12/21/2018 at 10:34 am in reply to: Ebay not counting Dec 5th as Postal Holiday in Late Tracking Uploaded Metric #53834
like jay said, we have several late tracking dings. a bunch of them are due to, what i’m assuming, is high volume of holiday packages this time of year and some of my items took 8-10 days to get to people. one of them was my postal carrier didn’t see a smaller package in my pickup bag and it didn’t go out until the next day. they all add up. hoping USPS congestion eases when we get back and have a bunch of stuff to ship.
your Airbnb looks amazing! did you buy the house specifically for Airbnb?
12/17/2018 at 7:04 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 390: Building a Business to Build a Life #53563yeah it’s fine, can’t complain about well paid contract/side work!
12/17/2018 at 7:01 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 390: Building a Business to Build a Life #53562i agree 100%, i love listing when i would otherwise just be sitting there on a train or in the truck home from a road trip. for sure!
12/17/2018 at 6:58 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 390: Building a Business to Build a Life #53561p.s. one of our helpers (she works 12 hours a week) is a bit artsy like us and wears vintage thrift store finds, is into photography and video. her titles are often as good as my own. i’ll sometimes have to fill in a specific keyword or material, but overall she’s pretty amazing, which is super lucky for us.
12/17/2018 at 6:56 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 390: Building a Business to Build a Life #53560a short response– no one reads descriptions anymore. ebay pretty much hides them on mobile and sometimes on desktop too. i have people asking for things that are right there in the description constantly. ebay is a changing beast. it’s all about titles, photos (some people don’t even look past photo #1 these days) and item specifics.
12/17/2018 at 9:18 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 390: Building a Business to Build a Life #534972 weeks “off” which to us means (yes lots of downtime and visiting family and seeing some shows in nyc) BUT we are still running ebay while away, (i listed 50 things on the train up here), keeping our airbnbs running and guests happy, and buying/researching materials for the renovation of buildings (have 2 appointments today), and i’m trying to finish a couple videos for a client before xmas….but is it work?? ; )
12/17/2018 at 8:23 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 390: Building a Business to Build a Life #53477i can’t remember if we mentioned it this week, but having helpers take photos and title listings has made ebay feel 100% less of a grind, and i’m very sure that contributes to us not feeling like we need to calculate our $/hour rate any more. i’m sure we were thinking about that a couple years ago for sure. but now we feel like we are managers who oversee the business rather than the hourly workers.
we still source everything, pack everything, answer all questions and deal with returns of course. but it certainly feels less of a grind now.
yeah i didn’t realize how far it was, the Lyft rides were not bad traffic wise, but i was surprised that Orlando didn’t have Lyft Line (or Uber Pool) which makes rides a lot cheaper, so just to get to Disney and back was like $50-60 round trip! we thought about renting a car when we got there because of that, but it was fine, we only went down there a couple times. and we could walk to Publix for food near our Airbnb so that helped.
my mom went to high school in Cocoa and Satellite Beaches (not sure why both? i need to ask her) but right where you are!
just heard from a fellow scavenger that it sucks to buy on Poshmark too. sellers canceling orders consistently and only after 7 business days. not a good sign. anyone else try to buy on Posh?
yeah we loved Mills50/North Colonialtown area. we Lyft’ed down to Disney Doplhin for tech meetups (a lot further than i thought!). the weather was absolutely stunning while we were there too, we were like, oh, this is why people live here in the winter (or forever). so fun.
i’m terrible at keeping my time for video editing projects (we usually get paid a flat fee), so i just downloaded this so i know how long these things are really taking me. thanks! i needed that.
great tip, just used this today!
