Looks like it could be Hippolyte Fauvel. I’m down with a stomach virus but was able to find this link, which has a little bit of biographical information.
https://books.google.com/books?id=KU8BAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA535&lpg=PA535&dq=painting+hippolyte+fauvel%22&source=bl&ots=Uie_-QIuxL&sig=LfCiX11OkU0Hwk1KihnQNE3IK_I&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiCrI7WkavQAhUT22MKHdT8BZcQ6AEIGDAB#v=onepage&q=Hippolyte&f=falseAnd of four paintings that came to auction in 2005 and 2006, two didn’t sell, one sold for just under $200, and one sold for around $1000 I think. If you check findartinfo you can get the exact prices and make size comparisons.

Thanks, Jay & Sonia.
In retrospect, I have probably been too narrowminded and even, perhaps, “precious” about what I’ve been sourcing and listing. I might be doing better, even on this part-time basis, with a broader approach to what’s ‘interesting.’
I restarted the computer and all’s well. Thanks!
I think it’s me; other buttons on other pages aren’t working, either. Curses!
Thanks so much.Hi, Ryanne!
I think that’s a brass plaque version of an Albrecht Durer painting called “Young Hare.”

I had no idea about Polar Express hot chocolate mugs. I’ll have to look those up; thanks for the tip!
I called in and left a bid on a painting at a local auction Thursday, but I was outbid by $30. That’s okay; the bid I left was more than I wanted to pay. Now to watch and see if the painting goes up on eBay. 🙂
I don’t do any dumpster diving, but have found amazing pieces at the “free house” at our local dump. I’ve found and sold signed studio art pottery, original signed art by listed artists, architectural salvage, designer purses, shoes, antique books, persian rugs, antique sheet music, and more. One of my favorite sources for sure!
I, for one, am terrified. There are, in fact, NOT plenty of workable options out there. We were paying nearly $1,000 a month in insurance premiums before Obamacare, and that was when everyone was completely healthy. We’re older now, and there have been some health issues over the last few years that will certainly be “pre-existing conditions” in the eyes of health insurance companies looking to charge increased rates or exclude us altogether. I’m looking into conventional employment, but there’s not much out there that fits my schedule and my sort of irrelevant skill set.
If I may say so, I feel utterly heartbroken by the results of the election.
I didn’t mean to sound like an @ss earlier. Of course we all do happy dances when we find great stuff. I guess I just got hung up on the word “brag.” 🙂
I’m almost sure that’s not African art. I feel like it’s more Mayan/Aztec/Mezoamerican somehow, but I could be wrong. I didn’t have any luck on the signature; could be “Grundy” but I couldn’t turn up any similar works.
11/07/2016 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 283: Running Our Businesses Without A Safety Net #5253Jay, if I’m reading it right, these are free USPS/eBay co-branded boxes, not “free with voucher eBay boxes.” I’m going to try to order some now!
You might want to add the word “censer” as well.
It looks a little like a vintage Crown Victoria or other old car logo but I couldn’t find an exact match.
Those are really nice scores, but I think ‘bragging rights’ accrue with completed sales, not finds… unless you’re planning on keeping the pieces! 🙂
That said, I’ve been home with sick kids all week and haven’t gotten out to do any buying at all, so those scores are looking pretty good from here.
