It’s been discussed here before, but give equal attention to getting your Sell through rate to grow as well. I think we’d all prefer to stay inventory neutral by listing 100 things a week AND selling 100 things a week.
I’ve come across a few dolls that just creeped me out something fierce. I always end up not buying them because I don’t want them in my house. The scavenger in me reaaallllyyy tries to talk me into it though.
My thoughts during that episode for how I would respond if I did sell these dolls would be like this:
“I can’t tell you if it’s haunted or not, but I can tell you that this doll makes me very uncomfortable and I feel like it is truly looking at me. I don’t like having it in my house.”
So I wouldn’t be lying, and I don’t confirm or deny the haunting. They can interperet my answer how they want and can ask follow-up if they want to get their jollies out. A basic rule of thumb for any item you sell is to NEVER answer subjective questions. Stick to facts or simply decline to answer the question.
Another basic rule: Don’t let a potential buyer keep bugging you. Have a line drawn for when you will tell them you’ve told them everything there is to know and re-direct the conversation back to buying the item. I assume these haunted item buyers are very similar to the “well worn” buyer crowd.

I try to stick to sourcing items with known sales metrics. In all the sales I’ve ever had on ebay, I can only thing of a single sale that happened almost instantly after listing. I don’t think it was because it was valuable either – I think it was because the buyer had a saved search for that specific thing. So me listing things high starting auction is just an added step that won’t generate regular benefit. If once every few years I leave $100 on the table I am fine with that.

Average sales price $27.33A slow week but I haven’t actively listed in weeks so I’ll take it. I’d love to say I’m getting ready to “spring clean” up my horribly cluttered ebay space but winter is returning this week…again. We might get 4-6″ of snow Saturday morning. Grrrr!!
I did get to do a burn pile last night to get rid of the massive pile of debris I accumulated from converting my garage to ebay space, so that’s a positive.
In regards to your discussion of veteran scavenger vs newer scavenger, I noticed another scavenger at Goodwill on Tuesday. It was a man with his mom. She pushed the cart and he was ferociously thumbing through every single shirt in the men’s department. They were both real excited and they had filled two carts. Then the man went through everything with his phone while standing right next to the checkout counter. They ended up putting back 2/3 of what they pulled. All the while I was calmly and non-chalantly pulling the diamonds in the rough. Once upon a time I would have felt threatened seeing this in “my” goodwill. I wasn’t this time. I was confident in two things: My abilities, and the fact that there is always plenty of stuff. I found it humorous to watch him because I saw me from 2 years ago in his actions and excitement. He did eventually stop by and asked me if I was a “flipper”. I responded that “I have an ebay business, yes.” We had a nice little talk and each shared a few tips. He was operating under the impression that to keep Top Rated, he had to jump through all the hoops of free shipping and free returns. I explained to him the difference between TRS and TRS+.
I’ve come to the conclusion that ebay is intentionally confusing the two programs so that folks like this man will go ahead and conform to their “seller mold” out of confusion and fear.
Anyways, have a great week everyone.
These are the opportunities you test your memory. When I notice something really nice at a yardsale I’ll memorize the make/model and then go to another spot to research to not draw attention to myself.
100 sales in your first month? Wow! Great work!
I use the “send payment reminder” option in the mobile app after 48 hours. Then I just let the auto unpaid item system to its job. It’s about 50/50 on people who pay with the reminder and unpaid claim.
I no longer send personalized messages. Some folks just don’t care. I don’t consider an item sold until money hits my paypal account. Makes it a lot easier to deal with unpaid items that way.As has already been stated multiple times, most goodwill donations have been in a closet unused for a long time. A large percentage are like new. I bet you have at least one pair of shoes in your closet you maybe wore once and just didn’t like, and likely don’t ever plan on wearing again. That is the type of shoe most of us go for.
Some people donate trashed, worn out shoes. They shouldn’t but they do. And yes, I will occasionally buy these trashed shoes if they are high end enough.Foot fungus? Not an issue.
For shoes my wife or kids call dibs on, I will thoroughly wipe down the insides with a bleach wipe a couple times. Not that it needs it, but it gives my wife peace of mind.
Surely I wasn’t the only one who caught Ryanne’s F Bomb in this weeks podcast? 😀

Best Sale: Thomas the Train Knapford Station – $200Pleasant surprise to sell the Thomas Train part this week. I figured it might sit until next Christmas. Sales volume was down this week but that’s much easier to swallow when a $200 item sells. The weather turning cold and crappy again after the time change really took the wind out of my sails. I’ve only listed like 14 items in the last month, and that was just finishing up photos of shoes that I had already created listings for. With baseball/softball taking up a lot of spare time right now, once the weekend hits my wife and I really just wanna Netflix and chill when not involved with the kids. I just don’t feel like listing because I’m too exhausted. Once the weather improves I’ll get back into it.
Speaking of Netflix & chill, we’re really digging Person of Interest right now. We just started season 3.
i was able to resolve this. I called paypal and explained the issue.
The rep released the hold so I could perform the refund.
Once the hold was released I could refund the case through ebay like normal. In closing, ebay reps are still clueless and still making s#%# up as they go.
I concur whole heartedly with this statement. Why do I need to hit that stupid button when I am merely creating the listing exactly as ebay wants me to. The checker will resize the text and adjust spacing every single time.
As to the sunny days thing…
Before we bought the house we are currently in, we considered making an offer on another house. We toured it on a nice day and loved it. We pondered it, and decided to come back for a second viewing just to look it over one more time before putting in our offer. The followup viewing was on a very rainy day.
At the seond viewing the house REEKED of the most horrible dog smells you could imagine. We ended up talking to a neighbor who said the previous owner operated a puppy mill out of the house. It wasn’t just bad, it was overwhelming throughout the house. The added moisture from the rains brought out what was lurking beneath.
I am sooo glad we went back on a rainy day. It would have sucked to have been stuck with that.
I’m gonna have nightmares after seeing the room with the 3D cherubs on the wall and the creepy gold clowns sitting at the table.
03/22/2018 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Buyer Requested Invoice for Shipping, Clicking Send Invoice Removed it from GSP? #35893I just had an item to china where the buyer requested an invoice which kicked it out of GSP. The buyer acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about. You sending an invoice or the buyer requesting an invoice will kick the item out of GSP.
I don’t see any other way this happened on my item because all regular international shipping is excluded on my listings. I even verified my listing when I relisted it.
Maybe there is some new bug with GSP going around.
