@craig-rex – Customer feedback definitely keeps me going as well!! I’ve had a few recently on my packing of breakable items which is something I definitely focus on.
I paid $6 for two paintings this past summer. They both were basement kept and in dirty condition. They cleaned up nicely, although I still have to repair one. This other one ended up being a painter known for horse racing paintings. The buyer was a bit of a negotiator, but I was willing to bring the price down to $125.

Last year, I bought a set of Rorstrand cups and saucers. I found that the yellow ones were priced much higher than the rest. I sold one yellow cup and saucer for $140, and I have two more still listed. I also sold a set of two blue cups and saucers for $80.

At some point in the late 1980s/early 90s, I decided to buy my own ski equipment. It was quite an expense at the time, but it saved me in the long run compared to renting. However, it has been about a decade since I’ve skied, and I’m not sure I’d be excited with downhill now that I’m getting up there in age. In any case, the equipment these days is quite different, and I think I rented the last time I went. I’m pretty thrilled that I’ve cleared out this set of boots for $35. The rest of the skis are going into the auction – I just want them out of the house.

Love Com manga Vol. 1-13 English Missing Volume 6 & 12 book lot Lovely Complex
Man I have been kicking around this item for years now! Several years ago I picked up a huge collection of Manga from a yard sale for $200. I’ve made well over $2000 from everything. One in particular was a series called Nana that I sold for over $600! This series in particular I have one of the more valuable books – volume 13. It alone is worth over $100. I have fielded soooooo many requests to sell just book 13. Always someone wanting it for nothing.
I’ve been sending offers in the $200-300 range forever. Every time I tell myself I should just lower the BIN. Finally I got a $200 offer and just decided to part ways with it. They get a great deal and I’m done with it/get the space back. Win/win!

Adidas Youth Windbreaker Large Letters Blue & Yellow Size 7x Vintage
Now this is an OLD listing! This is a pre scavenger life listing for me! I’m talking 2015 my “flip flop summer” in between jobs (aptly named as I never wore anything other than flip flops all summer) My first ever photo booth – a coffee table in our school room. It’s a 10×12 room that had a 5 light chandelier style fixture. I put 75 watt LED daylight bulbs in that light to improve the lighting. Slapped a table cloth on the table, a $2 trifold piece of carboard behind the table and I was IN BUSINESS BABY!
Ah man, that was an AWESOME summer! The company was being spun off and they had to slash head count by 30% with 3 days notice. Got my red envelope on June 1. I was already on my way out the door and was already interviewing – it was like a gift! The engineering manager literally said “you seem to be taking this quite well”. I was legit smiling from ear to ear as he read off the details of the severance package. I was on payroll for 4 months with full benefits. I delayed the start of my new job until the end of August and we took a 2 week vacation to Orlando. I had never been able to take a 2 week vacation! Literally the BEST summer of my adult life.
That’s the summer my little hobby of buying & selling things branched out. BIG TIME. I walked into the new job with FU money and had the game plan that it would be my last day job. I’d keep building my side hustle and if the corporate axe came again, I’d just roll on into full time ebay. Ah, good times. I’m gonna get a little sampling of flip flop summer this year as I get 4 weeks paternity leave.

I have noticed changes here and there on eBay; mostly on the app. I found it particularly humorous that they lifted my selling limit. I can now list billions of dollars on eBay! I’ll be right on it …
Another humorous thing that happened; several weeks ago I was doing my weekly shopping at Trader Joe’s and saw a new canvas bag for $2.99 that was maybe half the size of their regular ones. I thought it was cute. I hesitated; thought about it; but I couldn’t justify a purchase. I really couldn’t see a use for it. Ends up it went viral or whatever and people were lining up to buy them. I could have resold it for $20 or more! Not a big deal really, but I was that close.
I’m still super busy at work due to our new contract, so I’m not listing much, and it shows. It is also a slow time of year for eBay, so the combination resulted in two weeks of low numbers.

