Welcome Dianne, My wife is a native of Middle Tennessee and I worked there for six years. Sincere condolences on the loss of your mom.
Hi Vicky, Welcome to a wealth of information provided by Jay and Ryanne and all of the others here. I, too, am from Mississippi although I live in Oklahoma now. Where in MS are you?
03/04/2019 at 12:41 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 401: You Don’t Have To Quit Your Job To Sell On eBay #58066Terapeak is not free. I was paying $143.76 for an annual subscription before the change. After the change, they are charging me $12.00 per month as a separate charge in my eBay fees.
I live in Oklahoma, so I guess this means that after June 30, 2019, I won’t have to file sales tax returns in OK because eBay will collect and remit the sales tax. Their statement “prior to these dates, please
- continue to collect and remit
tax in these states” implies that they will remit the tax.
Thanks so much, T-Satt. Much appreciated!
T-Satt, To help me better understand this, could you (as an example) give me the formula that you use behind cell E6 in your spreadsheet? Thanks much for all your postings. They are very helpful.
almasty is correct about the amount of the deduction. The following is from the IRS web site (IRS Publication 526 (2017), Charitable Contributions):
“Inventory
If you contribute inventory (property you sell in the course of your business), the amount you can deduct is the smaller of its fair market value on the day you contributed it or its basis. The basis of contributed inventory is any cost incurred for the inventory in an earlier year that you would otherwise include in your opening inventory for the year of the contribution. You must remove the amount of your charitable contribution deduction from your opening inventory. It isn’t part of the cost of goods sold.If the cost of donated inventory isn’t included in your opening inventory, the inventory’s basis is zero and you can’t claim a charitable contribution deduction. Treat the inventory’s cost as you would ordinarily treat it under your method of accounting. For example, include the purchase price of inventory bought and donated in the same year in the cost of goods sold for that year.
A special rule applies to certain donations of food inventory. See Food Inventory , later.”
06/08/2018 at 10:51 am in reply to: Snipping on eBay as way of sourcing – only pros, no cons? #42000We used to snipe factory auto and truck repair manuals on eBay and send them to FBA. Mostly a slow dime method of operating, but there was a good ROI. Stopped doing this after FBA storage rates and fees went up so high.
Happy Birthday, Jay!! Thanks for all that you and Ryanne do for us.
03/22/2018 at 10:05 am in reply to: Anyone else have a problem using eBay shipping supplies coupon? #35848Thanks for the suggestion. No matter what I tried, I could not get the order to go thru on my PC. Then I tried placing it on my iPad and it worked!
It wasn’t much of a test, but I tried a couple of times to auction a junk drawer lot of miscellaneous items with no connection to each other. None of the items was actually junk. They were sellable individually but they were things that would definitely be long tail. I had a extremely low starting price and asked for no more in shipping than my actual cost would have been. I did not receive any bids and concluded that listing a junk lot was not useful to me. Of course, your experience may be different.
Terapeak shows a Showmaster Model 1000 Super 8 (Works) sold in September 2017 for $47.00 plus $22.00 shipping. Also a 150W projector lamp for Model 1000 and other Showmasters sold in March 2017 for $39.99 plus $4.00 shipping.
When I started selling vintage ads, I also bought an ad from one of the large sellers. They sent the ad in a plastic sleeve with a thin piece of cardboard. Ads are slow sellers. You can list and list and list, and get a few sales. I decided that altho the markup was great, it wasn’t worth the time.
Packaging: Because I shrink wrap the books we sell if I were still selling ads today, I would shrink wrap the ad with one piece of cardboard inside the shrink wrap.
When I was selling old original photos, I shipped them in a sandwich between two pieces of cardboard with one piece of CB turned so the fluting was vertical and the other piece turned so that it was horizontal. A buyer happily told me once that his postman tried and tried to bend the package, but was unable to do so. Please let us know how the ad sales go.
We also didn’t get it today.
We got it today too. Thanks Ryanne!
