I’m finally able to log in again!
I’ve been wanting to post this for awhile regarding PirateShip and cubic rate shipping.PirateShip is best used for international and small, heavier items that qualify for cubic rate priority shipping.
Here is an example of the wonderfulness that is PirateShip.
I just sold a Schlage keypad lock system. The box was small, but weighed 6 pounds. To send this to my Zone 8 customer would have cost $23.81 using regular priority, but since it only measured 9x7x4.5 inches, that put it in the .2 cubic rate category. I paid $8.92.
As you can see, this is a huge cost savings. I strongly recommend that you measure your boxes and consider cubic rate for your shipping!
Hey! I’m seeing them in best match and lowest to highest. Weird.
After all this hubbub, am I the only one still seeing promoted and organic listings of the same item in the search stream? Have they backed down? Not implemented it yet?
https://imgur.com/4ySTfWQYa, it’s the bot issue I’m running into. It’s not letting me post the item and suggests I need to do multi quantity, which makes no sense in this case.
The item specifics are the same from the available lists, because they are the same. What’s different is the actual measurements and the location of the light stains on the work shirts. The only place I can make note of the differences is in the pictures and in the written description, but even though those are different, the bot is still flagging me for having identical items.
I guess it’s the title I need to be more creative with, but again, how many different ways can you say:
“Wrangler FR Fire Resistant Workwear Shirt Gray Long Sleeve Button Front Size Large” ?
Sounds like you handled it correctly. Ebay is collecting sales tax now for more and more states. It’s out of our hands. It will probably take awhile before customers realize this. The days of avoiding sales tax on the internet are quickly coming to an end, sadly.
Our Founding Fathers were opposed to “taxation without representation”, but they should see it WITH representation! Argh!
09/28/2019 at 12:24 pm in reply to: Not Receiving Promoted Listings Credits for Anchor Store nor Top Rated #68361This has been a recurring issue for me since April. On my April invoice I was credited for my March promoted listings, but on my May invoice I was again credited for the March listings instead of my April. I called and they manually adjusted it.
Fast forward to last month and I had no credits for my July promoted listings on my August invoice. It took me a few phone calls before the employee understood my problem. The first said she did, but I later received an email telling me the credit appears on the next invoice for the previous month. I was like, I know that and that’s what I’m saying. It didn’t. I called again and they said it would be “sent up the ladder”. I finally got the credits, but once again they did it by crediting various other fees which really screws up the accounting.
Thankfully this month I just received my credit for last month. I’m hopeful things are finally fixed. But dang, it’s a pain in the butt.
Jay, it should show up on your invoice under “miscellaneous credits” and show as “etrs Promoted listings Q2 (or whichever quarter it is) Credit (month) transactions.
I’m as surprised as you!
I’ve seen the publicity she generated, mostly in British fashion magazines. I’m actually curious to learn what her press connection is over there. She appears to still be a small business, but as I said, she does have retail partners in her area and is expanding. She knows the science of what she’s created, but the tech side of business is apparently new to her.
We met earlier this month at an annual concert festival we both attended. Of all places! We were both at an after party in one of the hotel courtyards and just ended up in conversation. We connected on Facebook before parting ways. The next day she commented to me that she was impressed with my history in politics. (I used to be a political consultant, but dropped it as a career in 2015 for my own mental health.)
There is nothing in stone yet. Last night I sent her a message with some ideas I had and requested that she give me a call to discuss further.
Not sure where this will go. Could be huge. Could be nothing. I guess the lesson is just to always be networking. You never know who you will meet and what opportunities are available.
Thanks for the response. I tend to agree with you.
I’d want to create a new store to be exclusive to this product. Mixing with my own detracts from the high end nature of the product. The question would be whether I do it myself or operate it through her account. Both have pluses and minuses.
I like the idea of working out payment terms. If I was purely retailing, I wouldn’t want to be saddled up front with high inventory costs for an item I’m unsure will sell. Ebay is not the best platform for this, and I agree both Amazon and Etsy would be better, but I have no experience with either. I’m a quick learner though. Becoming the exclusive eBay retailer would be beneficial.
I’m prepared to take on shipping, handling, and storage up to a point. If things really took off, getting warehouse space and hiring someone wouldn’t be out of the question.
I’ve just sent a list of four different options to her to get the conversation started. I appreciate the additional voices though while going through this negotiation. Certainly helpful. Cheers.
My August impressions for promoted listings were actually down, but my September impressions are at new highs.
Well, here’s an update.
I listed it yesterday with the stickers and it sold in 24 hours for $39.99.
Note to future self. Don’t bother removing stickers. 🙂
While he can be a little annoying at times, I do regularly watch his videos and live stream. He runs a very large and successful business, though primarily in categories I don’t know much about. Lots of antique paper (postcards, ads, etc) and the like. His advice is often very good.
This though seems a little bit jumping the gun. I use the Brave browser which has built in ad removal, cookie blocking, etc. I still see sponsored listings in the stream. I would have liked for him to be more specific here.
I guess it’s something to monitor, but not freak out about just yet.
Debitendcredits, thanks for the input.
I’m naturally a “devils advocate” which makes me skiddish when things out of the norm take place.
You are probably right, but there is just something that itches me about losing control of the shipping process. If it were me, I’d just go with whatever my gut told me about the customer. If they had an established feedback history, and the item wasn’t some unicorn find for big money, I’d probably bite the bullet and go with it.Jordan, thanks for the update. Ya, if everything is documented in messages and ebay will have your back, then all is probably good.
Hi all. Thanks for the responses.
Of course if these were tags from Goodwill or an estate sale, I’d take them off.
These are the original store tags from Zany Brainy, which was a division of FAO Schwartz that went out of business in 2001.I think I’ll start with leaving them on. Even though it’s not that old, I am leaning towards thinking like Mark that it’s part of the “vintageness” of the item. I’m also worried that I could damage the box by removing them. I have a scotty peeler, but it’s never 100%. Retro also has a point. If they don’t like the price tag, they probably aren’t interested in the first place.
If they don’t sell for some reason I can always take them off and re photograph them later.
I have no money in these. A friend recently gave me a trunk load of stuff that they were downsizing. I got a couple vintage things in the mix that have some value. The rest I may just end up donating and keep up my relationship building with one of my favorite thrift stores.
I would caution against this. You have no control over the shipping if it’s under someone else’s account.
If this buyer got the FedEx account info illegally and isn’t the owner, once the item is delivered and the FedEx bill arrives, the owner of the account won’t pay the charges and FE comes after you.
After the item leaves you, someone contacts FedEx and redirects the item. Now they can claim non-delivery to paypal, you can’t prove the item was delivered to the right address (because it went somewhere else) and you end up with nothing.
You could charge him the difference and send it yourself, but I’d be very nervous about using a third party account.
