I listen to podcasts that I want to pay attention to during my commute and during my walks.
When I working or listing, I listen to music.
I’ve tried listening to podcasts while working and I either quit working to listen, or I get absorbed by my work and go a long stretch without hearing a word that was said on the podcast. My go-to non scavenger podcasts are “How Did This Get Made”, and “The Tim Ferriss Show”.
Shipping is what it is. Good buyers understand.
Bad buyers complain about everything and won’t be happy no matter what you do.If you get a message from a buyer whining about the shipping price, just reply that your shipping is based on actual dimensions and weight – that is just what the shipping company charges now.
Then don’t engage anymore on the subject. Odds are they weren’t gonna actually buy it anyways.

This is ebay we’re talking about…don’t go bringing that simple logic up in here!
Ebay does not close ANY INAD cases. Period. Last time I tried the CSR told me “We aren’t in the business of trying to determine the intentions of the buyer. If they open an INAD, then it is not as described. Period”.

I was a huge popcorn eater before. Now I can go to the movies and eat….nothing.01/20/2020 at 11:40 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 446: Interview with Dan The Diner, Fellow Scavenger! #73096I eat chocolate every day!
95% Lindt dark chocolate – it’s basically a health food.
I cap off almost every day with 4 squares of that with some peanut butter.Once you cut out pretty much all sugar, it’s amazing how sweet 95% dark chocolate can be.

It’s amazing how fundamentally wrong most main stream information about Keto and fasting is. For a person like me who was metabolically unhealthy, it is permanently life changing.

New Listings 79The $1k+ train is still on the tracks baby! I was worried going into the weekend but ended up with over $600 in sales on the weekend.
Nothing else of importance happened this week scavenger wise.
I did officially hit 100lbs lost this week! At the beginning of June I weighed 345, and now I weigh 245. My all time high a few years ago was 352. It’s weird, because even though I weigh 245 I fit the size clothes I wore in high school at 185-190. People tell me I look more like 200lbs and are shocked when I tell them I’m 245. Last night my wife showed me a picture of myself from about 8 months ago. Sheesh! That guy looked extremely uncomfortable in his skin.
Next month we go on a trip to meet a goal I’ve been looking forward to for a LONG time – we’re going to Universal Studios and I’m going to ride the harry potter rides! We went 4.5 years ago and I had to take the walk of shame from the loading point on one, and failed the test rig on the other. I did not ride many rides on that trip…
This time imma ride ALL the rides!
That trip will be funded courtesy of my ebay business that I have grown with the help and encouragement of this group. Thanks to everyone here for being awesome.01/20/2020 at 9:25 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 446: Interview with Dan The Diner, Fellow Scavenger! #73068Whoah, you have ALOT going on!
The fact you are still where you are with your store is amazing.Yeah it seems odd that they’ve dropped support so soon. They supported XP for YEARS!
I run Linux on the computers my kids use. I use a build called Zorin OS. I have an install thumb drive set up so it is stupid easy to set up a new computer. It is GREAT for a basic computer to do internet and basic word processing. My eyes start to glaze over if I have to figure out how to use the command line stuff.
Yeah I looked at mine in Godaddy and it did not zero out. It is showing a net positive. I have not dug into it deep yet to determine why.
You can make it so that people who have unpaid item strikes cannot buy your items. That’s your main recourse as a seller.
I just made an offer on Mercari and their communication to buyers is lightyears ahead of ebay.
They made it very clear that my offer was binding and that I would be charged immediately if the seller accepted. All buyers really want is clear communication – ebay SUCKS at this. So many recurring issues would be eliminated if ebay did their end of the business better.
I wear this shirt on the weekends when I am out scavenging:
If we have any more kids maybe I can look into registering my family as a charitable organization. Lol…its for the kids!
The transaction fee is not the problem. Noone would have a problem with paypal keeping the transaction fee on a cancelled sale. That is 30 cents.
The problem is that now they are also keeping the final value fee (2.9% of the whole transaction)as well. That is bullcrap and a dirty cash grab by them.
So if someone buys a $2000 item from you and then immediately cancels due to a mistake, you would be out $58 – not just 30 cents.
Imagine if ebay kept the final value fee even when the transaction never officially took place. That is plain wrong.

New Listings 20I’ve cleared $1k in sales for 6 weeks in a row. A man could get used to this, but I know the crash is coming sometime in February/March. I’m a listing machine right now, so maybe I can stave that off a bit this year.
Last week I started considering storage improvements to consider this year. I got the idea to use rolling storage carts. I started researching, but the ones you can buy at big box stores are trash that I wouldn’t consider safely putting 50lbs on.
Then I got on facebook and saw a listing for EXACTLY what I wanted – industrial grade rolling storage carts. Another K-mart is going out of business, which is where these were at. I ended up buying 9 of them, but I can’t pick them up for a few more weeks. They are heavy duty welded construction, 4 shelves 4′ wide and 2′ deep. The beauty of rolling carts is that I can stack them all up next to each other – no aisles needed. These kind of carts cost hundreds of dollars new. I got them for $50 each.So after I dropped all that cash on the carts, I had to offset the costs. Enter shopping the rest of the fixtures/equipment stuff. I did quite well. I got several new in box Sloan flush valves, heavy duty door closers, a bunch of HVAC and lighting parts, New in box large toner cartridges. All the selling inventory I got will bring in about $800-1000.
They also had really nice mannequins at this sale for super cheap. I got a male, female, and a “well endowed full figure” female. All with the nice magnetic pose-able arms. I paid $60 total for all 3. I’ll be purging alot of my mannequin collection soon since these are so much nicer than the ones I have on hand. If anyone here is interested in mannequins, I can ship them!
My favorite buy though was tape. They had sealed boxes of 36 rolls of tape for $20 each. I bought all 3 boxes. I am set on tape for YEARS.
I’ve recently gotten into watching Craigslist Hunter videos on youtube. That dude is MORE than fair and straight up with everyone that comes in. He pays way more than he should for many things, but he deals in volume.
Then you read the comments…the reseller haters come out in force. -
