Yes, US reps.
Ok…so I’m gonna try real hard not to put any curse words on here…just know I’ve said quite a few of them this evening.
So the two different credits I was supposed to get I’ve talked about in this post? Yeah, neither of them ever showed up in my account. I’ve been waiting until I had another reason to call in order to open this can of worms again. I’ve tried to just put it out of my mind in the meantime because I know how much it affects me. I’m actually proud to say I did mostly block it out…but tonight I had a small issue that needed fixed so I dove off the cliff into madness once again…
Anyways, so after another hour sharing the same recap again to two people, I find out that the $138.54 credit is apparently still stuck in “pending”, even though the rep told me he had approval before we got off the phone.
The second camera credit of $23.65 also never showed up. I got an email acknowledging the appeal, but nothing else ever happened.
The best (worst) part of all of this is that these MOTHER F*&#&^$#$ CSR reps do NOT actually place any notes in the log!!!
Polite words cannot express the level of absolute hatred and disgust I feel for ebay at this moment.
I’ve been promised a call back on both issues. I won’t hold my breath… until then I’m gonna let this all go…again.
Nice!
I downloaded the Dscout app a while back but never did anything with it. Maybe I should rethink that.01/21/2019 at 11:31 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 395: What Lifestyle Is eBay Supporting For You? #55492Well to be fair, we had a double whammy this month that is affecting sales:
Shutdown…and Marie Kondo.01/21/2019 at 10:23 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 395: What Lifestyle Is eBay Supporting For You? #55484What lifestyle does ebay support? ebay filled the gap caused by the pay cut I took at my new employer. While it was a pay cut, the hours I work went WAY down as I’m no longer on call or expected to work over on a regular basis. I put in my 40 hours in a low hazard work place and forget about work once I get to my car. That alone was TOTALLY worth the pay cut. That time I would have spent being miserable working over for free (salary exempt sucks) I instead spend on ebay, which I LOVE.
Currently my ebay supports the following:
– ebay is fully self supported with separate accounts than my normal checking account and payment cards. All inventory purchases, fees, and expenses come directly from ebay funds.
– Car payments are paid with ebay funds.
– All weekend getaways with family are paid for with ebay funds
– Yearly Vacation paid for with ebay funds
– If sales are good enough, I make the house payment with ebay funds.
– This year all Christmas gifts were paid for via ebay funds since my Christmas sales were so good.Having ebay fund so many things frees me up to put the federal maximum into my health Savings Account every year, as well as putting a good chunk of my paycheck into 401K. In this day & age I consider that Health Savings account a far greater priority than 401K. One severe injury or illness to any member of my family can be devastating to our finances. I no longer have to worry about that, as I have a couple years worth of max out of pocket amounts in that fund.

Items Sold 25
Total Sales $621.88
COGS $73.00
Total Profit $548.88
Average profit $21.96
Average sales price $24.88
New Listings 47My sales volume is doing very well, but something just feels “off” about my sales. Maybe it’s the fact most of my sales are low dollar right now. I am on trend to finish a few hundred dollars below my January 2018 sales this month, even though I have 1100 items in inventory compared to my 975 average a year ago.
It is likely the shutdown is affecting sales. Man I hope this ends soon…
I’ve been on a listing tear the last 3 weeks. My system of creating listings at work during breaks is really helping me. Once I have a bunch of listings created, I tackle the photos in my ebay room as quick as possible. Then I upload and finish the listings at my leisure on the phone during down times to be more efficient.
I’ve listed as much in the last 3 weeks as I have in the previous 8 weeks combined! So while my sales are not where I’d like them to be, I am starting out 2019 on a positive path to get a lot more inventory up for sale.
If I’m ever in doubt I do not make any claims and let the keywords and description speak for themselves.
I recently listed a Nike Varsity Leather & wool coat that I thought was true vintage when I got it.
I had my profit goggles on for sure. Turns out it is a remake and had some small holes in the wool sections. Doh! I’ll still make decent money for it, but not the $200+ I was hoping to get.01/17/2019 at 9:47 am in reply to: Bought some Vintage 80's Disney World Family Photos-does anyone have experience? #55319It looks like the bases are covered, but I wanted to add my perspective as a person who has actively looked for photos with the intention to pay money for them.
I have placed local craigslist adds offering to pay money for photos of the exterior/interior of the mall arcades I frequented as a kid in the 90’s. The arcades were called “The Gold Mine” – the front had a rock and wood beam façade. The inside was painted black with wood beams on the walls and ceiling with lantern style dim lighting so the whole place felt like being in a mine. The mall had not one, but TWO of these arcades! They each had different games.
If I saw a photo album of 80’s/90’s photos of my local mall on ebay (Huntington Mall if any of you have it 😀 ) I would definitely pay money for it.
So yeah, there are people out there with that mindset that want to relive a part of their childhood and enhance their cloudy mental images with real images.
I prefer to sell high risk items such as this locally on facebook yardsale. I sold a brand new apple watch a while back for more than I paid for it. I had lost the receipt and could not return it to store.
Side note, I really miss the focus study company that used to operate in our mall. My entire childhood there would be these people with clipboards who hung out in one of the concourses and would walk up and talk to people. My parents would avoid them like the plague as they thought they were just doing annoying surveys.
It wasn’t until I was in college and one of these people caught me when I wasn’t paying attention. They asked me a couple questions then asked me to come to their office. They asked a few more questions then gave me some free shaving cream along with $10. Said if I came back in a week and followed up with opinions on the cream they’d give me more money. They did!
Ever since then my wife (then girlfriend) and I would always walk slowly when passing these people hoping to get picked. I only got picked once more for a basic survey and $5, but my wife got it several times. I distinctly remember her getting a bunch of Herbal Essence products once, and a pile of frozen pizzas another time.
It was the best time ever for poor college students like us!
Me too!
Like you guys, I can tell the age of my items from where I took the pictures. If I have a pair of shoes I obviously listed 2 years ago and this is the first ever offer, I’m HIGHLY inclined to take that offer.
The only thing I’d like to add is an option to disable “best offer” while the sale is running.
Shirts are dead. I’ve only sold 10 shirts total in the last 90 days. All my shirts are promoted with free shipping and best offer.
I can’t sell a ralph lauren shirt to save my life. I quit sourcing shirts but I do have a backlog to list from. I haven’t listed any in quite a while either.
Currently I have 87 shirt listings…maybe I just don’t have enough listings.
Either way, I’m inspired to try a 20% off sale on what I do have.
It has been a long time that I’ve done a sale. I am a fan of the changes they have made – a lot more user friendly now. I decided to add free shipping as well for the sale. This way I don’t have to edit the listings to free shipping.
In 2018, all my sales came in during the day and I would have crickets over night.
So far this month, my sales and offers happen a lot overnight and I get crickets during the day.
Things are definitely odd right now.
In talking with the Assistant US District Attorneys I deal with each month, they aren’t even allowed to call in sick or go to doctor appointments during the shutdown.
All vacation and leave was cancelled over the Holidays.Ughhh….that is major suck-atude right there.
I hope this is resolved soon. It isn’t good for anyone…should have never come to this.
That’s the old law. Everything is in flux right now after the supreme court ruling.
States can now require sales tax for all online purchases their residents make.
It’s a mess for small businesses like us. -
