In this case I would respond “If you are unhappy with the shipping charges, I can cancel the order for you. Let me know how you would like to proceed. If I don’t hear anything by “X” date, I’ll proceed with shipping. Thanks”.
That puts the ball in their court.
07/20/2020 at 11:30 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 472: Biggest Sale, Biggest Scavenge #79759I took a look at your store.
Unfortunately, your items are what I consider slow movers. In my store similar brands/items take years to sell, even at lower prices.
I’d also recommend changing your backdrop to white. I use marine vinyl from a craft store. Very durable and pretty cheap.
When I first started a few years ago I ran a store with max 100 items and I had very quick turnover. I mainly sold electronics and toys. When I sourced I would only get things that had a high sales to listings ratio. Then I would always price my item competitively. Back then I also pre-boxed all my listings which is why it was important to turn over quick.
Then I found this site and started moving to slower moving inventory like clothes and shoes.
If you are time limited then I highly recommend you focus your scavenging and listing to items that have far more 90 day solds than current listings. This way you can pretty much assure you will sell it within 90 days.
I also applied for a $1000 loan. That was the smallest amount I could apply for, and there was no option to just apply for the grant. I thought I could let the paperwork expire on the loan, but I got an email saying my whole application would be thrown out if I did that.
I talked with a rep through email and they weren’t much help at all. They could not/would not confirm if I could just get the grant.
07/20/2020 at 9:28 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 472: Biggest Sale, Biggest Scavenge #79744I did not have direct contact with this person but I have had direct contact with the supervisor who sent him home. I always have a mask and social distance while at work and sanitize before/after I touch anything that isn’t mine, but now that the virus is confirmed at our facility and I have no idea who has been exposed combined with the fact we have many people here who don’t take the prevention steps seriously I’m quite concerned.
Ideally it would be nice if management would re-enact the work from home policy and spread out the production employees more, but management is opposed to those steps.
So I got $1000 in my bank account today. I don’t know if it is the grant money or the $1k loan I applied for because they said my whole application would be rejected if I didn’t take it…or both. I tried talking to a person but they did not answer my questions.
I’ve received no communications on how/when/where to pay back the loan.
In hindsight, I wish I would have taken the full loan offered to me. There is talk about forgiving ALL these loans under a certain dollar amount in the future.

I had a HUGE Sunday. Over $1000 in sales. I was also finally able to focus and get a bit of work done on ebay as well. I’ll have plenty of time to get things done this week….there has been a positive case of covid at my workplace so my wife wants me to stick to myself this week since management has decided to go about “business as usual”.
It’s a crappy situation because allegedly this worker just returned from a Florida vacation. Many in his family were already symptomatic, he did not alert management and reported to work anyways. Then he tried to conceal the fact he was symptomatic while at work. Our managements response has been less than stellar.
Such an awesome story. Thanks for the update!
There has been times I’ve really debated with myself when considering a large haul.
Every time I’ve done went all in I have not regretted it once it came time to count the cash. Lol!07/13/2020 at 8:26 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 471: Building Equity, Our Free Scavenger Education #79521Items in Store 1354

New Listings 18Best sale of the week: $50 for a set of left hand golf clubs.
Why is this the best sale? Because as I was going to my car at Wal-mart Saturday the person next to my car asked if I was left handed. I said no, and they said they had these golf clubs in their car for over a year and they were tired of them taking the space. I said “well if you’re giving them away I’ll take ’em.” Loaded them up, snapped some photos when I got home to put on facebook, and had them sold within a day.Another fun tidbit: I keep finding Jack Lalane juicers this year. The first one I listed sold the same day I found another one. So I shipped the first one and listed the second one. This Saturday I found another one at a yard sale. The one already listed sold within hours of picking up the new one. Weird!!!
Depends on the market and experience. If I know without a doubt I could get $100-200 more if I wait a few months I’ll wait. Sometimes though, you take what you can get. There’s always more stuff to sell.
I just piggyback off of my wife’s facebook so I can use marketplace and follow a few businesses/groups. I deleted my personal facebook a looooonnnng time ago – probably 9-10 years ago!
Her facebook profile is locked down tight. People can’t even find her profile unless they are friends with someone already on her friends list – which is kinda hard since that list is pared down to about 60 people.
I got this message from someone who made me an offer that I accepted shortly after acceptance:
I’m about to buy the item, I just need to know:
Any holes rips stains or smells ?
Any fabric peeling ?
Any damage?
Was it worn often?
Does it fit loose or tight?
I do not plan on responding at all. I’ll just let this item go to unpaid item and hope they walk away.
Sometimes you just get “those buyers”. They cannot be satisifed.
So just to be devils advocate here, where did you purchase this head? If you bought it new yourself from the original store, then you know it is good. If you bought it at a thrift store then there is absolutely the possibility it appeared new but was actually used. I’ve had this happen to me.
07/06/2020 at 10:31 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 470: How Would You Start Your Business Today? #79128There is nothing more satisfying than going to your box pile and pulling out the PERFECT size box for an unusual item. It’s almost as if a light shines down on it and heavenly angels break out in song.
07/06/2020 at 9:48 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 470: How Would You Start Your Business Today? #79120Originally ebay profits were “fun money”. Over the years I’ve been working up to paying more of my recurring monthly bills with ebay funds. I started with a car loan, then I pushed myself to try and get the mortgage payment too. Then occasionally a power bill, etc.
I can proudly say I now pay all of my recurring bills (car loan, mortgage payment, utilities, cell phones, car insurance, etc) with ebay funds quite regularly. I keep all of my credit cards zeroed out every month. Other than mortgage and one car loan ( which if things keep going well I’ll pay off early before the end of the year), I’m debt free.
This allowed me to max out my HSA contributions and increase my 401K contributions with my day job paycheck. My dayjob paycheck goes into another checking account that I (thankfully) can just let grow now. I have more cash reserves now than I’ve ever had in my life, even after several large unexpected expenses and several vacations this year. It is AWESOME!
Our long term goal is a home addition. We’ve planned it out, but the cost is pretty high. With the uncertainty in the world right now we don’t want to pull the trigger so for now we’ll just build cash reserves and next year if things have improved we’ll likely break ground on that.