This is the right answer. We never get precise with colors other than the basic base colors: red, green, blue, yellow, etc. Buyers will argue if you get too detailed about a color. We still struggle with calling a shirt black and someone say its a deep dark gray.
03/29/2021 at 4:50 am #87107In reply to: Help with listing fabric
I thought of a couple of other things — if someone is going to use the fabric for upholstery or curtains for tall windows, they might need quite a bit more than 2 yards. Once you figure out your price so you can do a BIN listing, I would list with a 2 yard minimum and give a by the yard price. I threw your ebay title into Google and it pulled up a number of similar items and it looks like the fabric is listed from $65 up till $150 per yard. You might as well start it high and put it on sale if it doesn’t sell.
I would also do my best to get the color of the fabric as close as you can to the original. eBay has some editing tools on the site when you post the images — if you can take in natural light that might help but definitely not florescent. You could also offer to send a sample to an interested buyer.
On something this pricey, I wonder if you could take it by Hancock Fabrics or similar and ask the ladies at the fabric counter if they can identify the fabric.
I have really been thinking about fabric today so hope this doesn’t seem like I am coming on too strong with my ideas — I just get excited about stuff and get going. Anyway, if I were writing the description, I would leave out the word “seems” — I might say “I believe the fabric is cotton or a cotton blend…” and the color is coral so you could say “The fabric is coral with a multicolor print of birds, flowers, leaves and branches — vivid blues, yellows and greens stand out.” Something like that.
One thing I read once was that you should check a print like this to see how it repeats because that could be important in matching up the design, esp. of upholstery. Not really sure how that works but you could probably google upholstery fabric matching seams.Hope that helps.

