I gave Bonanza the boot a couple months ago. It wasn’t worth the headaches. THe breaking point was somehow all my sold items got activated as being for sale on Bonanza. I know I didn’t do it because I was completely hands off on Bonanza – just logged in to get the shipping info after a sale and shipped from paypal.
Items in Store 1045
Items Sold 13
Total Sales $286.50
COGS $35.00
Total Profit $251.50
Average profit $19.35
Average sales price $22.04
New Listings 31Ugh… major stink face at my numbers this week.
March 2019: 76 Sales for $1983.79 gross
March 2018: 78 Sales for $2641.39 grossIn March 2018 I had a $200 and a $250 sale
This past month I had a $100 sale and a $65 sale. Everything else was low dollar less than $50. So removing outliers I had a pretty similar month to last year.March is typically my slowest month. The weather is usually inconsistent. My ebay space is a mess from winter months avoiding lots of travel to/from my ebay shed in my back yard. I traditionally don’t list alot in January/February. Did I mention that I HATE winter?
I was able to find some time to photograph items this week and got my listing numbers up. It did not have much affect on my sales.
The crappiest thing about this low sales month is that I have to now pay my car payment and house payment from my normal checking account. Booo!!!
April is going to be an interesting month. I’m going to cut out scavenging completely and ramp up my listing to maximize my cash reserves. We have a baby coming sometime this month – so exciting!
I finally finished off the ebay tape I ordered long ago. HATED it. The only thing it stuck to is more ebay tape. I have to do full wraps around every box I used it on.
I felt obligated to finish it off. Won’t buy it again.

Is this available?
Yes.It gets tiresome.
I do have a person who is coming to view a pinball machine I am selling from FB yardsale this weekend. I don’t really use the various yardsale groups anymore – just stick to marketplace. I also don’t like that marketplace does not have a “firehose” version of my local radius. I want to see an unfiltered stream of EVERYthing that is posted within 10 miles.
So cool! Did they give you an estimate of when they would be auctioning it?
Personally I think that 400 number should be cut in half.
Not all successful full time businesses need 50 sales a week.
I did not go today. I am ok with that.
Very tired, very busy. I didn’t need that stress today. I may go this weekend and see what is left. There is some back story to this.
The ebay classic shipping screen was glitching on me. For me, anytime I have free shipping on an item I am forced into the classic shipping screen – it will not go to the new shipping screen. I had two different items that the classic screen was trying to GREATLY overcharge me. The items were going to East coast customers and the label was going to be $20 for a 3 lb package!
I reported the issue to ebay and I got the ususal glorious customer service experience. First they told me I was wrong. Then I proved their system was screwed up in real time. We even experimented with one that undercharged me a dollar or two. The CSR told me to just call in with whatever labels overcharged me and that if I was undercharged then that is basically a “freebie” I can keep.
I was told IT would look into the problem and get back to me within 3 days. Well as per usual, they never got back to me and they never fixed it. Eventually I figured out the issue – the zones are backwards for me in the classic shipping calculator. So….if I use the classic shipping screen for items shipping to California then I can ship 3lb + items for about $8! I did this a few times….these are the items I got the underpayment emails on.
So I’m not too terribly upset because I just got charged back the money I should have spent on ebay. There’s nothing I can do about it since ebay will just deny that the CSR ever had that conversation with me…
I just avoid the classic shipping screen now and use paypal labels if I am forced to use classic.
100% on the money. Don’t even pull the item until money is in hand. You’re just setting yourself up for disappointment and extra work otherwise.
I pointed this out last week, but I’ll state it again here.
Yes ebay has hit me multiple times for underpayment when I followed ebays shipping screen perfectly.
I really don’t have much desire to call ebay and deal with their Schite Customer service and get myself all worked up over a couple dollars. I guess their mission to discourage CS calls to save money was a sucess….Anyways, it is obvious the ebay shipping screen was WRONG and I did nothing wrong but ebay is sticking me with the bill for their error.
Here is the text from one of the underpayment charge emails:
Some of your shipping labels have cost adjustments
Hi Adam,
The US Postal Service has let us know that some of your recent shipping labels required a cost adjustment. That means you paid too much or too little for the actual cost of shipping. You can see some of your adjustments below or view all shipping label cost adjustments in your eBay account.
We’ve attempted to charge or credit your account. If we were unable to successfully charge your account, you may see the charge on your invoice.
What you need to get right when shipping your item:
Package weight
Package dimensions
Shipping service
If you think these adjustments are incorrect, you can contact USPS Customer Care at 1-844-819-5187 or verifypostagehelp@usps.gov to open a dispute. USPS will respond within 5-15 business days.

Revenue Assurance ID: 2034808341Oh! I forgot to mention that I sold my first vintage used Cologne last week. Sold a 3/4 full bottle of Estee Lauder Metropolis Cologne for $65.
I would never in a million year thought to even look at used cologne without this site. When I saw that tray of colognes being set up though while in the checkout line, I abandoned my spot and ran over to them ASAP.
No bulk price. Pseudo estate sale. The collectibles and such will be individually priced. The clothes and shoes will largely be priced flat per item. They don’t really care about the clothes/shoes. Just want to move it.
Once I am there and can inspect things closer I’d see if they would do a bulk price, but really alot of the stuff I likely don’t want from what I’ve seen so far. I don’t want a bunch of lower end mall brand shirts/pants. I would be cherry picking to control how much stuff I get. Even cherry picking though, I could end up with a load of 50+ pair of shoes, 50+ shirts/sweaters/vests, 20-30 suits, 20-30 pair of golf pants, and 100+ ties and spend close to $1k. Prices will be less than Goodwill per item.
And who knows what I haven’t even seen yet.Doubly, I’ve been watching your transition to full time with great interest.
I don’t think you need to get too far down on yourself. You really haven’t been listing much and to be honest, if you aren’t desperate for the money then that is FINE!You likely need to decompress and allow yourself to mentally adjust to this new situation. Take for instance homeschooling: Many homeschoolers who take their children out of public school will do short term “unschooling”. Basically they give their kids a break several weeks long of having nothing scheduled. Then they allow their kids to follow their interests and passions for a few weeks. Once the ingrained patterns of the public school has faded a bit then they start to form the structure that makes up their homeschool day. Some stick with unschooling while others bring in some forms of a structured day.
The process is typically 1-3 months.
So yeah man if you need to decompress, do some work around the house, etc and you can financially afford to do it then don’t feel guilty about it.
The numbers will come roaring back once you find your groove.
What is ASD?
And yes my counter-argument to her is that I have ZERO issues acquiring high quality inventory. I have to basically beat it back with a stick and keep increasing my standards to keep from buying too much. I am constantly learning, adapting, and changing my sourcing methods to stay ahead.
We don’t really control the availability, content, or quality of the inventory we acquire – we just have to be there when it does become available with cash in hand.
Back when I was big into collecting, repairing, and selling vintage arcade and pinball machines it was common knowledge that you better always be ready to hop in your truck with cash in hand on a moments notice or else you won’t get anything. I actually turned down many cheap and even free games as sources were plentiful from 2006 through about 2013.
Well…those cheap and easy to acquire sources dried up. Prices for even junk went through the roof. I still look for cheap arcade/pinballs, but they have become very, very rare. -
