I purchased the Zebra LP2844-Z used on eBay of course for about $40. It has been plug and play.
This was a recommendation I heard from eBay radio’s Griff.
The old method of cutting and taping seems ridiculous now.
I’m not sure but wouldn’t FB have less scammers? You can see their real name and a photo and maybe more background on FB.
Craigslist is packed with anonymous scammers trying to do counterfeit checks and wire scams, both on the buyer and seller side.
Hi Sam,
So it sounds like you are not a true “scavenger” either, i.e. finding stuff at thrift stores, auctions, etc. Is that right? Are you importing stuff? I’m not asking for sourcing details. Just wanting to see the range of other people that follow this forum. I’ve learned a lot here.
Greg
I may be a bit late here but I couldn’t agree more with Ryan to use blogger. I’ve used all kinds of hosts, including wordpress.org, wordpress.com, yahoo, others…
But the very easiest quickest way to get up a cheap website is to register the domain at Google Domains for $12 per year and then let them host it on blogger. (Which I believe they will offer to do after you register).
I think you’d need something better if you want it be a shopping site but otherwise these are great. Just go with some template you like to minimize time wasted over little details.
The only reason I might need something better would be to add a shopping cart.

I think it’s funny that you guys are talking about intentionally buying a gray background material. Gray is what I get for free when what I really want is white.
I have a white plastic rectangle purchased from Michael’s for cheap. I think it’s about 3′ x 2′. I can take a photo out in the bright sun and the background is still gray.
Also, Old Dad, in your sample above you used some kind of “sharp filter” and did shift the background from gray to white – is that right?

And you’re using obsolete software which I totally think is smart. Especially for Microsoft which seems to just bring software bloat with each new revision.
As soon as I spent more than 1 hour on a photo is when I decided to hire it out. Plus I’m using the same photos over and over so the expense is negligible.
If I were selling clothes and unique items my goal would be to do have a setup that takes zero editing. I’d forget about that white background thing. Google photos offers some simple filters that can whiten it up a bit.

I found someone on Fiverr that does 15 photos for $5 and stopped doing this job. It was a relief.
Nonetheless I still spend a lot of time getting just the right photo. So do my competitors.

Since this thread has shifted over to printer choices…
I like the price of that Dymo 450 that Jay mentioned. But are those labels big enough for the normal eBay label? The photos don’t look like there is space for our return address.
08/12/2019 at 11:23 pm in reply to: HOW can a 4 lb rural mailbox for $15.79 be FREE shipping? I just don't get it! #66297I picture a huge staff of people creating listings according to some formula I think this will show up with Home Depot labels on it. This must work because I’ve seen a bunch of ebay accounts using Amazon.
Thanks Amatino.
No it actually confuses me a bit. i think they are talking about configuring the browser but still on a PC or Mac.
I’m going to just take the path of least resistance and get a PC and connect it to a label printer of some sort. The two will become kind of an old school specialized workstation.
I remember Griff on eBay radio raved about the Zebra LP 2844 and said it takes standard labels. I see good used ones on ebay. Or do you think Dymo is just as good?
Thanks “Old Dad”.
Are you saying Bling It removes the background without any touch-up needed? When I looked into this I could easily draw a “lasso” loosely around my object with Pixlr (it’s like photoshop) and remove the bulk of the natural background.
But then there were many other artifacts that had to be dealt with. The only way to get it right was to zoom way in, almost to the pixel level, define the exact border I want as I slowly traced around the object.
Here is a YouTube video illustrating the process. (She is experienced and make it look easy)
I also noticed eBay said at the last open they are adding a tool to do this. But then they have delayed the release. Maybe they have the same challenge.
Thank you Jay.
I’ve been at it about a month. Originally I wanted to sell big panels that I would import. I never figured out the shipping. Just the carton for these is really expensive let alone the shipping.
So I shifted to smaller items I could obtain mostly locally.
This is the first thing I’v encountered that I’ll need to abandon chromebook for. Virtually everything else I can do with a browser or in the Google cloud.
Oh well.
Thanks!
eBay of course. I’m kind of sentimental about eBay and have followed for years stories that switch from day jobs to eBay.You sound pretty technical Indy. Good work. I haven’t compiled anything since I learned how to program in Pascal years ago.
I had to google Ubuntu.