Hi Jim
Some of your photos of white clothing (e.g. Calvin Klein) has a yellow cast in the shadows- maybe there’s something yellow, like curtains or something, reflecting the colour.
Nice vase- seems to have a concave “dimple” on the base, which might be worth mentioning in the listing if it is a concave dimple. Might indicate to someone the maker- here in the UK Whitefriars did that (but it’s not a Whitefriars vase). I check the base on glassware as it seems to be a good indicator of quality, e.g. ground flat or with a signature. I’m wondering whether it’s Mdina, from Malta (probably wrong). They have a palette of blue and sand to represent the sea and, er, the beach.
03/18/2020 at 1:20 pm #75268Topic: I need a fabric consult
in forum Selling on eBayI have two approximately 5-yard bolts of Provencal fabric. The more I research them, the more I feel lost. Here is one of them:
This is the manufacturer’s mark on the selvage
https://imgur.com/MYEhj0xThese are the care instructions which I think mean (1) Machine wash at 60 degrees Celcius (2) no chlorine bleach (3) use a hot iron (like cotton setting I presume) (4) dry clean using petroleum solvents
https://imgur.com/0QjGSUoI have never listed fabric on eBay before and I do not want an unhappy buyer (nor to list at too high or too low a price).
At present my plan is to list this with the following title:
VTG Provencal Medium Weight Cotton Fabric BELDECOR Large Piece 48″ x 5 Yards Made in France
Price: 128.50 + shipping with make offer (expect ~$80)My questions: How do you tell if this is upholstery fabric or curtain fabric or tablecloth fabric? It is printed on one side, feels like cotton, not as heavy as blue jeans. (total piece weighs 5 lbs 10 oz) Here is a comparable sold on French eBay that is from the same manufacturer Beldecor which is listed as upholstery fabric: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/Morceau-tissu-ameublement-imprime-Beldecor-cueillette-vintage-1-14-m-x-0-65-m/293423752193?hash=item44516b2401:g:9pYAAOSwP8leHKRx
I measured from printed edge to printed edge to get 48″ width (selvages excluded). I will measure the actual length before listing, but for now, there is a “5Y” written on an edge and I am going with that. With regard to pricing, I did not find much help on Worthpoint or Terapeak. Here is a similar, fabric on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/146-x60-Les-Olivades-RAIOUN-Yellow-Print-French-Provencal-Fabric-Pierre-Deux/202823991456?hash=item2f394080a0:g:Fu0AAOSwPsBd0CT~
Please critique or offer any advice. I am a total noob and I do not want an unhappy customer. R or J, please remove if this is an inappropriate ask. Thanks in advance, Daniel.
08/30/2019 at 4:04 pm #67154@sonia I feel your pain irt the colors not being right. I’ve managed to get 3 different colors on one item in the same photo shoot, one shot after another! I looked at my screen in total disbelief!
I got a ding from eBay once for keyword spamming when I put “Black, NOT Blue” in my title, condition, and description, because I just gave up trying.
Oddly enough, some of the best results I get is when I put stuff in front of my (slightly yellow) wall, then use the White Balance color corrector on MS Picture Manager. Almost perfect, every time, with one click. I’ve learned that being slightly further away from my subject gives slightly better color, then I crop down. Adds to the editing time as I have to crop in, though. And bright sun is a total washout for me. My stuff is almost unusable.
@gregsandiego One hour on a photo? No way! I grumble if I have to spend an hour on a total batch of photos! LOL. I put my SD card into a reader, slide that into a USB port and Dropbox auto pulls all photos off it, then opens the Upload folder. I open the first photo in the batch and either use the Color Corrector or the Crop function (whichever takes my fancy first) and work my way through the entire batch correcting that one function. Then I return using the other function. Once I get back to the start, I change to Contrast/Brightening and work my way forward again. Usually one or 2 hits of contrast and possibly a mid-tone bright and I’m done. Choose the best 12 of each bunch and upload. Probably a dozen photos edited in an hour. If the background is black, I’m a lot faster. For some reason, my photos on a dark background always come out better.
@sonia and @mikemdc I use faux suede or faux leather. Got it from the thrift store. Cleans up with a lint roller, never creases, never gives me any trouble. I have an awesome navy/midnight blue that I use for dark backgrounds and it comes up blue some days, black on others, but it always looks terrific. Still haven’t found a white/pale, but I will! Works even better than felt.06/18/2019 at 8:28 am #63635In reply to: Does anyone recognize this artist?
Good morning:
Can’t make out the signature but do want to chime in before you expel a lot of time.I am assuming, after all we have talked about here on SL [which all is searchable], that you know you have an offset lithographic press printed reproduction and that the signature only exists on the original that was photographed and not on this “reproduction”. This signature is printed right along with the image.
If you use a magnifier of at least 10 power or higher and examine the print, you will see it was printed in the 4 color offset colors, most likely run on a 4 color, high speed printing press. You will most likely see that the only colors under magnification you will see will be yellow, red, blue and black. Then how are all the other colors appearing to you that you think you see. Well I have explained that whole process several times in the past about how the use of “halftone screens” [ben-day dots] break and image up into various size dots and varying closeness to each other to trick the mind and eye into seeing colors that are not there.
Then given these facts, being an offset repro, these presses run at about a minimum of 1,500 impressions per hours up to 7,000 plus sheets per hour. Given that most press set-up and breakdown take about two hours, most reproduction printers, after some market analysis will prefer to run a press for about 4 hours minimum. And if the print sells well, then they may do re-runs at later dates. So, there could easily be 20,000 plus repro’s of this out in the wild somewhere.
The paper that repros are usually done on are not archival quality, not even close. Most are commercial grade paper, and at 20,000 plus sheets per run, bought by the skid-pallet load. Most have a high acid content, are bleached white, have no- water mark and are around the 60 lb. sheet weight [about the thickness of 3 sheets of 20 lb. computer paper] and sometimes only 40 lbs. All have straight cut edges, which means it was cut using a guillotine paper cutter and many times cut two smaller sheets out of a larger sheet when originally bought for a better price. All the ink used in repros are non-archival and fade quickly, especially when exposed to direct sun with the red and yellow being the most susceptible.
If you have ever walked through antique malls or thrift store or even yard sales and seen framed prints that look mostly blueish / dark purplish in color? Well those are cheap repros, done in the 4-color offset process and the red and yellow has faded and left the blue [cyan] and black behind.
Now add to this the fact that the print does not have any pencil signed, titled or date information which would indicate a smaller print run and that the artist actually was present and at the least placed his pencil marks [his own name, a title for the work, and especially a date] with his own hand acknowledges his presence at the print shop for a part of the printing mfg. process.
I can tell repros usually from several feet away and with a loupe even more can be discovered.
Most [but not all] are not worth much more than the paper they are printed on. I very often will by framed prints, pull the backing off, pull out the print, throw it away and then use the frame for another work or one of my own works. I have a studio of about 50 or more frames right now that I have stripped out and dumped the cheap repro that was framed. The frame and glass can bring way more than the repro that is inside.
So, I am not trying to bash the print you have but want to help you start out with a proper approach to discovering what you have first before investing a lot of time research who the artist is. Even if it turns out to be a known artist, it is not an original of any kind and not a known fine art printing process that is recognized in fine art circles.
I am offering this just in case you start on doing a lot of research, to save you some time, I strongly suggest that you get a loupe, even a 6 power jewelers loupe or a 6 power linen tester, they can be found at Michaels, Dick Blick, or your local art supply store. Keep it with you and use it out in the field. Susan and I both carry ours with use all the time.
Good luck with finding who the artist is, but first I am suggesting you find out what you have and again no offense is intended or implied. Just trying to help.
Also, I suggest you search both the old SL Blog and the newer SL Forum using terms like reproductions, 4 color process art print, repro art prints, etc. and read up on a lot of information we have covered in the past.
Good luck and will watching to see what you find.

