Killer stuff, Steven!
Some of my sales over the past 7 days:
Beatles Magical Mystery Tour LP (Early Reissue)
Introducing The Beatles LP
Beatles Yellow Submarine LP
Beatles Rubber Soul LP (Reissue)
On the Sunday post I mentioned the high end record collection I bought, including 38 Beatles LPs in awesome condition. I was nervous I overpaid ($750 for 51 total records), but have already sold 4 for $130. I’m well on my way.1950-57 Zippo Lighter Plain Blank
I always pick up Zippos as a BOLO. Even modern ones are good money. This one sold for $40 best offer, probably paid $3 for it.c1940s Wade & Butcher Straight Razor
Straight razors are also always on my BOLO list for the right price. This one is quite high end, but has some pretty significant damage. I’ve had it for a while and ended up taking a $80 best offer, paid no more than $5 for it. Once the guy [presumably] restores it, it should be worth over $300.1979 Star Wars Millennium Falcon Die Cast
I continue selling items for the vintage toy hoard a bought a while back. Paid about $10 for this piece, sold for $50.08/08/2017 at 11:44 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 322: Don’t Forget To Make Your Own Weekends #21542I have a MacBookPro and recently bought a new printer, a HP Envy 4520 all in one. It’s normally $100-$120, but I got it on sale at Best Buy for $60. It’s been a great little machine – wireless connectivity for all laptops as well as tablets & smart phones. Not the top of line by any means, but appropriate for my mid-seller tier needs.
08/08/2017 at 8:42 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 322: Don’t Forget To Make Your Own Weekends #21523@Jay, quick update – I listed all those albums on Sunday morning and yesterday three sold for $110. Still a long way to go to turn a profit, but I’m starting to feel better about the investment.

After the printed the first pressing with that Butcher cover, they simply put a sticker on the new cover over that Butcher cover. There are services around the web to “peel” that sticker. A properly peeled cover can be worth thousands.

Once I started seeing traction, I actually now use the “Apply Trending Rates” feature which is unique to categories and items with specific keywords – the more competitive the category, the higher the rates. Some are high, some are low, but in general I’ve been averaging 4%-7% overall.

I checked completed and there are a few $1000 mystery boxes sold. I could see spending a few bucks on a mystery, could be a fun game like a box lot at an auction… but $1000? Crazy.
08/07/2017 at 9:29 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 322: Don’t Forget To Make Your Own Weekends #21439It’s definitely a big play. I usually don’t spend this kind of money on LPs (51 for $750) – usually less than $3 each because that’s super low risk. But I’ve bought from this guy before, and his stuff has always been top notch. I’m a little nervous, but at the same time most of my other big plays/caches have paid off so I have to trust that I know what I’m doing every so often.
Here are some amazing examples:
Beatles Yesterday & Today – the first edition of this is the infamous “Butcher” banned cover. Instead of re-printing the covers, they just put the nice & tame trunk cover sticker over it. Also has A1/A3 matrix numbers (first pressing).
Beatles White Album – has everything you need to drive it up: embossed Beatles logo, stamped serial number, poster, photo inserts
Rolling Stones Some Girls – “banned” original cover in which they used celebrity likenesses without consent. Additionally, the cover & vinyl is in perfect shape.
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here – Always a good one to find, but this one also has the original hype sticker from the shrink wrap included.
Star Wars soundtrack – super tough to find with the original poster.

I was out of town Sat-Weds, changed my handling time, and things didn’t feel this busy. Good to do the numbers and see everything continuing to work out. Also felt good to get back to listing – life has gotten in the way for the past 3-4 weeks and I hadn’t listed. To your point in the show – #teamlargeinventory 🙂
Big weekend of a pick and listing. Bought a collection of high end records (first pressings of Beatles, near perfect copy of the banned Rolling Stones Some Girls album, Star Wars original soundtrack with the inserts & poster, etc) from a guy that I’ve bought from in the past – guy took immaculate care with his records. I paid up ($750), didn’t get them for cheap by any means, but there’s definitely some meat on the bone. Listed the lot for a combined $2535.
O dang, you’re right… they are snake heads. I looked super quickly and thought they were claws. Still doesn’t help identifying, but it was a great catch!

