Hmm. I am going to have to think carefully about my use of Smart Post. I initially thought of it like Media Mail, but at least you can buy insurance for Media Mail. It doesn’t look like anyone insures Smart Post.
The one good thing is, if I *do* use SmartPost, I no longer feel obligated to bring it to FedEx. I read somewhere that SmartPost had to be handed to FedEx, otherwise they wouldn’t honor insurance claims. I’ll save myself a trip, and drop off everything at the post office!
I did this once, but on a sale via a facebook group. I refunded everyone’s money, and the two buyers talked and decided they wanted to keep the item they received.
Expensive lesson learned. I double check everything before it goes out the door now.
I’m in, but it’s sort of unfair, because next week is the last auction until March in my area! :/ One of the local thrift stores is closing down in January, (owners are retiring). I am going to stop by tomorrow to find out when their last day will be.
After that, I guess I’ll be forced to list death piles until early March. 🙂

I like how they put right up top “Claims for damage are only potentially valid if the tracking status of your package states, “Damaged, unable to deliver shipment – Please contact shipper/merchant for details.”. I have never seen a status like that on any package delivered, by any of the shippers.
Do any of the 3rd party insurance companies provide insurance for SmartPost?
1) Get my filing/inventory system sorted out. Up until now, I was using a “throw all the receipts in a box and then panic after January 1” method. Some obvious improvement to be made there.
2) Death piles. I thought I could get it all listed by end of December, but I got a cold, which derailed my plans. Late January/Early February is more likely now.
3) Branch out into new areas for sourcing. There is a weigh-and-pay place about an hour from here, and a few other auction houses within an hour. I am only allowing myself to do this once the death piles are handled.
No anchor store. And honestly? I just dont have it in me to call again. It is what it is. I had my tantrum over it, and now I am (mostly) over it. 😉
Ebay will not expect you to reship on your dime, nor will Paypal. Invoicing the buyer for reshipment is correct. I had a buyer get nasty with me about reshipment once. Called ebay, and they said the buyer could choose refund minus ebay fees and shipping, or paying to reship. I called Paypal, and they said the same thing.
Does anyone know if Paypal will combine total receipts from 2 accounts, to generate the 1099? I have a “business” paypal account and a “personal” account. I received a small amount of money on the “personal” account. It isn’t enough to generate a 1099 on it’s own, though.
My siblings and I no longer exchange gifts. We just get something for each others kids. The adults get “consumable” gifts of either food or tickets to concerts.
I did send everyone some fruit and pecans from my trees.
We do give second hand gifts to my son and mother in law. Last year, she really wanted an old Rival crockpot. I found one for $5, and she was so happy that she cried. My uncle gave my son some money to get a toy, and we are going to order a vintage game that I had as a kid, (one that I actually stole from my uncle!). I cant wait to play some Pivot Pool with my kiddo! 🙂
It is crazy!
One of the senior clerks was able to go into a screen on their internal network, enter the tracking number, and then bring up a google earth satelite map, with a pin for the last scanned location and gps coordinates. They can print out the pages, for proof of location. It was very cool and kind of creepy, too. It totally blew apart my vision of the post office as old-timey and not tech-savy.
After the holidays, I will ask the clerk more about it.
