I just put that in the listing and then either send them a Paypal invoice or tell them my Paypal email address. You’re right, there’s no real shipping option in the FB Marketplace listings. I sell in private groups, local groups, and general marketplace. However, you can connect your Paypal to FB payments and send invoices through FB Messenger if you feel weird about giving out your email.
I always push for Paypal Goods & Services as payment so both parties are protected. I’ll add “shipping is $x or cash on pickup”. So far, no issues. Much like CL, FB is about flipping things quickly as opposed to for top dollar. Tend to put lower prices on older stock I’m trying to clear out – you know, the “losers” LOL
Rarely. 99.9% of my stuff can be shipped, so I still usually do that. Although I am open to meeting locally, much like CL.
Hey everyone! Haven’t posted in I don’t know how long, so have some extra numbers below – month of Oct, month of Nov, and then this past first week of Dec. Work, travel, holidays, etc got in the way from posting, but I have been listening & following along the whole time!
Oct Sales: 55 items, $2,587 gross, $47.04 avg, 28% COGS
Nov Sales: 68 items, $2,863 gross, $42.11 avg, 33% GOGS
Dec 1-7: 53 items, $1,729 gross, $32.63 avg, 30% COGSSales have really picked up second half of November and this first week of December. I think people realized that Thanksgiving was late this year and the buying season is severely condensed. I’ve also been aggressively selling in FB groups as a test, and 23 of my 53 sales this week were via FB (30 items via eBay are awesome on their own).

Got a good bit listed over the past week, 44 items in total including piecing out a box of calligraphy supplies I got at a garage sale a few weeks ago. Paid $30 for the box once I spotted ink, fountain pens, mechanical drafting pencils, and more. Threw out probably half of the contents after sorting through, but got some good listings out of it including: old inks, fountain pens & nibs, advertising pens, and these Koh-i-noor mechanical pencils. That last listing I grouped 3 pencils together for $100 and almost immediately someone in Canada offered me $50 for just one. Took it and will be relisting the other two. Should be able to 10x or more my money on the contents of that box.
Holy cow, free record boxes?!!? That’s going to literally save me hundreds! (600+ record sales this year).
Are you going to sell those photos as a lot or piece them out one by one? I myself always waffle on that… I usually end up selling in like groups or keep a family together.

Promoted listings test: 4 sales, $107.98 (11.7% of total sales), $5.15 fees (4.8% of sales)Pretty good week, low number of sales but a lot of quite high dollar pieces. Outside of my high dollar sale, also sold Dark Side of the Moon master recording for $110, Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers for $80, Alice in Chains promo for $120, and a Polaroid Land Camera for $80.
Of course with all of those high dollar sales my COGS were pretty high too, but still makin’ money.
Got a good bit listed throughout the week. Tried something new, listing 5-6 things a night after dinner instead of trying to do 20-30 things on Saturday. Worked out pretty well as I got some death boxes listed and also some really high dollar things up as well.
I work in the ad industry, so know just enough about the codes needed to be dangerous. Any “ad”, whether it be internal to your own site, third party served like the ones on this page, etc all need to have “tags” to count impressions, clicks, and a variety of other things in order to 1) be served, 2) be served to the correct person at the right time, 3) and of course to calculate charges.
So even something as simple as putting that “sponsored” label on a listing, needs to have a server tag somewhere in the code.
I just did a super basic scan of the code of a search result page, and while I don’t understand what most of the code is doing, there is a line item that includes “Sponsored” and “item has tag” in a command. That’s likely what an ad blocker would look for.
When I get home tonight I’ll check out the material. It was pretty cheap at WalMart, so it may be synthetic material.
Let’s connect later in the week about meeting up this weekend – yes, I’m only 15 mins or so from Secaucus so maybe we could go out picking together. Not sure where you’re from, but the best thing about this area is that there are no less than 20 estate sales within a half hour radius or even the weekly Meadowlands Flea which has a wide range of seller types.
How did that turn out? Did eBay resend an invoice to the buyer for the correct shipping amount or did you have to contact the buyer to get additional payment?
I actually use an old table cloth that I can throw in the wash anytime it gets dirty. Also helps when I need to store the drop cloth, just fold it up and put it in a drawer.

Haven’t posted for a few weeks (although I have been listening) after the Labor Day holiday, travelling for work, and other life getting in the way. Since I can’t remember the last time I posted, here are my numbers for the past 2 weeks. Good to be back!
Pretty solid numbers, on the uptick vs the summer… and I even had $500+ of sales yesterday (Sunday) which will hit next week’s post! Hopefully this is the beginning of holiday sales!
On top of the U2 Pop high sale, also sold an original Beach Boys Pet Sounds for $120, a mixed piece lot of tobacco pipes for $60 (which were all at the bottom of a box that I was going to toss out), a 1913 straight razor for $40, and a mix bag of pocket watch parts for $40 (from the same box as the pipe parts).
Only went to one random sale this week because it was convenient while I was running errands, found this awesome pile of WWII era photos of Hawaii – hoping most of them having hula girls help them sell for top dollar. Also, while cleaning out a “death box” of random things from lots, put this mixed lot of playing cards together that hopefully sells.
1) welcome to the party!
2) love the idea of resisting “losers” with a higher price but also free shipping. Might spend the evening doing that. Not only holiday sales for gifts, but also holiday decor sales. Just saying that if you have Halloween & Christmas decorations to list, do it now cause it will be too late very soon.
