Everytime I use my $50 ebay store coupon to buy supplies, it seems like the prices go up. So, I decided to see if what I was thinking was true.
I went back to a purchase I made on 01/05/18. I bought 25 “New! eBay-Branded Boxes With Blue 2-Color Logo 12″ x 10″ x 8” for $20.47. Those boxes will now cost you $34.12. That is up 67% in just 4 years.
Our $50 coupon (or in some cases $150 coupon) doesn’t go very far anymore. We could ask ebay to give a higher coupon amount to take into account inflation.
If the prices keep going up, I may just use only the $50 coupon and buy the rest of my boxes elsewhere. I can get them cheaper locally, but they won’t have the ebay logo. I like to have the ebay logo, but at some price point, it won’t make sense for me.
What do you think?

I noticed that some eBay sellers will sell eBay boxes because they get the coupon, but don’t use the boxes. I would expect that some sell at a discount, but I’ve never checked. If you really would prefer to buy eBay branded boxes, perhaps you should take a look and buy them that way.
I had a bunch of eBay thank-you card that I got at an event. I don’t use them, so I sold them for a discount.

I use the 6×9 eBay branded padded envelope fairly frequently (probably 10 to 20 a week), and I had a hunch that the price of them had gone up significantly over the last few years. I seem to remember that one box used to cost less than the full amount of the coupon, so I would end up ordering something else small (usually tissue paper) to use the full coupon plus a few bucks. So, I went back into my purchase history and checked.
On March 30, 2020, a box of 200 envelopes cost $51.12 before the coupon.
They were $54.09 the last time I ordered them (October) and the current price is $58.09.
Still an increase, but not as much as I thought and certainly not as much as the boxes have increased.
I love this perk even if the supplies are not as much of a deal as they used to be, and I’ll be sad if eBay ever gets rid of it. A lot of their changes in the last few years have been seller friendly, so let’s hope that trend continues.

I never expected Ebay to continue with the store coupons as long as they have. Eventually I’m sure they will get rid of it or at least reduce it. Can you imagine the uproar from sellers when that happens?

The free shipping supplies are a good form of advertising for eBay that probably doesn’t cost them much since it’s factored into our subscription costs. I doubt they discontinue it.

Ebay used to not offer the free shipping supplies and the store subscription price stayed the same.

If you think this is sticker shock, wait until you go to buy bubble wrap again. I just put in my order and prices are up on the order of 25-30%!

Retro,
If you are buying “100 ft x 24″- Large Bubble 1/2″- perforated every 12″ Core included”, then the best deal I have found at $18.99:
They go on sale every so often, and that is now. Not sure how long they will be at that price.
If you are looking for small bubble wrap that is 12″ , then Sams Club has the best price at about $13.28 for 240 SQ FT.

That’s a great deal for the 24″ wide! I ordered 3 rolls and put in a cancel request for the big bubble wrap I ordered at amazon. Too bad they were sold out of the small bubble.
I also ordered some of the unfilled bubble wrap to tinker with. You can fill it yourself with a hand pump instead of using the expensive machine.

Retro,
Glad the large bubble worked for you.
Can you post a link to the unfilled bubble wrap? That is a good idea.

This is the one I ordered:
It looks like some of the bubble wrap I occasionally scavenge from our receiving department at work. The stuff I get at work similar to this is SUPER tough and resists popping much more than the junk big bubble stuff I usually buy.

Retro – Let us know how the unfilled bubble wrap experiment goes. Can you use just any kind of hand pump? I’m wondering if the pump I use to fill the air mattress would work – I just plug it into the wall, no manual labor required. But maybe it would be more trouble than it’s worth so I’m curious how it turns out.

The ones I’ve saw use a dual action balloon pump. I have several of those as my wife is a balloon artist. Could probably use a small electric pump which I’ll also experiment with.
The videos I’ve seen you cut to length what you want, use a binder clip on one end and pump from the other. Once it is full it self-seals both ends.

Retro,
Just a heads up about ghalys shipping. They are not as fast as Amazon.
I ordered just before Christmas and it took 10 days to arrive.

Amazon is slow for shipping bubble wrap too since it is 3rd party sellers.

Get ahead of the curve! The EU has banned single-use plastics, including bubble wrap; the alternative now is corrugated bubble wrap, made from recycled
political manifestoscardboard.“Plastic? We don’t need no steenkin’ plastic!”
