11/19/2019 at 2:27 pm in reply to: Any way to send an offer to a buyer when another offers still active? #70836
Just in time for this post … I just started to send offers for today. I selected a few where I’m taking 20% off and pressed Make Offer. Right under the area where I type in the percentage is a check box “Allow Counteroffers”. If you hover around the information box next to it, you get “Buyers can send you counteroffers. You’ll be able to negotiate until an offer is accepted or declined.”.
I like the way it is implemented because there will be some items where I won’t want to take counteroffers.
However, this does not answer the question whether an unrelated potential buyer can send you an email and you can send an offer back.

Ryanne – You print out each label as the item sells, correct? I ship all my stuff at once using the bulk label page. So, if I have three items, I get a total purchase price for all the labels and the fact that I bought three; no breakdown of the cost for each label. I don’t even know if I can go back and figure out how much I paid for shipping on a particular item.
Sometimes I offer priority first and sometimes parcel. I base it on whether it is an item that has some competition or it it is something that is more rare where the buyer might not care as much about shipping cost. If someone buys using parcel, I’ll upgrade to priority as long as my discount makes the price even.
For heavier items, I’ll list it with “Parcel, FedEx, Priority”. In a few cases where the item is particularly big and heavy, I’ll do “FedEx, Parcel”.

If you click on that, it will show you all the offers given or received on the item. If one is still active, it will list how much longer the offer is active.
When I said glitch, I was thinking more in line with perhaps eBay didn’t mean to prevent you from making an offer through messaging. When I was at eBay Upfront in NY two weeks ago, they did say something about adding a negotiation function to the make an offer function. I thought that they were talking about buyers who have had an offer, but what about a person who did not get one and just asks? Shouldn’t you have the normal function of making an offer through the message? I don’t know; perhaps their design was not to allow negotiation, but they will be changing that in the future.
I tried the same thing that you did when a buyer asked for a lower price. I asked the buyer to wait, but he/she was not as patient. I think that this person did get an “offer to watchers” previously.

You could try calling eBay in this case and see why it is happening. I have a feeling it is a glitch or something that they didn’t think all the way through.
One possibility, you can tell the buyer to pay full price, and then you will refund the difference through PayPal. The only issue there is that PayPal won’t refund you their fee for the difference between the purchase price and $40.
I had more distractions than expected last week and managed only 13 new listings.
Maybe that’s not too bad because I would have never beat VL who is back and better than ever! I see this week as being more focused.
Great podcast as usual. I’m pretty sure that the visibility of the buyer’s note on the orders page has been there quite a while. Maybe even a year? I guess if you don’t get many buyer’s notes, then you wouldn’t notice it so much.
Better week for me:
Week of Nov 10 – 16
* Total Items in Store: 1524 eBay, 36 Etsy
* Items Sold: 19 eBay; 1 Etsy
* Cost of Items Sold: $21.69 + $20 Commission
* Total Sales: $435.20 eBay; $32.95 Etsy
* Highest Price Sold: $100 NWT Vintage Hartmann 4 suiter luggage
* Average Price Sold: $23.41
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 13My sale on Etsy was interesting. I have priced everything there with free shipping, but the sale was international. This meant I kept the amount that was allocated for US shipping. I also used Pirate Ship’s simple first class international postage and made another $10. Realistically, I should just reduce international postage cost based on the difference between what I’ve allocated and Pirate Ship’s cost. I could get more international sales that way; however, I think I will wait until the beginning of next year.
How many items do you have listed?
Do you have a store subscription?
What types of items do you sell?If you want, you can post a link to your store, and other sellers can check it out and provide recommendations.

Really old digital cameras from the 1800s? ๐
(I think you meant 20th century).
What a great story – good luck to you.
I lost my job in 2015 when my company moved to another state, and I decided not to go with them. I tried finding a job close enough to home, but everything was a long commute, required a relocation, or I tried and didn’t get the job.
Thankfully, my husband and I were not living above our means. We were able to cut back on expenses bit by bit. I started an eBay business so that we didn’t have to spend our retirement. It has worked, and it should work for you!
This came up on the forum at the beginning of the year:
I didn’t have time to read through the description when I posted the link. I saw it posted to a Facebook group that I just joined and thought I’d pass it along.
Temudgin – You are correct in that the seller does not see the import fees or the shipping from eBay’s Kentucky warehouse to the international destination.
I wonder, with eBay Send, if there will be many warehouses rather than one in the middle of the country. That might help with speed and cost.
Makes more sense that it doesn’t start until the beginning of next year. I don’t remember hearing anything about a new shipping program either online or at NY Upfront two weeks ago.

I once had a paperweight from the McKinley-Roosevelt ticket (around 1900), and it kind of looked like that. The photos were very faded even more than what you have.
