed it for $300, and accepted a $250 offer. $250 Meissen Figurine
As for what to look for, they are marked with blue crossed swords in the underglaze. Meissen has small variations in the mark to signify year, so you can look up how old each piece is. Mine were from roughly the 1920s to 1940s. They are hand painted, and generally have very nice detail with the painting. It’s high quality stuff. The only reason I know about them is from watching Antiques Roadshow! 😉
