Mike @ MDCG,
“Tips we got from those who were successful in developing their own stores“….wouldn’t that be great?!!!Here’s my approach to training on titles, which I now have trained a number of VAs in on. Mind you, my goal has been for an eBay title optimization not other platforms or Google searches, though they may be optimized for those too coincidentally.
-no punctuation. No apostrophes, no periods, commas, slashes, etc.
-no words like: and, the, of, with, near, by, over, etc.
-clothing titles: brand then gender. Ex. Eileen Fisher Women Pant Wool Black Pocket Fully Lined Wide Leg Belt Loop
-measurements in item specific details, even if custom fields are made for certain measurements-because many mobile buyers don’t look beyond item specifics and open up the description section at all. I used to put my measurements there and would still get measurement questionsI don’t know if that helps you, but for sure I put my procedures in writing, give regular best practices tips, give regular specific feedback, and am going to start giving QC bonuses for good scores on QC testing I’ll start conducting and commissions on sales.
I come from a sales production environment. I get the whole thing about Six Sigma, Lean, etc. I’ve done a tone of root cause analysis in business analysis duties, but nothing motivates like monetary rewards.
There’s an old adage I live by, “production cures all woes”.
Cheers,

EBay says to not use plurals or apostrophes or punctuation, even if it’s not grammatically correct. The algorithm doesn’t read or allow for that. I think you removing the apostrophe was the reason for your successbcfol440,
A word about Chris Linning from daily refinement. My understanding is that he uses bots to share his items. While against PM rules, and if this is true. I can’t say as I blame anyone for resorting to this. I looked at Nicole State’s store, because she moved entirely off eBay and has a big store on PM. She’s selling a good deal of reseller boxes. I do love Little Black Hanger.I sold my first item with just 2 posts. You can sell because someone searched your item, of course, or you can share to get your item thrown into your follower’s or party feeds. It eliminates the whole bit about the search algorithm being the end all be all.
I’m considering putting all my commodity clothing on PM.
Happy selling fellow poshers!
I’ll add my items not listed elsewhere in this post, but not all are carried with me. An asterisk indicates it’s in my car:
*roll of packing tape
*ikea blue bag
jewelers loop
Lighted magnifying glass
Regular Scotty peelers
Mother’s Paste (polishes aluminum like a champ)
0000 steel wool (again for aluminum polishing)
Fingernail polish remover
Sweater shaver
Penny Bright copper cleaner
Dollar store wipes
SteamerI love this thread!!!!
Not sure if this is the best location for this comment, but there is a board on eBay for technical issues announcements and you can sign up to get the RSS feed on it. It’s located at: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/announce.shtml
there is also an area where an ongoing blog is kept for technical issues on eBay. It’s located at: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Technical-Issues/bd-p/technicalissues-db
Thought this may be useful information to some.
07/19/2018 at 9:15 am in reply to: shipping postcards & ephemera domestic & int'l with tracking #45813I have sent my 3rd postcard to an international location using the tracking provided by purchasing first class international PayPal. The PayPal interface creates the customs form for you, after you fill in the basic information about the item (e.g. what it is, quantity, value, etc.) I checked on the tracking of the first one. Here are the results so far when I click on the tracking number in the eBay desktop application in the sold order page (most recent on top):

It will be interesting to see what it indicates for the final international delivery. I paid less than 50 cents for these postcards. So, I guess I don’t feel the need to have a different type of tracking.

thanks for the tip on the international postcard club 🙂 I am also going to try PayPal for the first class domestic. I’ll let you know the results on this post.
I have a PM account. I sold my first item out of the first 2 items listed. Everything sells, even unbranded plain hoodies! You don’t have to do the social media sharing aspect on their site, IF you have items which are searched. Think of the searching aspect the same as promoted listings in eBay. Can/will it make a difference? Sure it will, but you don’t have to do it. I don’t have too many listings just because I can only spread myself so thin. The fact that you don’t have any insertion fees is a huge plus.
07/12/2018 at 6:29 am in reply to: shipping postcards & ephemera domestic & int'l with tracking #45203My listing info for the item was 3 ounces and letter. The options were found on the PayPal platform. I logged in separately to PayPal, found the sale in my activity transactions, and chose t o print directly from PayPal. I simply validated the item shipping details were correct in the PayPal platform, selected USPS first class international, selected calculate price, purchased the postage and printed the label all from the PayPal platform. The tracking information was added to the eBay listing automatically.
ChristineR, I’m also going through my listings and doing inventory this week for the same, ahem, reasons you are. I also have missing listings. I don’t have enough of a handle on my inventory to be able to track down what is going on though.
We are not in control of our stores from the street, so to speak. When someone enters our listing, they have yet to enter our store, they are still window shopping. Here’s the difference though, between online shoppers and brick and mortar shoppers: They can get all the detail at the window shopping level, they don’t have to cross the threshold and enter the ambiance of the shop itself. That takes a level of interest that isn’t required of an online shopper.
I always wonder what it would take to open a simple scavenger online store as a community. How far could we get collectively with our own pay-per-click money versus how much we all pay in overhead to eBayand other platforms? All of the other platforms are created with the buyer in mind. What would it look like on a platform with the seller in mind? No goods from China, no multi-quantity stock, no race-to-the-bottom, etc.
🙂
07/07/2018 at 7:33 am in reply to: Manage My Store –>Search Engine Keywords –> Not Working –> How to report it? #44673Ebaymom,
Could a tool from another site work? Also, it should be a comma, not a period. As in: Shop like nobody else, because you’re not like any body else.
07/06/2018 at 12:36 pm in reply to: Scanning Photos in eBay Listings & Reimbursement from eBay for Missing Photos #44602I always jump at least 5 or 7 minutes in on Lindey’s video because of the whole preamble business with this type of video. I didn’t note it though. sorry. Marjean28
RetroTreasures – regarding listing on inkfrog, I have found that the way to go, at least for me, is to use their profiles to speed up listing. I won’t go into it here, but you can create partial listing profiles to mix and match with boiler plate information for speedier listing. I use their master profiles for niche products which I know will be repetitive for me, such as postcards. I found that its not an issue to list at least 15 items an hour using that methodology. I think the thing that would speed me up the most is having a second monitor to view the images on one screen while using the master profile to create the listing on the other screen. That mostly has to do with my own vision issues though. I hope that helps! Marjean28
