Nov. 24-30
Items Sold: 4 items, on 2 Ebay, 2 Poshmark, 1 Mercari, 0 Etsy
Items in store: 162 Ebay
Total Sales: $ 76.xx before fees and some little free shipping
COG: Approx $20. Or you could count it as zero…
Highest priced item: Big seller was a LEGO set that I had bought a couple years ago around Christmas on sale. I probably made a $12 profit on a $20 purchase. I got a lot of interest and low offers but it eventually sold for the asking price of $32, which had been lowered from $38.Lighting, especially natural lighting was a challenge for me, and so I’m trying to get a set-up in my basement that will get me through the winter and any inclement weather.
Was grateful for the discussion of “NOT TESTED/NOT WORKING.” I have a piece of AV equipment that doesn’t have a battery pack. After seeing stars from the $300/$400 comps, I was bummed that I may take a big zero on this item. But I listed for $100, and will probably take any decent offer.
Listing was super slow last week with the holiday, but I enjoyed my family time.
This week, I am taking almost any offer. I want to get this stuff moving while I can. I imagine this week and next are the last shot I have for Christmas.
11/25/2019 at 2:15 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Boomboxes, Jean jacket, Sound Shaper EQ, Christmas ornaments #71056Giving this “what sold” video a try. This covers two weeks of sales and is my first ever what sold video. I’m playing with the idea of haul videos/’what’s new’ videos/what sold videos.
WordPress isn’t liking my embed code, so give this a look:
Instagram story: Chaotic Good What SoldNov. 17-23
Items Sold: 9 items, on 5 Ebay, 4 Poshmark, 0 Mercari, 0 Etsy
Items in stores: 160 Ebay (About the same)
Total Sales: $ 220.xx before fees and very little free shipping; average sell price around $22
COG: Lest than $10. Sold a couple books, a Ralph Lauren shirt that was a free pickup for my daughter, and a Hull wall sconce.
Highest priced item: $59 Trifari Owl Pin. Sold within 24 hours! Comps were in the $50 range, but it seemed to be a more rare item. I posted to both Poshmark and Ebay at the same time. When I got 4 offers on Poshmark within a couple hours, I knew I should wait-and-see. Sure enough, I woke up to a full-price sale on Ebay!
The Ralph Lauren shirt was another good sale at $39. Full price, easy to ship in a Tyvek mailer. More of those, please.I’m still struggling with posting items: There is just so much. I listed a couple ‘collectible’ toy lots, and started drafting more listings for those. While cleaning for a family visit, I found more boxes of items I intended to post a couple years ago.
Inspired by Jay and Ryanne, and everybody else on here, I am trying to figure out how to do an inventory system with no free space. I need to sell the stuff to get the space, but it’s hard to sell the stuff with no organization. I’m going to wait until after Thanksgiving to tackle that. I’m struggling with buying bins, since the budget is super tight. But if it helps me work better, giving me more time for listing and photographing, I know it will be worthwhile.
@Mummers Another newbie tip that I learned this year: You are also limited in total number of listings and value of listings. (At least without a store subscription, I’m still learning store stuff.)
So, for example, I think in August I was limited to 130 listings and a value of $1500.This may impact your ability to take advantage of those “200 free listing” offers. I had received a promotional offer of 200 free listings that I wanted to take advantage of. I couldn’t get to all 200, but I did use that to make it over my monthly 50 listings.
I called ebay customer service and asked about it. They said that it was based on your previous sales, and your feedback. I guess it’s designed to weed out or limit poor quality sellers. The call taker also told me that it was automatically re-assessed at the end of the month or every 30 days. Customer service did run a quick assessment and was able to bump up my limits, and they have continued to increase monthly.
OKAY, one more tip from someone who was using only free listings and just signed up for a store this week: You can make DRAFT listings and have them ready to go when you get those Free Listing Offers (or ready for the next month).
Happy selling!
@Jay You finally got through to me! I just don’t move very fast.
Last week was a solid week for sales, after a dismal week prior to that. And this week is pretty good so far. I don’t know if I shared, but 2020 is going to be an expensive year, with a new car payment and a doubling of the cost of health insurance. So I’m trying to get what I can out of this forth quarter and build momentum for next year.
Here’s my week: Nov. 10-16
Items Sold: 14 items, on 6 Ebay, 7 Poshmark and 1 Mercari
Items in stores: 160 Ebay, 157 Poshmark
Total Sales: $ 250.xx before fees and quite a bit of free shipping
COG: Lest than $10. There was a $10, pair of jeans that my daughter wore for 3 months and outgrew, and I paid $3 for a music box. The rest were freebies or from big lots.
Highest priced item: $47 (best offer) for a kitten music box from Limoges
Most surprising sale: $10 plus shipping for a 1960s Little Bo Peep Ammonia bottle. It was in a large lot I purchase, so someone was saving it on purpose. I listed it high at $20 based on comps, and it was worth it to not have to trash it and still get it out of my stash.Poshmark has picked up for me, especially with jewelry. I sold several pieces of holiday jewelry, and the only sweaters I had in my store.
On Ebay I sold three collectible books, including one that was returned a couple weeks ago.I’m also trying out a new cross-posting service that is in beta testing. It’s allowing me to relist items relatively easy on Poshmark. I think that has been helping to drive traffic and a couple of sales.
And in what I hope is a very positive move, I actually signed up for the ebay starter store. I was about to run out of freebie listings, and there’s still time in the month to go, so I decided it was worth it.
