I’m interested in just trying Kimchi – if anyone has a pre-packaged version they can recommend, would love to hear what someone else likes.
Jay is on the track to be an average Korean family with a regular fridge and a Kimchi fridge – soon he will be pulling a fridge from a rental property to just store Kimchi in.
It always kills me that Chinese (and other SE Asian) sellers can ship for essentially free.
I buy electronic components/parts in bulk form a few Chinese sellers on eBay. They usually ship me 2-4 lbs. worth of components in a box and the TOTAL can be under $10. I am getting dozens or hundreds of components, and shipping, for less than I can ship a parcel to my neighbor.
It’s really frustrating. And why does our governments (I’m in Canada – but the same situation applies) accept this mail abuse from China?
24 hours ago, I never heard of Lalique…then I watched the BBC show “Bargain Hunt” and one of the contestants was looking all over a flea market/antique show for Lalique glass. He found this little fish that looked like a yellow and slightly larger Swedish Fish candy, that was Lalique glass. It was 80 GBP. I would have thought it was some cheap bathroom accessory from Target.
Then I listen to the podcast this afternoon, and Jay mention that Lalique would make his heart race if he found some. I’m sure myself, and many others would have easily walked past many Lalique glass items in the past.
I’m doing a quick Google Image Search to get a visual education on what the various Lalique glass items look like – and BOLO for them in the future.
I’ve always used MS Paint to make a collage and add text/graphics (which you are not supposed to do) on some items.
Would be interested if there is an easier way as well – I’m sure something better has been put into an app since the early 1990s.
I don’t know if this works all the time, but I had a “Suspicious Buyer” in January.
I had already shipped the item…however, I decided to cancel the label (I buy my labels through PayPal – not sure if other services offer the same option) to see what would happen.
What happened was:
-PayPal gave me all the money (original item cost and shipping) as I had shipped the item and loaded tracking information
-the item was returned by the Post Office for having invalid postage. No cost to me.
-the postage I paid for was also refunded by the Post Office once the cancellation request cleared. So, I was paid for an item, plus shipping, and got to keep the item (since it was returned). Usually I’m out on these situations, so I was happy (and kept quiet) about getting something for nothing back from eBay/PayPal for once.
Local organizations have these in our area – we help with the local SPCA with items from my work in a basket.
I guess it all depends what is being offered – most of the items I’ve seen at penny raffles are usually gift cards, baked goods, local services, or overstock items from local businesses.

For me to have those numbers, I need to go to about 2-3 thrift stores a week, and pick up 10-20 good items/week from those locations.
10-15% of my inventory sold in a week is my typical track record, with 20-25% being a good week with inventory levels at 100 items or slightly above.
For me, when I keep replenishing what I sold, it is easy to make close to $2000 a month with the same inventory/turnover.

I first started out as an eBay seller with Baseball Cards only – most of those are now worthless today and if I built up a huge inventory, I would have been burned over a period of several years as the market tanked. If I kept with only selling Baseball Cards, I would be out a lot of money.
I then started to figure out other items would sell, and slowly diversified as my knowledge of other categories was expanded. I haven’t sold a Baseball Card in over a decade.
I personally don’t think eBay will last forever – something new and shiny and better will come along one day – but for now I think it is safe, and inventory can be moved to the next platform that comes around.
02/26/2018 at 4:26 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 349: Having A Huge Inventory Is Not The Goal, It’s The Strategy #33921Here are my monthly running stats for February:
• Total Items in Store: 105
• Items Sold: 23
• Total Profit $782.43
• Highest Price $78 Bike Saddle
• Items Listed this Month: 20
• Cost of items purchased this month $58 (20 Items – Only Items Listed This month).Enjoyed the podcast – especially the “Spectrum” of sellers goals on eBay. I like to flip my items as fast as possible, never have a death pile, and would love my inventory to be zero! But I understand the other end of the Spectrum you play, small gambles, big inventory, bigger payoffs.
I love the quick flip – for example, I found a vintage radio this weekend for $4 at a local Goodwill. Looked at the sold items (while in-store) on eBay and see they sell consistently for $40 to $50. I listed mine for $35, sold in a couple hours! I could have listed for $50, waited, and competed against other sellers, but my item isn’t unique, and rather not compete and flip it fast.
I’m not sure how much money I leave on the table with my strategy – I’m sure some items I can get more for them, but do I want to wait? Also, when competing on an item where 20, 50, or 100 similar items are already up, the cheapest always sells first, and the others occasionally get lucky. I rather sell, pocket the profit, and move onto the next flip.
It would be interesting to see what the Spectrum of eBay sellers looks like – it probably is more of a square with Used/New items on one axis, and “Quick Flip” or “Buy and Hold” on the other.

Same goes for reel to reel tapes, “blank” cassette tapes, etc. Someone will take the time to erase them for their needs to save a few dollars.

If every small town has one guy like this, that takes the hobby to the extreme and also supplies films/TV shows with props, there is a lot of interest out there.
Anything pre-Windows PC area I find an easy sell – and even items from the early 2000’s are getting to be collectable.
I’ve sold a couple old UNO sets over the years – I usually ask $10 and they take awhile to sell if they are in good condition. I just pulled down some UNO sets in the last couple months I had up for a few years that didn’t sell.
It’s one of those items that is common, and almost everyone had one at some point and they are still available at any toy/game store – so it will be challenging to sell.
I went scavenging Saturday, and managed to list 20 items in the afternoon (2.5 hours) on Sunday. Most of the items were similar to ones I have listed or items I just sold so it went very quick.
Noticed that this is the first time I’ve listed anything since November 16th…but now I’m back to using up all my free 100 listings.
I just got upgraded from a iPhone 6 to iPhone 7. Prior to the upgrade, the eBay app was slow and crashing all the time – on my new phone it works great.
Might have something to do with the slowdown with battery age that Apple admitted to that made my 6 app really painful.
I only use the app for notifications, or looking up items when I’m scavenging. Still use my PC for everything else.
It has Arabic script on it – in the box on the second photo in the upper right.
Based on the subject matter, terrain, animals, etc. I would place it in one of the “Stans” – Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan. Could also be from a Muslim region of India, China, or Bangladesh.
