An update: I received a message from the guy saying thanks for the cleats and sorry for giving us a hard time.
not sure why this was sent as a message and not left as feedback, which would have been more appreciated. Not responding, of course. Just glad the transaction is over.
You just reminded me of someone who bought something orange from me and then sent me messages about how much she loves orange. LOL It was weird, but at least she was nice. I guess some people just like the interaction and so any response is seen as encouraging that. Quarantining isn’t helping, I”m sure.
Got it, thanks for the advice!
Should I report the harassment to ebay? doesn’t seem like they would do anything about it but I don’t know.
I guess my fear in canceling it is that he’ll just make a new account and buy it again. I think he feels like he’s “won” now, so maybe that will be enough for him. This whole interaction has already been a week…it actually becomes more disturbing to me the more I think about it.
I love that bit about when you were younger, Jay, and the notebooks full of dreams. Relatable content. Lol I just turned 30 (June 4th), still have the notebooks, still have (some of the) same dreams. I still feel young but I enjoy getting older. I finally feel like I’m living life on my own terms. Anyway, happy belated birthday to you both!
The thing I find strange about feedback is that you can’t leave negative or neutral feedback for a buyer. This definitely feels like something that’s left over from the 90s—the idea that buying something off of eBay is a risk and that buyers must be super protected. I both buy and sell on eBay and I definitely only receive “scammy” messages from people trying to buy my items, because eBay protects us all as buyers from receiving those types of messages from sellers. It’s like they tried so hard to get away from that scammy reputation, they actually tilted things the other way. A tip I think I picked up from you guys is just not leaving feedback as a seller. I’ll leave it after someone leaves it for me, but I don’t go out of my way to leave it because the dynamic is already skewed in the buyer’s favor. If they want to leave a comment great, if not, I’m not going to prompt them by leaving feedback for them because they might leave a negative which is worse than just not getting feedback at all.
Oh that’s a pretty cool piece, I would have picked it up too. Okay, you’ve convinced me. I’m going to send him an email. If he doesn’t reply then I’ll just list it and hope for the best. It’s well framed, I don’t want to ruin it.
The one I have isn’t on the website…which I guess could mean it’s by a different artist with a very similar style…I think I”ll try a reverse image search (never successfully done one lol) or else the only way to find out will be to ruin the frame. :/
I recently got my first neutral feedback as well. The buyer said that the package arrived two weeks late. Since I sent the package out less than 24 hours after he placed the order, I tried to have the feedback removed with eBay. They did not remove it. Still don’t understand why. Their suggestion was to just write an explanation under his feedback so I just wrote that I shipped the package within 24 hours. Some important details is that it was an international package being shipped during a global pandemic obviously lol. So I’m not sure why he expected to receive it in less than a month. eBay seems to believe he was justified in his expectations though.
