Sheesh, looks like he’s Mr Beast’s mini me lol. I was just thinking I miss the Scavenger Life podcast so had to come check the website out for old time’s sake. Hope you all are doing well!

Number of Items Listed: 210Good week for me, It helps to sell a $90 shirt and had someone come through and buy 7 hats in one order. I started sales on my store and it seems to have really helped multiple quantity orders. Yesterday I had someone buy about 30 patches for $165. They were patches I bought from a guy set up like a flea market at a gas station. I got about 1,000 patches for $250 and the great thing is there were multiple quantities of them so they’ve been recurring income from the same listings for months. I’ve easily made $1,000 profit and still have many more to sell.
It seems like maybe the beginning of the end of summer slow down is here. I hope Q4 is a good one, I’d like to throw a bunch of much money into my 4.2% savings account while I can still get that rate 🙂

Number of Items Listed: 210Thanks, yeah I just use an old Dell laser printer I’ve had for like 8 years that I got at a yard sale. I buy the label on eBay and then when I print I set it to the #10 envelope option and it works great
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll pick up a Gameboy or DS or digital camera if I come across one. Not gonna pass up on a quick $50+ profit for something I can throw in a small box. I do have an antique booth that I stock once a month and sell the stuff like sewing machines and typewriters but I just dust them off and sell as is lol. Not worth it to spend the time when I only make a few hundred bucks a month profit from the booth.
I’d love to be a pocket knife seller. So many $100+ items in that niche but tell me where I can find a truck load of them lol
I would add that you have to deal with making new listings for all the different categories, researching prices, all the different sized items, how to ship them, store them, test them etc.
It’s like any other niche, the more you learn about it, the easier it gets to source. I get lucky every now and then and come across someone with thousands of patches and that keeps me good on inventory for months. The main thing I’m curious about is if I get my store up to 50,000 listings like the biggest store in the niche, will we both have enough demand to sell a similar amount of items. He doesn’t do best offers so I’m hoping that will give me an edge.
There’s still more for me to learn and other sourcing methods I haven’t tried. I’ve barely dipped my toes into boy scout patches cause I thought they were slower sellers and go for cheaper but then I stumbled across this guy’s store and was quite surprised at his sell-through and how many patches he’s sold for hundreds of dollars.
Running a patch store isn’t easy, it takes a ton of listings just to make any kind of decent money. I think every reselling method is hard in it’s own way so you just have to choose your hard.

Number of Items Listed: 210How’s it going gang? Been a long time since I’ve posted. Glad to see you’re still hanging around here and doing well on eBay. I don’t remember what my status was the last time I posted but I’m back to working a 9-5 after trying full time for a year. Just didn’t have the right strategy to earn what I wanted to.
IDK if anyone remembers but I’m the guy that was building up a big store with patches. I’ve flipped flopped different niches over the past few years but ever since they allowed patches to be shipped with eBay standard envelope back in November I’ve gone back to listing 99% just patches. I’ve got about 12,000 listed and a couple thousand hats. I’m kinda tired of hats and don’t make a ton more profit from them vs patches so I’m going all in and want to be the biggest patch store on eBay.
It’s going to take more than listing 30 patches a day to become the biggest store (the biggest store has over 50,000 patches) but I’m just listing 30 now until my sales catch up closer to what I list. If I get to where I’m selling 30 a day then I should make about $50k profit a year which would be pretty sweet.
30 a day may sound like a lot for a side business but I can take photos in a couple minutes and list about 1 per minute. Shipping is a breeze as well now that I can just print the label directly onto the envelope.
He doesn’t use a sku.
He goes to his orders page, clicks on the sold items listing page to see when it was listed. Goes to the color and there are a few date sections within each month. So if it’s a black shirt listed on 1/1 the he checks the black shirts listed in the first part of January section.
The main way you could mess this system up is by hanging the clothes in the wrong date section but that’s a lot harder than forgetting to change a sku
Yeah, the job situation could be much worse! I’m also making $7k more a year than I was at the job I had before I started selling full time so that was a nice outcome as well. The insurance is cheaper than the old company too.
Looks like I’ve averaged about $80 a day selling patches so far this year. I sell about 3 hats a day on average so I am getting over $100 a day with patches and hats.
Surprisingly, I haven’t had any trouble buying patch collections. If I can’t find some of the nicer types, there’s always a lot of people selling boy scout patches. Scout patches are slower moving than other patches but they do sell and you can get them cheap. It’s just a volume game and you have to be patient – like list patches for years kinda patient lol.
How’s it going guys?
Been a long time since I’ve posted here. Glad to see a few folks still hanging around and making money on eBay.
I went back to working a job in October last year. I didn’t really want to, but 2022 just didn’t work out like I thought it would with selling things. We also had several large expenses come up and the savings account got slimmer than I’d like.
I’m working 100% remote at least and don’t talk to my boss or co workers very much at all so that’s nice lol. I’m designing roof and floor trusses for houses so I mainly just look at the plans that are sent in and start designing.
As far as eBay goes, I’m still listing patches and have been doing that exclusively this year. I’ve got about 10,000 patches in my store and list 25 a day. It’s a breeze since I just sell similar off my old listings and all of my inventory is in one closet. I’m getting close to selling about 20 items a day and I’m just going to keep trucking at this rate until I’m selling 25 a day. I also have over 2,000 hats in my store but I don’t list those any more and I’ll be glad when they’re all sold.
I want to pay off our house early and eBay will be a big help in doing that. Maybe once we don’t have a mortgage I will consider going full time again. Baby number 2 will be here in August and it’s nice having good health insurance to cover that. I guess there are SOME positives with a regular job..
Let’s fire up the old weekly numbers one more time to see how I’m doing now that this is a part time gig again:
Items in store: 12,182
Quantity Sold: 131
Gross Sales: $1,052.48
Net Sales: $686.89
Cogs: $65.5
Net income: $621.39
Well, if it’s a car that people mod out, I know just the type of guy this probably was lol. Plus most people shopping for cars in that price range aren’t your friendly scavengers, they’re just broke.
I’ve had some luck as well at garage sales lately. I picked up 7 vintage wrestling shirts last week for 10 cents each (I just gave them a dollar and told them to keep the change lol) and I’ve already sold 3 of them for $220 total!
Weekly sales 5/29 – 6/04
Total items: 10461
Items sold: 250
New items listed: 350
Gross sales: $1,966.71
Net sales: $1,253.61
New buyers: 167
Repeat buyers: 10My average sales price was down this week but I had a lot of people buy more than one item so that always helps profits when I can ship them all for the price of one. Just trying to get through summer and hopefully see sales jump later this year.