Inglewood- thank you for helping to provide a great example of how tricky correctly identifying cards can be.
The Fleer 1989 card I linked above uses white stock, is printed in the USA, is bright and appears to be glossy- or at least glossier than straight matte paper- but I do not have a ‘glossy index’ or sufficient data in my own brain to compare/understand relative glossiness when it comes to cards.
Retro Treasures- your link was very helpful to shed light on understanding glossy/tiffany cards. The 1989 card in question passed some tests, but not the star tests, which is apparently ok in some cases (in other words it can still be a tiffany card without passing the star test, if I understood that part correctly).
While researching this morning I happened upon one of several dedicated web pages that focused solely on card versions for this single player: https://www.beckett.com/news/ken-griffey-jr-rookie-cards/
Finally, I still don’t understand why some glossy cards have blue ink on the back, and mine has yellow ink. What I did see is that the valuable cards that have sold on eBay have blue ink.
Conclusion: this is likely a common card and therefore worth about $1, ungraded.
So yeaaah. I’m getting an idea of how ridiculous this process could get. I’m sure I’ll do a little more exploring, but I’ve also started to collect contact info for card buyers in my area who might want a large, nicely maintained, partially sorted collection of generally low-value baseball cards. I’m not anticipating much enthusiasm from local buyers.
Here are a couple photos of the card being discussed:

Hi all.
Sorry for the delayed response.
I really appreciate the feedback. It helps put my mind at ease a bit.I do find it funny how so many of us are self admitted perfectionists and “obsessive”. I wonder if that personality trait has something to do with drawing us to this eBay reselling thing.
Antarestar, the rain was just terrible. My mom even had some hail at her house, but thankfully no real damage. True though, it definitely washed the pollen away. A blessing sure enough.
Indysales, yes, I am using the pro mode on my Android to adjust white balance. I mentioned that even with that ability, it often still skips the actual color and jumps several shades too dark to several shades too light. I have one shirt that’s a fine yellow and blue “plaid”. The close up pictures look fine, but when I try to photograph the whole shirt, it looks like a solid gray no matter what I do. So frustrating!
Temudgin, yes, I agree completely with the diminishing returns principle. I just figure the more I can learn and the better I can get, the faster I’ll be able to do it with the results I’m hoping for.
Again, cheers all.

Topic: I need a fabric consult
I have two approximately 5-yard bolts of Provencal fabric.
