Had a unicorn week with 18 sales at an average sales price was $105.16. Truly an all-time week. And not a bad sell through for an 180ish item store!
Started the week with a fast sale of a signed copy of Neil Leifer’s Ballet in the Dirt for $135. Shipping an enormous 13 pound book was tedious! But it’s out for delivery today. Purchased one month ago for about $35 all in. This sold in less than a day. There were two active listings at $180 so I priced mine at $150 and got a quick offer for $135.
Sold my second signed gold shimmer 19 x 19 photo of MMA fighter Bo Nickal. First time was in December for $90, sold this one for $100 and I still have one more left. I’ll probably hold out for $110 on that one for the sake of the pattern. Building a box for this guy was a breeze since I’d done it once before. Paid $25/each back in July so I’ve doubled my initial investment by now. I have a small stack of Bo Nickal cards to send to the lucky buyer of my last giant photo. I got so caught up in building the box for this one that I forgot to give them the usual freebies.
The big score of the week were these two authenticated early 20th century photographs by famous baseball photographer Charles Conlon: Ed Konetchy for a best offer of $250 and George Burns (the New York Giants outfielder, not the actor) for my BIN of $399.99. Both sold in less than a day to the same friendly collector. Purchased in November for $20 (Konetchy) and $50 (Burns). I have done really well selling early 20th century authenticated photos in the last year, this is my fourth or fifth sale over $100 profit. Just need to find a way to acquire them in more volume. And list them right away! These both sold in less than 12 hours.
Finally, a nice sale resulting from my spring cleaning: a flat rate box of graded and encased sports cards for my BIN price of $399.99. I received a few lower offers but stayed patient and was rewarded with a reminder that sometimes it’s worth waiting for someone to click your BIN. I sorted out another lot of similar cards this weekend and will take pictures later today or tomorrow. My net profit is between $100 and $150 on these boxes, plus it reduces my clutter, so keeping that in mind it will be smart for me to keep one of these lots in my inventory as often as I can. In theory, I can send all of these cards to my consignment port and maybe double my money (or more?) by selling each card individually. I assume that’s what my buyers are doing. But who knows how long that will take, and it’s never guaranteed. Happy with this sale, and let’s hope for another one in next week’s thread.
What did you sell this week?

Back to the Future MCA 1994 McDonalds Sealed NIP Watermarked VHS
I missed the crazy 2021 VHS price bubble on this one. It didn’t last long and I was in the hospital when it happened. A real flash in the pan. I originally listed this for $200! Oh well, still an amazing sale for $25 considering it was a 25 cent VHS.

Now this is an OLD listing! This is a pre scavenger life listing for me! I’m talking 2015 my “flip flop summer” in between jobs (aptly named as I never wore anything other than flip flops all summer) My first ever photo booth – a coffee table in our school room. It’s a 10×12 room that had a 5 light chandelier style fixture. I put 75 watt LED daylight bulbs in that light to improve the lighting. Slapped a table cloth on the table, a $2 trifold piece of carboard behind the table and I was IN BUSINESS BABY!
Ah man, that was an AWESOME summer! The company was being spun off and they had to slash head count by 30% with 3 days notice. Got my red envelope on June 1. I was already on my way out the door and was already interviewing – it was like a gift! The engineering manager literally said “you seem to be taking this quite well”. I was legit smiling from ear to ear as he read off the details of the severance package. I was on payroll for 4 months with full benefits. I delayed the start of my new job until the end of August and we took a 2 week vacation to Orlando. I had never been able to take a 2 week vacation! Literally the BEST summer of my adult life.
That’s the summer my little hobby of buying & selling things branched out. BIG TIME. I walked into the new job with FU money and had the game plan that it would be my last day job. I’d keep building my side hustle and if the corporate axe came again, I’d just roll on into full time ebay. Ah, good times. I’m gonna get a little sampling of flip flop summer this year as I get 4 weeks paternity leave.

What a cool week of stories about your sales. I have always been curious what got you into reselling and now I know a lot more about it.
Your DIY photo booth is a real vibe. I’m glad you’ve upgraded, but I love the story of its construction!
Who is paying $55 for a vintage beeper these days? Was it a prop house? Or is there actually a collector’s market for this kind of stuff?
The COVID price bubbles were such an interesting phenomenon. The sports card market went wild for a brief time because of the stimulus checks and speculators becoming aware of the inefficiencies in the resale market. I will always look back fondly at that time period because it allowed me to build up my inventory to a point where I could resell full-time and make the money work.

I started selling arcade/pinball parts on eBay and FBMP in 2006. I funded an impressive collection of games and paid for vacations/extra stuff just like I do now.
I loved buying arcade parts lots on eBay and then parting them out.
my favorite item to buy cheap and part out was NFL blitz arcade control sets. I’d buy the guts of a machine for cheap. The controllers were special “49 way” optical controllers. I could sell each of the 4 joysticks to MAME cabinet builders for $50 a pop.
