I can’t find it, but Ebay at least briefly sent a short promo video to me saying the average sales bump was over 20%. I’m certain that is unlikely.
This is a good point. It’s a great time to make best offers on Ebay as a buyer.
06/11/2018 at 9:27 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #42132Hi, I was happy to finally get back to listing and should get some time this week too. Life is calming down and I had to rewrite my to do list since I got some things done. Listed 17 items, 7 from death piles and I’m clear of newly thrifted items so filling up a box from the piles this week.
Total Items in Store: 381
Items Sold: 8
Cost of Items Sold: $47 + 22 free shipping
Total Sales: $246
Highest Price Sold: $50 Textbook (ours)
Average Price Sold: $30
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $12
Number of items listed this week: 17This week felt very slow, no action on several consecutive days, but numbers are pretty typical actually. Got back to listing as life was calmer even with a graduation. Should be a good week to slip in some listing and I tidied up and consolidated my new and used inventory. Lots of piles left but I definitely have made good progress. 🙂 Happy belated birthday Jay!
06/10/2018 at 11:45 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Vintage combs, Souvenir batting helmets, Soldering gun, Wind up car, Tilley Airflo hat, Pinup matchbook collection #42074Hey! I have my editing toolbar back. 🙂
Steve, so smart to use a video with mood music to show all of those cool matchbook covers. Filing that idea in my toolkit.
Ida, love the Halloween cat die cut. I have yet to find vintage Halloween stash but maybe when I start going to estate sales…This week was weird in that I sold a couple of very, very old listings and quite a few of my brand new listings from this week. Really need to do some stale listing maintenance maybe.
Celebrating this little sale today. One my oldest listings. Paid $2 I think. Good riddance – he got very, very close to ending up in the donation bin. Sticky listing – Midcentury Italian Vase
This was a cool vintage stationery sale, paid .99 at GW, sold super quickly. Hallmark Postalettes Check out this example I found while researching this – more similar solds for over $100. Bolo 70s cutsie character Hallmark stationery for over $100 Also, Peanuts Hallmark stationery is quite collectible and I find that these items are super easy to list and ship but overlooked locally.
Yeah! I sold one of my son’s textbooks without waiting for Fall. High School Textbook I think it helped pinning it and doing free shipping because there were some on Ebay listed for less. Got in a dig at Amazon as part of my description. I like listing books on Ebay. I usually tweak the titles and don’t just go with the catalog because I can add relevant terms that are missing.
This took a long time to sell, best offer of $50. Jars France Vase
Found a couple of these cool tray sets for $3.99 local thrift chain. I’m wondering what they are doing with them at the dentist office? NIP Vintage melamine tray set
VT, I think you had to have a certain minimum amount of sales. I’m TRS with a perfect shipping record and hardly any returns but didn’t get the offer. I’m only Bronze level because of lower sales volume.

It would be a nice sense of accomplishment to physically make a practical project like that, but I just don’t have the time. Sometimes I think it would be good to have a hobby like that, but really Ebay is my hobby with the bit of time I have for myself. I love to analyze and learn. I haven’t even read a book for the last several years…
06/05/2018 at 11:04 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #41730Thanks Amatino. Wow. I feel like half of the year is almost gone but I’ve only listed 272 items, and some are multiples. Makes me realize how much I was overbuying before when I started. It’s been a particularly busy Spring outside of Ebay. Summer should be better so hopefully I can get those numbers up. Thanks for tracking us.

06/04/2018 at 11:55 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #41629Felt good to list. I did indulge on a couple of thrift stops, so mostly listed that. 12 items, 2 from dp. I managed to squeeze in listing a couple of items 5 times this week, so I like that. I expect to have a slower time at my contract job during the summer and to be listing more. 🙂 I really need to reorganize my inventory and get back to listing a box of similar dp items.
I had an older coworker who told me that the time while your kids are young is so short and valuable when you look back. I’ve taken a huge pay cut to be with them while they grow up, but I’ll never regret that. We also get spendy on vacation locations once a year, maybe twice. Experiences are worth it to us not stuff.
Also, PS I got into guaranteed delivery and turned on free returns for certain categories of items – about half of my store, mostly first class, and some higher dollar flat rate box new items. I left free shipping on first class and also added a .75 handling fee across the board. I hope Ebay creates a mobile toggle for free returns. I didn’t get the free returns promotion.

Number of items listed this week: 12Slow week. I think it’s pretty liberating being older (I’m 49) and you really just don’t care what people think. I do like nice things, and I’m very happy to get them discounted on clearance / off season and mostly used. We buy reliable, quality cars just under luxury class – Subaru, Honda, Volvo one to two years used and get all the bells and whistles someone else paid for driving off the lot. Then we hold our cars a very long time. I feel like we are somewhere between your extreme frugalness and the Joneses. Definitely more toward your end on the spectrum than the Joneses.
We are fortunate to live in a place where either because of time constraints (working families), energy constraints (elderly), or no money worries (rich), and sometimes ignorance people get rid of really nice stuff. I have a plan to better capitalize on this in the future. There is less pressure in our area I think to buy expensive goods because it’s California casual and the LA race is not really happening in our smaller city.
06/02/2018 at 1:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41547This has worked for me as well, with my garage. I bring one box of like items at a time in the house except when I do some rare sourcing, then I try to get those listed first.

06/01/2018 at 2:45 pm in reply to: Selling my vintage stuff on Etsy to diversify and pay less fees…Worth it or no #41500Yes, kids are SO pricey but worth it of course! I think he has a partner so they probably share expenses too.
I really like Youtubers like this who narrate while they share sales – getting specific about what sells quickly, what is not worth handling and shipping if you can find merchandise easily, showing marks, trying other platforms, etc. Plus, no annoying pet baby talk. I’m thinking a lot lately about my pricing and moving stuff out. I’m getting .25 cent listing warnings now…somehow makes me pause vs. the old .20 cents. -
