Thanks ladies! If I get bored enough maybe I will work on business policies. Lots of projects to do. Inventory, COGS of remaining inventory. BUT I have a lot of smalls in my piles so that will take priority.

So will Fed Ex pick up if you have an account but don’t purchase the label through your account (but through Ebay labels instead)? I don’t have a lot of sales going on but it’s a pain to go through and edit everything since I don’t have business policies. Thanks!
Everything is closing down where I live in California other than essential businesses and take out / drive up services. Most people are taking it very seriously. My husband says the hospital is relatively empty in a calm before the storm prep mode. My office is already work from home. My day job is sitting at the computer so between that and my kids being off I’m not getting any listing done unfortunately. The schools are still trying to roll out online learning.
I’ve been shopping online – my daughter’s birthday presents, some pre-owned clothing. Also looking for bargains and sending low offers because I’m online more than usual. Strangely, because of our virus-related demand professions we will probably work and make more this year. A strange reason for feeling ok about continuing to shop online.
I would think as long as deliveries continue, people will continue and Ebay might benefit from other retailers’ delays, retail therapy, and people being on their phones. I’m watching Mercari for amateur listings but not sure if those people realize they can ship without going to the post office or are prepared to pack items. I think a lot of people will be cleaning out during the break, so I would expect a crazy amount of inventory donated after this. My mom FB groups are all talking about doing that. I’m very surprised the major retailers I follow with b & m exposure are not yet running good sales – I’ll be watching for that RA and later for GW online urban listings, though I don’t really need to do much sourcing.
Stay safe everyone!
Zero for me this week. I’m completely uncertain about what to expect from my day job. Could be crickets, could be crazy. We’ve been instructed to work from home. If crickets, I plan to get into the piles, even though the kids are home I’m guessing through summer maybe. Here in Cali we are not making any unnecessary trips and some of the thrifts are closing anyway.
There are no tested cases in my city yet but with all of the state closures people are really starting to freak out. My husband works intensive care at the hospital so we have already prepared to quarantine and stay away from my dad. I’m absolutely surprised and concerned at our country’s lack of preparedness and I’m not super confident in our local authorities but hopefully they are getting testing online in the next couple of weeks. The closures are a good thing and hopefully we can flatten the curve.
Wondering if sellers are considering tightening up return policies? Thoughts?
hurray! finally got on the board with 16 listings, 11 unique.
VL I love to buy fabric and linens too and not get to listing them.

Some people are stocking up on things – bulk groceries mainly. I’m a bit more concerned that my dad get his meds if things get disrupted later but he is only allowed to get so much from the insurance at a time. (My husband is a pharmacist and drug shortages are often a problem already.) The older men in my family are feeling poor already due to the stock market plunges and if people start stocking up on basics, it might possibly curb their appetite for random Ebay stuff.
I think it will run its course but right now it seems like all they have to do is more testing and they will likely find more US cases. I’m not feeling confident in the federal response to keep it as controlled as maybe it could have been.
2020 has not been a good time to stock my Ebay store. A lot of busyness and some struggles. So, I guess you can keep me on with zeros until I get back in the swing of things or just remove me. I still love Ebay selling but it’s had to go on the back burner for now.
Ebay is just sitting on the back burner unfortunately. We were college touring and I’m finally getting over my unusual month long ear infection. Sold a few items, so that’s great but no listings last week. February has always been my worst sales month. I hope everyone else in the challenge is doing better than me. I don’t even want to look at the spreadsheet yet. :/
Oh dear. Did not list this week. I did finish my bookkeeping and tax stuff and will turn that over tomorrow to the CPA. I’m also distracted with kid stuff.

02/03/2020 at 11:42 am in reply to: Just had a return request resolved by eBay’s “automated attendant”? #73619I had an email exchange with Ebay over a return I made. It reminded me to let Ebay know if I had been refunded or not (not), and then I opened a case and it almost immediately closed it and sent a refund and automated confirmation.
Meanwhile, I have a big return pending that the buyer has to ship by today. I’m hoping she doesn’t and it gets closed tomorrow (maybe with AI?).
Ugh. Just one for me this week. I’m staging myself for a big comeback. Ear infection, superbowl party, just life chaos and distraction.
01/30/2020 at 9:27 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 447: 2 Month Free Shipping Experiment #73470I can envision a campaign where Ebay would successfully emphasize that they have it all, including cool unique items not available anywhere else. Alas, I read they actually dialed back their advertising. Hopefully they are in the process of pivoting and not just profit taking.
01/29/2020 at 7:47 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 447: 2 Month Free Shipping Experiment #73450@My Cottage not sure that I’m qualified to opine on that. I know that Ebay is supposed to be 80% new offered for sale, but I don’t think I’ve seen stats on solds. I’m also not sure about how Google is treating Ebay these days – could be an issue for new item sellers in particular.
The article is interesting because perhaps the rise of Poshmark, etc. is not at Ebay’s expense so much so far, but more at the expense of the mall stores. However, since it is a big growth area and younger buyers are really embracing secondhand shopping, I would think Ebay would want to get on that – looks like they are missing that boat so far with the puny growth. Personally, I’d be a lot more comfortable buying more expensive used items on Ebay than on a smaller platform.
I’d love to see Ebay embrace and advertise what’s really great about Ebay – that you can find things here that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s not too late for Ebay to dominate the used market but I agree that they are slow to pivot and confused about the message. Also just techwise, they need to get their s*it together.