Some of my sales of note over the past 7 days:
Zenith Space Commander Six Hundred TV Remote Control
Second of two Space Commanders I found about a month ago. Another $30 sale, paid $2.Lot of 15 state Tobacco Pipe Pieces
Part of the big tobacco pipe lot I bought about 2 months ago. Scraped the bottom of the box for extra pieces, generic pipes, and others that I couldn’t sell separately and this lot sold for $120 best offer. Up to about $900 in sales from the $300 lot and still have a bunch listed.Ben Wade Free-Hand Pipe
From the same lot of above, but this was probably the nicest individual piece. Sold for $120 best offer on its own.Vintage Vassar Infant/Toddler Crew Neck Sweatshirt
Cute little item that I actually thought would sell for more. Paid less than $1 at a bag sale. Sold for $10 on clearance after having it for like 2 years.Week July 23-29, 2017

Promoted listings test: 10 sales, $339.35 (47.7% of total sales), $23.15 fees (6.8% of sales)A little late posting after a long weekend in Florida visiting some family. Listened to the show on the plane!
Another solid week for me. Consistently selling volume & getting a good average price. I’ve become a believer in the promoted listings. I was skeptical back in Q1 as I thought the good sales were just self gifting after the holidays, but now that the depths of summer have arrived my sales are even higher with the promoted listings on.
In addition to the promoted sales, I’ve been making a real effort at getting higher quality and higher dollar items to round out the bread & butter items.
Looking forward to getting back to the grind this weekend after being away 3 weekends in a row. Shooting for 40 items listed, but I’ll get at least 20 up.
07/27/2017 at 11:01 am in reply to: What Sold On eBay: Dictaphone, Weather gauge, Coleman cooler, Cobalt blue bowl, Transparency film, Leather Duffle bag #20914Some of my sales over since the last video:
c1960s Disneyland Railroad Oil Can
Thought this was so cool when I saw it. Disney always sells and I love finding stuff that is not mass produced or your standard souvenir. Paid up at $50, sold for $120.MCM Two Toned Checkered Marble Stone Dish
This thing was like 9lbs. So neat, looks like it was actually carved from separate stones and then glued together. This type of stone is usually indigenous to Mexico, although no markings to show it’s Mexican. Bought for $10, sold for $110 best offer.Cut Glass Gold Toned Hinged Trinket Box
Found at a hoarder sale. For the most part they were doing a “fill up a bag” sale… paid less than $1 for this, sold for $30.James Madison & John Adams Presidential Portrait Wall Plaques
Last day of a huge estate sale finds. Paid $1, sold for $30. Bread & butter baby.1926 Par Golf Card Game
At an auction over a year ago. I spotted it on a table full of board games. Lost the table to another bidder, but noticed it was a mom with a kid and asked if she was buying the games for the family. She was, so I offered her $5 just for this deck and she was more than happy to let them go. Sold for $85 best offer.1982-83 Masters of the Universe Evil Lyn
Part of the awesome 80s toy hoard I found a couple weeks ago. Piled up all the toys I wanted and they gave me a great price. Paid probably $5 for this, sold for $55.1982 Cross Century 10k Gold Filled Pen
Flea market find… one of those guys that just dumps everything on the table without rhyme or reason. Paid $3, sold for $30.07/25/2017 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 320: Spinning Plates, Keeping It All Going #20786It’s amazing the transformation that happens when there is real human tragedy. We get caught up in so many political/religious/racial/economic attacks and arguments everyday, that it’s hard to imagine anyone every coming together. Here in NY/NJ a few years back, many of my neighbors were devastated by Hurricane Sandy. My family & I were blessed to only lose power and have a semi-flooded basement, but many in my town even just down the street lost everything. The National Guard was in Hoboken rescuing people from second and third story windows by boat because their entire first floor was flooded and there was raw sewage and gasoline in the water. But people came together – the folks that didn’t lose power near the college (Stevens Institute of Technology is in Hoboken and has it’s own power grid that didn’t blow) were amazing running power strips out of their windows so we could charge our cell phones and call loved ones, they took the passwords off their wifi so we could let people know we were ok, they came out with hot coffee, restaurants that lost power cooked all of their perishable foods instead of throwing them out to serve to the displaced. It was a true showing of the human spirit.
@Doublythumbs – while this is a horrible situation, know that for the most part it’s only “stuff” that you lost. You still have the memories of those items. There will be plenty of stuff to replace what was lost and you’ll make it through.07/24/2017 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 320: Spinning Plates, Keeping It All Going #20712Seconding the Napa Valley organizers… I’ve never had a tough time selling them. I personally always chose the smaller versions simply because of my lack of storage space. I usually sell the 10-12 cassette, cd, and dvd versions for $20-$25 after basically getting them for free at yard sales.
