I’ve played around since the change, and will be using Snap Ship on Canada Post when there is a discount (like “Free Shipping Tuesday” – my favourite promotion), and use PayPal shipping otherwise.
Shippo has been comparable for small items, but for larger items (Expedited) is always $3 to $5 more. At the moment it could be the 15% discount making the difference.
The PayPal shipping system still feeds shipping information into eBay, therefore it is almost as painless as before.
@theMezz – Like your system, I have a similar system but use Ziploc bags for everything – do you have the part number of the Dymo labels you use? I have tried other labels in the past, but they leave residue and switched back to the bags which are obviously more expensive.
Another thing I do is for items I 100% know will sell, I just pack them up in a box/envelope and write the code on the box/envelope where I would add the shipping label. Saves a lot of time as well when you need to ship in a pinch.
I have thought about doing this as a buyer when I know shipping costs are out of line, or if it is a large item and I know my discount would save me $10 or more dollars in postage.
I have never acted upon it, but thought it was a good idea to print and provide my own labels to sellers.
As a seller, as long as it is my usual shipping service is used by the buyer, and a the tracking number, parcel dimensions, and weight are all correct and the address matches the address in eBay/Paypal, I would have no issue. I would see it as the same as buying the label outside of PayPal/eBay – just add the tracking info to the sales record and you should be OK.

I’ve been on the other end when I’ve purchased items that were not exactly what I ordered – and I wasn’t too happy! Especially if I have paid custom fees that are not refunded by eBay.