Last week was pretty bad. Two $20-something sales on eBay and one on Poshmark.
I did okay with listings, I’m at least making ground.
I did some sourcing this weekend, which at least was fun. I found a $70 iphone sleeve for 25 cents, some old art calendars that I’m going to see if I can sell, and a NFL pullover for 75 cents. This week is off to a decent start: Four sales (one of which was a return from last week) so far.
I think I’m finally going to sign up for the starter store. But I am also feeling the need to clear out some items from inventory that I don’t have faith in. (Yep, I’m identifying some “losers.”) With only so much space, and rock bottom COG, it doesn’t seem to make sense to hold on to them.
11/05/2019 at 9:33 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 435: List and Forget, Still Works For Us #70079Another great podcast, Jay and Ryanne. I almost called in with the same comment about Poshmark sellers. They can be really “extra.” For my Poshmark sales, all I can muster is some tissue paper, and a little note on cute paper (leftover scrapbooking paper). But I’ve received packages tied up with ribbons and beauty samples and hair ties. Sort of silly, but also sort of nice.
Here’s my week: Oct. 28-Nov.2
Items Sold: 10 on Ebay, Poshmark and Mercari
Items in stores: 150 Ebay, 190 Poshmark (one more than last week)
Total Sales: $ 104.xx before fees and some free shipping
COG: Minimal… $3?
Items listed: 8
Highest priced item: $20 for a set of egg coddlersI’m running a 3/$15 “sale” on Poshmark on some stale inventory. It’s not yielded any results yet, but I’m going to let it run through the weekend.
I’ve also started my Etsy store this week. My goal is to list 10 items a week until I get to 100 and then decide how big to get. I’m attracted by the lower fees, now that I have a better handle on shipping.I made it to 51! I’m happy to have used up all of my “freebie” ebay listings.
I’ve got some larger (in size) listings to take care of today, Nov. 1. Death to death piles!
I’m up to 46 for the month… Wondering if I can break 50 by tomorrow afternoon. It included two bulky items that I’m sure will sell quickly at the local thrift store, so that makes me happy.
I am a trash picker from way back! It embarrasses my husband, but I don’t care. He has ridiculous tales of his Grandpa’s trash picking.
I guess we just grew up in a way that accepted it. Grandpa-in-law was a child of the depression. In my urban neighborhood, people would put “good stuff”/reusable stuff by the side of the dumpster. In my new urban neighborhood, we have designated days for “Bulky Item Pickup” and people will put their stuff out early to allow for others to pick it. I’d say that only 25% of bulky items remain, and no one cares as long as you keep it clean.10/29/2019 at 8:54 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 434: Do You Have A Business Destiny? #69717Here’s my week: Oct. 21-27
Items Sold: 8 on Ebay and Mercari
Items in stores: 150 Ebay, 189 Poshmark
Total Sales: $ 175.xx before fees, after shipping
COG: Minimal…$5?
Items listed: 10, including several items with multiples
Highest priced item: $65 for an autographed book by astronaut Alan Shepard. I changed the category to something like space memorabilia instead of books, and the item that had been up for a couple months sold within a week!Highlights:
3 sales of pairs ice cleats
Sold 2 Garrison caps; I’m down to my last one!No new inventory. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I missed out on a couple auction closings last night. But the pipeline seems infinite. I should work on my existing money piles. They are getting more challenging to list.
I’m making a list of offers and price drops to do on Friday. I saw someone else recommending to do that to coincide with payday. It will also be the 1st of the month this time around.
I don’t think I’ve done my actual numbers in here:
1st Week of October: 27 items
3rd Week of October: 12 items
Last week: I’ve got a bag with three items right by the door. I have another box at work that I am hoping to get to the drop-off.
And I finally got a hold of the donation list for a local childcare center that specializes in learning through arts.Since my husband is in charge of the Thrift Store drop-off, (and he’s reliable with taking care of it in a timely manner), I’m going to go ahead and tally at 42 for the month so far.
First of all, @amatino, it’s freaking me out that there are four days left in the month and I haven’t reported anything.
Second of all, I love the outlook you are having with getting rid of stuff. Having confidence of what your remaining items are worth, and even getting some of them drafted is great!Looking back at my notes and weekly goals, I’m not sure that I can give an accurate total for listing. I feel that it’s around 55 items on eBay for the month so far. Some of that is cross-posting, but most are original.
I did a first pass of my jewelry pile last night. I sorted into “craft lot/donate,” “repairs needed,” and “ready to photograph and list.” Part of me wants to tackle that, but I think it makes more sense to work on the larger items that are taking up more space.
Wondering if anyone wants to chime in with recent cross-posting experience? I’m considering re-starting my Esty store, hoping to get more interest in my vintage (mid to late 19th century jewelry).
I’ve got jewelry listed on Poshmark, eBay and Mercari. I thought it would be doing better on eBay and Mercari with the free shipping, but it seems slower than my other categories.
Here’s the majority of my jewelry up for sale if you are interested in what I am hoping to sell:
https://poshmark.com/closet/chaoticgood?department=Women&category=JewelryOther facts about my possible plan and me as a seller:
The cross-posting would probably be done manually. I’d enroll in Etsy payments, which wasn’t available when I last sold on Etsy. I’m a part-time seller, and have decent photography skills. I’m more motivated to make money these days as we just had to purchase a new family car. -
